the central heating which for the last fortnight has steadfastly refused to work,

came on this morning without any issue when kerry turned it on...... (she has apparently been fiddling with the wall thermostat?)

so, hot water and a warm house.

PRICELESS!

and anyone who says how good the "good old days" were before central heating,

is talking SHIT!!

as a child I would sleep with my clothes over my feet , to keep my feet warm and warm up the clothes , the window would be frozen on the inside of the glass ....

luxury!

we'd get dressed while still in bed cos it'd be so damn  cold in the bedroom in the morning.

and when we used to stop at the grand parents, me grandma would use 4 lowcocks lemonade bottles filled with very hot water to warm the bed up, so we had a "person" shaped bit of warm in it when we went to bed....

and you tell the kids of today that, and they won't believe you

and making the coal fire at night , so you had a fire to light in the morning !!!!

My mum tells me this. She also said the pre fab was warmer than the brand new council house they moved into in 1950. And to be fair I often had frozen water on the inside of the Georgian window panes as a child of the 70s.

I stayed in an old 1900s tenement flat when I was a student - very similar to what I’ve just bought as a BTL except it had single glazing and no insulation

It had central heating - that didn’t stop it freezing on the inside of the windows and being BASTARD FREEZING constantly.

My flat although very similar in construction is the polar opposite - roasting warm within half an hour of turning the heating on and it keeps the heat too

Eva wants to stay up until bastard midnight to watch the fireworks. Amys going out, I probably won't last until midnight. Is it bad of me to plan to change the clock to 11.55 at about 8pm, put last year's fireworks on the telly, hooray new year etc and she be in bed by half 8?

Part of me thinks it's a cunning plan, half of me thinks it's mean, plus keeping her up till midnight might get me a lie in tomorrow...

Sam...

Eva is a proto-woman.  She is already cleverer than you...  :D

Bah in the good old days you would have a decent fire in and a couple of the serving wenches warming the beds for you

Lolololol.

Lol.

This. Never. Works.

You will be knackered and she'll be up as normal.

Absolutely this.

A pair of new leaders took over the Beaver colony Mrs_Pillock had been running for "a few months" (three years). They planned a sleepover in the hut, with a plan that included "lights out" at 8.30pm, because "7 year olds normally go to bed about then".

YEAHRIGHT. Most of them gave in about 1.30am, one was still awake and trying to wake others up at 3am.

7am, a dozen pairs of eyes spring open and they start creating havoc again, like they just reset back to full health with a cheat code.

Kids keep telling me the house is cold. I'm quite warm blooded, it was the end of November before I gave in and put long trousers on, so I tell them to naff off.

The batteries in the thermostat died on Thursday night. Because it's all Smart, then I actually got an email telling me this, but because I'm Not Smart I didn't read my emails. So Friday morning, it's a little chilly even by my standards because the heating hasn't kicked in. Boosted the heating, then found some AAs for the thermostat which fired up and told me it was 10.6 degrees in the house. The bathroom is the old coalhouse so usually a few degrees colder too....

As a result of this, I went to find out more about the "PolyStation 3" which turns out to be an actual cheap Chinese knockoff of the PS3, I ended finding a Youtube video of a bloke who sounds almost exactly like how an Autoshiter would review thier own car;

PolyStation 3:

Here, 'Ashens' reviews the AirPhone number 4, a knockoff iPhone 4:

Ashens is great. Has written actual books on retro games, but his YouTube channel and that brown sofa is proper LOLsome. He reviews loads of Poundland food and gizmos, and even tries some wartime rations to see if they've survived.

Spend hours a day watching Ashens. He also sometimes does crossovers with Big Clive for electrical stuff.

I've just rediscovered Barryboys. Their usual fare is quite entertaining for a while, but the highlight so far has to be this:
