What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

My ex who I lived with for several years was a veggie so I used to eat mainly veggie food. I must admit, I still much prefer veggie lasagne to lasagne with meat in it.Don't like pork pies. But, generally speaking, meat rules.

Proper pork pies are manna from heaven.

Hmmm. I'm still thinking about that one....Anyhow. What makes me smile today is people who really know their shit.Just been out and dealt with two really good businesses. First was a one man band who is an ex CAA certified welder who has stuck some aluminium bits together for me in a really good fashion. The other is a company that does automotive hoses and fittings and have no problem with someone coming up to the trade counter with odd combinations of parts that need to fit together. :D

I flippin' love meat, I do. Weird meat especially. Tongue is one of my favourites, my local butcher does it beautifully and you get the odd little bit of tongueskin with the tastebuds on. Mmmmmm. Best bit.

Haslet is also good, although I understand they make that by sweeping up at the end of a hard day at the Meat And Wood Shavings Factory, and compressing the contents of the dustpan. Still tastes nice.

The skin of a freshly cooked chicken, or some nice crackling.

Scotch Eggs - a bonus, since I like eggs but these have meat around them! Genius invention. More things should be wrapped in meat, the more dubious the origin the better. And I'm fully aware of how they mechanically recover meat, but it still tastes good[/i]. Even McDonalds do a lovely Sausage and Cheese Bagel which really sets you up for the day (in a greasy way).

Per previously being pleased with the installation of a working cassette deck, actually driving around with one makes me grin, no longer do I have to put up with silence. The other cars have LW/MW non-tape radios which are good enough for me not to bother, but to go straight from silence to a full radio cassette is quite a jump.

I've got one of those tape converter things that I can run a Minidisc into for a double "redundant format" combo, but to be honest I don't use it that much. I prefer to mess around with actual tapes, I love all the fast forwarding and rewinding. It's just a featureless stock 1DIN Daihatsu radio but it sounds good enough, in terms of audio quality tapes are great I reckon.

Whilst I can, I might temporarily refit my favourite tape deck back from when I was using the Mira a few years ago:

It's got TV, I used to enjoy driving around with the BBC news on. Or Pokemon.

I'm sad to see the cassette format go, that and the killing off of the VCR has killed off 'home recording' as it was known. I have tapes in the car, I like the fact that it forces you to listen to the whole side, you can't 'skip' to the next track.

A friend of mine let slip the other day that she locked herself INSIDE her car last week. She got in the back with the child lock on and couldn't get out... Seriously.

That was always an amazing thing I found with the Wartburg! Owing to the design of the locks (you had to lock both front doors from the outside) it was quite easy to lock yourself INSIDE the car with the keys on the OUTSIDE. I always saw this as a metaphor for the life of the citizens of the country where it was built.... Bit deep that one!

Just got a 1983 Ford Brochure through the post, has both the Sierra Base ( the Saloon, if were specific here), the description of which only features the word generous once, and thats to describe the front door bins! And it also has the Granada Diesel Taxi in it. 69bhp from a 2.5 litre engine! Mad.

You should see the accessories you could buy to go with the all new sierra as well, here have a look:

Write a note on sierra paper with your sierra pen bragging about your new sierra............

Its got to be said, the Sierra was space age looking when it first came out. I thought it was a bit to modern looking in hatchback format, so preferred the estate.

Cats for Gold, just awesome!Wifes gone out, kids are asleep, just me and the cats watching "The Battle of Britain" on DVD. When this is finished I shall be making a cup of tea and a ham roll and putting on an old Peter Sellers movie. Little things like this make me smile A LOT!

I know that episode well. Always find it a little bizarre! Probably feel the same if Mitchell and Webb turned up in an episode of The Bill....

Watching the Sweeney episode tonight with Morecambe and Wise in it, whilst eating welshcakes and drinking bottles of Reverend James with whisky chasers.

ditto, except with a bottle of old speckled hen and a nice beef burger (or three). Comedy episodes of The Sweeney are really weird, it just turned into a big farce at the end. not impressed.

this mad me smile tonight:

No apologies for more pictures of one of our kittens. Trying to persuade SWMBO to let us keep this one but she's not having it :(

Emily and Fluff look lovely! Pity you're not closer to my neck of the woods; I'd home one of them for you!

Ahh, should have explained sorry: Emily/Fluff are one and the same, can't decide what's the best name for her between us!

Edit: ah, what the heck, here's the others...!

Still difficult to tell them apart, aside from Fluff. Two others have slightly longer hair though but all are almost exactly the same colour wise in that they're all black with a hint of tabby.

Two or three managed to chew through my internet cable the other night and most like climbing on the rabbits cages to wind them up.

Completely and utterly fearless, even our oldest cat (who's hard as nails) doesn't phaze them one bit!

We named our cat "Oedipus"! Not original, as we found it in a book. Big and black... "e de pus" dat lives is da house..... Oops!Is the cat Irish? If he or she were likely to be a big cat, perhaps you could call it "Magnum" (as in: Magnum Opus.... Magnum O'Pus.....!)
