Doctormop Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 When I worked (briefly) for Royal Mail in 2003 Escort vans were being phased out and Peugeot Partners and Astra type blobs were state of the art, The Escorts were considered Postman proof; no amount of abuse seemed to kill them, fifth gear was often lost bits dropped off, things leaked etc but they never rolled over and died unlike many of their newer stablemates, one guy on a rural round hit a rock on someone's driveway, put a hole in the sump but thought nothing of it completed his round and drove back having deposited around 5 litres of Duckhams finest all over major and minor roads (He was not a biker and didn't think about them much) and the ruddy van still survived.Say what you want about them but as a straightforward working vehicle they impressed me no end. paulplom Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 I had an ex royal mail '99 one as my 1st plumbing van. It failed it's second mot at five years old on crusty cills and brake pipes. I watched him poke a hole in the passenger one with his pointy thing. I couldn't believe it. Also the slowest vehicle I've ever owned/driven.
D Spares & Tyres Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Mine was great No servicing and got driven foot to the floor everywhere. Frequently overloaded and like bub says, it wasn't any slower. Even in its death throws it got me home from wales doing 30mpg on engine oil with a James Bond style smokescreen Future scene tax for sure. If its not rotten its worth mothballing. Tickman Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 The one I had was clearly shit in comparison to all the ones you lot had. I would get to a particular hill on the A9 and start at the bottom at 80 and by the top I would be doing 60 at best. Even the Morris Minor could do better on that hill. Not the ideal vehicle to be doing at least 30,000 miles a year in and one of the main reasons I left that job. Laseraligningfoofooflanges 1
Lacquer Peel Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 The A9 southbound near Tomatin killed my Escort 1.8D. Or was it the driver with his foot to the floor oblivious to smoke pouring out of the exhaust and a rising coolant temperature?
purplebargeken Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 saw an absolutely mint one of these last week. Slightly scene, but only ever so slightly. Was very impressed by it.
Tamworthbay Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 How much would you be looking for on the Puma Billy? I may know someone who could be interested, and what are the arches like?
