I was kindly offered a free tow bar set up for the Maestro, so I went to collect it today.

This is what the m25 did to it:

post-17396-0-65037000-1465077662_thumb.jpg

At journey's end (did I mention I went from Halifax to Portsmouth 255 miles) the fan was tested and found to be a bit stiff so was cooling on air flow only.  The fuse had blown for the fan too.

Refilled 3 litres of water and was golden until I got home and it overheated again just as I parked up.

To add insult to injury the center console had got warm and melted my wispa.

Apart from that, and spilling coffee in the passenger footwell it was a trouble free trip of 510 miles!

Thanks to 109landys3 for the towbar and bits and diagnosis, nice to meet you.

Day. Fucking. Ruined.

If it wasn't for that it would have been a perfect shite day out!

Me & Supernaut went down to Dundee for a big car meet with a few friends, which as expected turned out to be a bunch of 'Yoof' & Barrys (The meet, not our mates...). Was a few cars of interest such as a  MG ZT260, Ratty looking '69 Mercury Cougar with a organismic sound, A Ford Fairlane 500, One of the crazy import spec Suzuki Wagon RR's as well as a T-reg Mondeo saloon! (Which was't part of the event, just parked up)

But the trip was an excuse to test the Lexus in it's "Cross-Continent' spec. CB radio & Cool box plugged in, boot full of crap as well as a full 20Ltr Jerry can, etc. As expected handled it like it was nothing...

MlANQlz.jpg

If you look carefully, you can just see the CB radio antennas on the cars. Supernaut went for the crazy 1.5 meter sized one...

So it's safe to say, the Lexus will just eat up the miles to Shitefest as if it were nothing. :)

Likewise, always nice to meet and help another shiter.

Good luck on sourcing a fan, there are a couple of generic ones on eBay for around £20 that should do the trick. The offer still stands to fit it at ShiteFest if you get stuck!

Does anyone know the best way to get a bit of fuel out of the meriva? I want to test my petrol mower but too poor to go a d buy a fuel can and pez... Was hoping to get a bit out of the meriva into a pop bottle...

Stupid idea or doable? Where would be best to remove a pipe? Or should I give up on the idea now?

Posted

beko, various things will end up covered in petrol, but if desperate I'd probably try one of the pipes on/near the fuel filter.

Posted

I found that and poked it, but the clip seems to bend a bit so I left it alone through fear of it doing a vauxhall... Ill get a fuel can tomorrow from asda!

1 bucket

1 bit of garden hose about 5 feet long.

1 bit of garden hose about 2 feet long

1 rag.

Bucket on the floor below level of fuel in the tank.

Shove the long hose down the filler. It wont slip in easily. Blow down it, if you hear bubbles the end is submerged.

Put the second hose into the filler neck too, only a few inches down.

Use the cloth to seal up around the two hoses.

Blow hard down the short hose. This pressurises the tank and will force some fuel up the long hose into the bucket.

If the relative heights of the fuel and bcket are ok and you blow hard enough to get a good initial flow it should continue to syphon fuel into the bucket without any further action on your part.

Don't modern fuel tanks have anti-syphon devices fitted?

Or can you still get past them??

I only ask - as I need to do something similar with my 190e - as it has a full tank in it atm.

Posted

I didn't bother trying to siphon it because of anti siphon stuff.

I tried to get it to run with the 'fuel' in it's tank but it only smells vaguley of petrol, so I presume not flammable enough. Spark plug looks clean. I could pop to the local asda but will be annoyed if they havent got a fuel can, and I presume it's frowned upon to fill a mower up with it sat on the back seat of the car?

I can swing past a massive asda in the morning before work but I want some fuel NOW, but in the laziest possible way...

Dunno, it works for me. Last week I syphoned a load of fuel out of the derelicts lying around the farm that way. The scenic had a little plastic fin in the fuel filler neck but 4 seconds manipulation got the hose past it no problem.

Posted

Id need pipe too, all I have is vacuum cleaner hose or the fish tank siphon

I will never syphon without a clear hose now . Petrol isn't a nice taste !

Lots to do, car-wise.

The XM stuff needs sorting out prior to the monster-in-law's gaff going on the market, my garage needs sorting out to make room for it, the Dyane needs prepping for MOT if it's ever to make it to SF16, etc. etc. etc.  So, obviously, I've just fitted new pressed-tin number plates to the 205...

Looks good, though.

Bloke round the corner is breaking a mk2 mondeo for the 2 litre silvertop - he is putting it in his Mk4 Fiesta. Would have been rude not to get a few odds and ends for my car as it is local.....

Got board, decided to change the front pads on the Lexus. Job was a doddle thanks to caliper design, so took it for a test run round the block a few times. Once back, went to check my wheel nuts again & brakes felt a bit hot, decided to touch the disc....they were indeed hot.

Do I win some sort of Darwin award?

There was indeed. There was a good collection of foreigners too which is always nice to see- Belgium, Dutch, Germans, ( Irish!). Possibly French, but I don't recall seeing the car, just heard the language.

Very nice weekend. Lots of nice beer on tap from langham's brewery in pet worth. Clear blue skies today as well. The food tasting was excellent ( each local group sets out a table with local specialties) . Our local group did a taste of Southall with fresh pakoras and almond cakes. Next door we had a German club who seemed to be offering cows head pate ( Tete de veau), pumpernickel and green listerine. The listerine at 40% was taking the polish off the tables anyway!

Were the panel gaps on Bijoux always that shonky?  I've never seen one in the plastic before.

Posted

Er yes. They've never appealed to me to be fair, but Citroen uk and early fibre glass skills weren't a match made in heaven. I think it was heavier than a 2cv too. But rarity wise, it's one of these or a Bugatti Royale! Which do you think costs £6million?

I thought it was an AfriCar when I saw the pic.

I'm not sure what the difference is really. This one had plywood panels though.
