Anyone interested in the Visa before it goes on ebay? I'm waiting for a new front numberplate to arrive before I take a proper set of photos but you all know what it looks like. Nice unmolested car with very low miles, some history, clean and tidy and ready to go. Looking for £1500.

Very tempted... Can't now find original thread if you can point me in right direction. Where are you located?

Would like to get some double chevron action back in my life, and 2CVs and Amis now beyond reach.

This is the only pic I have got of the MGF no reg number no other info.

If you don't want it I'm keen to give a MGF a go!

Sounds ok to me.

If the springs were shorter then they could fall out of place when the suspension is unloaded over bumps etc. What they normally seem to do is one tall/thin coil at the end to take up the gap, the weight of the car is enough to flatten that & get to the stiffer bit.

Sounds about right. Old Man is pretty thick, he must think that ride height and spring height are related, since the springs taken off the rear (from a FWD A4) were way longer than the -40mm springs, but that makes sense as they were completely wrong for the car and were only on there as a previous owner was a cheapskate.

Got the tyre fitted to the Saab wheel this morning, then got the wheel back on the car this evening.  Much happier now that it isn't running on a bicycle tyre on the back any more.  I also swapped out the hopeless LED sidelight bulbs for some proper old fashioned filament bulbs, which have improved things no end.  It's now been well over a week since the car last went into limp mode too, so my cunning* fix appears to have worked.  I actually fixorated a modern diesel.  I know, I'm scared too.  :?

After a few more miles the new tyres I had fitted have quietened down nicely and are feeling a bit less... waxy?... I can't think of a better word to describe how they felt initially.  I'll need to do the back ones soon though, I've definitely now got more grip at the front than the back, hardly surprising since I've got old mismatched tyres on the back end at the moment.

you are not imagining it there is a "release agent" used which has to wear off and new tyres can feel absolutely shit, which is disappointing

Tomorrow I will use the term "crumblybum steamypants" in everyday conversation.

Let us know how it goes.

Collecting this eBay win on Thursday - 16-foot Ifor tilt-bed trailer.  Bought because I was actually looking for a 10ft flat bed.  But this one has the big benefit of costing no more, but being able to ferry around shite - even dead shite thanks to the winch and big ramp. Looks like a good seller and a nice trailer, one owner, new tyres.

Once I have it, I'll be happy to offer a ride for anyone with dismal cars requiring moving in and around Fens/East Anglia for petrol money.

Suspicions about Concerto rear lights being fully interchangable with R8 ones proved true in practice.  Well pleased, sorting through some pictures while I have my lunch so I can illustrate that over on the project thread.

Applause has two items of note that needed attending for tomorrow's MoT, the first being the crusty bit of arch which has now been temporarily repaired with a metal patch bonded in (it will be redone properly after the test).  The other item is the handbrake being weak which Chompy is hoping is just a case of adjusting it.  Then it goes in and we'll see what happens.

Close, 3.1 Essex. Spent the past year rebuilding it after the timing gear went.

I went to work like a total square today, can't wait to get home and see if I can get it running though.

Changed the last relay in the starter system this morning in the hopes that it would cure its occasional 'non start'. It didn't! Went to a garage I know who will blow my tyres up for me, turned it off and the fucker wouldn't re-start.

So, annoyed I booked it straight in with them to strip and clean the starter... they were going to call me with a date and time when they would do it. Of course, they haven't....

So I rang Specialist Cars and they are going to come and collect it when they can, not such good times for them at the mo as the big white chief has peritonitis! Appendix burst, hospital, not great. Also, the Granma of the family is in the same hospital dying slowly. I told them to take their time and do it as and when. I felt guilty for ringing them!

My replacement front plate arrived today from DMB, it only took a couple of days too. I'm really impressed with it. I'll post some proper photos in the thread in a few days once I've fitted it, cleaned the bumpers and finished sorting the rear sills.

Even better, I thought they were Mk3 headlights. Guess not.

I have 4 cars here and was under firm, full on... eyes locking....I effing mean it stare, instruction to lower the number by one, I had been keeping custody of a C1 Citroen for a mate and sold it for him last week, couple came down for it in a focus that was making a funny noise and they'd spent loads on so wanted rid...it would have been rude not to wouldn't it  :-D  said 66k  Focus came with a shed load of bills and turned out to be a little honey that just needed a new tensioner pulley and cleaning to my exacting standards

It's been advertised and will bring a reasonable profit, had a chat with a nice chap earlier about it ... he asks do I want a Skoda Fabia with MOT , 4 new tyres and a recent clutch as part ex ...for beer money....what could I say.

Has anyone local got a spare room ? Cavcraft? Newpod? Taxipaul?

My 205 auto (ref OMGHGF) is still in the garage.  It is being done at staff rates because my son works at the main dealer in question, so priority is given to full rate customers. I am being patient and hope that it will be ready by the end of the month.  Meanwhile, my Stellar has been clocking up the miles and has developed an oil leak.  It looks to me like the cylinder head gasket......... Bum.  It failed with exactly similar oil leakage (at first) about 4 years ago. I've had another go at cosmetically improving its rusty rear wheel arches.  Rust was rubbed down and wire brushed then zinc primed and filled.  Various attempts were made to find a reasonable colour match.  Ford Champagne Gold Metallic was too golden, so I tried Vauxhall White Gold Metallic but it looked yellow.  Eventually  I coughed up £14-75 for an aerosol mixed at Halfords from the colour code.  The result is strange.  In direct sunlight it looks like a very good match.  In any other lighting conditions it looks much darker.  Oh well.  From 10 metres it looks tidier than it did before.

The first few years of V6 Mk3 Capris had Essex power, I think they got the Cologne in 1981.

Out little girl hulked the laptop when we made the mistake of turning our back on her for 1.7 seconds. It burst the hing mounting inside and snapped the cable off the power intake.

It's not that old so I made an attempt to fix it. And yes the 2 top "speed holes" is where I drilled the holes in the wrong place the first time.

I'm not 100% convinced it's not going to burst into flames

Go for it. K series FTW!

Misery loves company

There's a buyer* for every shit old car.

no point in a collection thread for this, as it was delivered from the bodyshop's yard of tat next door to my place of work.

bought by myself sight unseen for use as a field banger - but saved for now :)

1.8 rover 75 club se

plus points:

1 months mot as bought

13 months mot with no advisories after i sent it for a speculative test!

quite tidy all round

3 months as a demo car and then 1 private owner 'till it hit the trade.

fsh from local rover/mg garage

negative points:

beige interior - i am a fabricator so end up filthy nearly all the time :?

full (1-1/2" deep) of water in boot and all footwells

smells a bit mouldy

low rev misfire/hesitation

abs playing up at first then abs and airbag/srs lights on all the time (within 10 miles of the mot lol)

super fresh clean oil and a rad full of kseal indicates a potential reason for the tradein

only pics i have for now - water level was so high the only simple solution was to drill holes in all the low points to let it out - took 20 minutes for the flow to stop!

now driving around with heater on full blast to help dry out the carpets

seat covers bought to protect the interior

missfire fixed with £30! of platinum plugs

updates as and when (it assplodes :-P )

don't have a dehumidifier lol

apart from very hot feet my solution seems to be working  :D

With that much water i'd expect an airbag light to be on, side crash sensors tend to suffer badly on 75's when they get wet, ace shitter though !!

New track-rod ends, tracking redone and s/h abs pump is being fitted tomorrow by my local friendly garage.

Hopefully the track-rod ends will fix the steering wheel wobble. I'm also hoping that a 2.0dci abs pump (with ESP) will also work together with the rest of the car, even though it's a v6.
