Tonight my driveway looks like this.

I have to do about 200 miles in the Aygo tomorrow. This saddens me because it has the most infuriating gearbox on the planet. I shall be extremely pleased to bring one of the 406s home tomorrow night.

Is that one of those quickshit type boxes? Or even CVT?

Can't imagine a slush box would work very well with their power output.

3-pot petrol with 5-speed sneezymatic automated manual thing. It's fucking hopeless. I've driven 12 speed automated manual coaches which are less confused on roundabouts, and the throttle response is better too

I'd rather stick my face into a lawn mover.

Why on Earth did you not buy anything older?

First, a big thanks to all those making suggestions as to what might be wrong with my Renner (apart from it being properly ugly, er and built with electrical bits from gooner IIs, but I digress...)

It's definitely running differently, with its new plugs and air filter, though I couldn't describe the idle as smooth as silk, but there is a dose of crud-be-gone still working its way through.

Anyway, after a run out to meet up with some capital shiters, I put the code reader on and I think I might be onto something, unless there is an acceptable tolerance for the crankshaft sensor output - according to it, the engine was doing 234 rpm when it was most very definitely not running at all

Perhaps I'll read the ENGINE(RPM) value again tomorrow with the engine running and see if it is able to sense anything other than this steady background reading.

To my distinctly novice eyes, the other readings seemed reasonable, but I'll update again tomorrow

My Laguna reports 234rpm when off via OBD as well - all scanners from snap-on to chinese knockoff and also live terminal queries report the same thing. It's accurate when running though, so it's probably a bug feature.

I was born in 1986.

I cant say I have looked properly but I haven't spotted the context of this. Is it just a proud statement or am I missing something. I was born in 1976 if thats any help.

Are we playing Numberwang?

I also removed that pretentious 'V8' badge. Gentlemen don't need such bling.

Nice 2000 SC you've got there.

Sorry, in the context of Junkman's real cars cut off of 1986. IMO it was 1996.

I was driving down the M6, near Shap, and my IMP overheated... I pulled off the Mway - added 'premix'* whilst being drenched - and set off.

*the day the Chernobyl 'cloud' crossed Cumbria [cows milk poured down drain et al]...

OhShit

TS

There you go.

That explains a lot  :-D

Returned to the man with an emissions tester, only to find they are as bad as before. Then went on a 'this might be the last time I get to drive the Renner legally' jaunt and the EML came on during the return trip. 'oh good' says I, 'now I have a lead to follow to track down this overfueling issue.'

Wrong.

The trouble code is P0420 - 'the cat is not working efficiently'.

Or more likely it's just died completely.

Ho hum

Scirocco having new fuel lines fitted that don't leak magic burny juice.

Just clocked the MOT ran out two weeks ago, so looks like it'll get that too.

A shufty on the 4 poster says clean nether regions so I'm a happy man.

Yesterday I went to Bern zoo. There, I discovered that Lupo is Italian for wolf.

I also learned that Elan is French for moose.

Lotus Moose. :D

Oh it's not mine thank fuck. My work's Transit is off the road and the gaffer stole the Astravan so I've ended up with the pool car.

Just had a phonecall about the Omega.

I had to explain to them that they'll need to phone me back next Sunday when I'm back in Aberdeen, as I'm currently in Switzerland.

"Oh, I thought it sounded a but funny down the phone! I'll phone you back next Sunday then, cool."

This is currently my state of mind, that Mk6 caused me a sleepless night; sensible head is telling me that even though I can find the money to pay for it, it's not a good idea. If it blew up/fell apart I would not have the spare cash to fix it, I really should be sorting out the windows and insulation on the house before next winter so that I don't have another £600 gas bill for the quarter. Not so sensible head is full off WCPGW, even so far as trying to work out what a totally buggered Mk6 is worth to a specials builder and thinking I could always go back to work if I had to.

It hasn't helped at all that I have now had a chat with the owner, who sounds a genuine sort and has answered my questions, plus added information I didn't ask about. (Junkman wouldn't like it, the interior light and cigar lighter don't work)

I am currently batting the devil off my shoulder, it is nothing like a cheap estate car, which is what I really should be buying. I have no idea whether you can get a roof-rack for a coach-built Mk6 which could be a compromise.

£600 a quarter ! Shit the bed it must be hotter than hell in your house - insulation or not

Sadly not, that is with the thermostat at 16 degrees and only on for a few hours in the morning and evening and putting an extra dog on the bed, sometimes it is warmer outside. The windows are single glazed sashes which despite the ceremonial gaffer taping up for winter are still as draughty as hell, there is no insulation at all in the loft. I tried to get one of the "free" deals, but apparently as my loft is "too big" I can't have any free at all. (I assumed I could have the maximum amount allowed and then buy the rest, but no.) Currently trying to get a summer deal on it. As you can see I'm in an ideal position to contemplate buying a Bentley.

I'm sure you can guess what the sensible* people of AS would advise you to do : BUY IT !

Yes, it may well lead you to financial ruin, but so what ? You'll have a smug grin on your face every time you pop into Lidl for your weekly supply of baked beans, toast and cheap lager, as this will be waiting for you outside :

Went for a ace hoon last night to see my old man in his t4 at carsington water in Derbyshire. Took all the back roads from Derby and was mainly traffic free. Got there and the front tyres was red hot and the whole thing had a proper workout, the amount of heat these pump out from the engine bay is crackers.

Here she is cooling down.

Then this morning the postie bought me some cushion covers from the states, one is a old bmw copy of a seat fabric and the other a copy of the old b10 alpina fabric. Mrs T was wise and knew I wouldn't just buy some cushion covers for the house and that they must be some car connection.

My 205's head was removed on Friday and has gone to be pressure tested, measured for flatness then skimmed.  The head gasket was knackered. Good news was that the liners had not dropped.  They are now clamped to prevent movement if the crank is turned.

I fancied sitting in the sun to have a coffee and bacon roll this morning.  Drove to Costa Brackley and had to sit inside because all outside seats were taken. Read the Mail but still none the wiser as to today's news (The Times had got AWOL). Got back in the Stellar and got a faint click when turning the ignition to start.  I may have said 'you fucking bastard.'  Tried again before crawling out of the car to hammer the starter solenoid and it started.  Had a pleasant drive through the countryside along single track lanes whilst admiring the budding trees and soaking up the warmth.  Next job is to look on-line for a cheap starter or I'll be forced to use the Tipo of much back ache.

I drove around the Wirral today, how I managed the whole day without killing someone by stabbing or fire I genuinely don't know. Heswall Tesco is god's waiting room, concentrations of miserable old retired fuckers thinking they are made of pure gold and their shit smells of incense.

I 'may' not be the ideal person to speak here, but,  BUY IT!

You are a long time dead, only pass this way once etc. My bugger has bankrupted me (just about) and I still love it. That MK6 is just gorgeous and a lot simpler to work on and repair than later ones. Yes, bits will be pricey but the owners club has some great stuff available for 'proper' cars (like yours) and there is a wealth of knowledge about.

Buy the car, then buy the windows on a deferred interest credit card. If you don't like the car/ownership/costs, sell it and pay off the card before interest gets you. If you love and adore the car, then worry about paying the credit card then! I guess you could always sell the new windows.... :)

This afternoon I have polished my wheel rims on the Mazda. Only done two so far 'cos it is hard work (which I am not fond of!) but they do look proper good. All shiny and blingy, I also blasted some silver paint about on the spokes. I did that bit in proper Autoshite fashion - no prep, no masking, no care :) Still looks better than before!

The passengers side will be trickier as I live on a one way road and I don't fancy sitting in the middle of said road rubbing down my wheels with sandpaper while dodging Argos delivery lorries!

You didn't join the owners club !!!! I hope it is better than the Rolls Royce enthusiasts as they are £100 a year membership !!!!!. Bloody rip off that is, the Austrailian club put a lot of info online and worth looking at.

Are you growing cannabis?

For £600 a quarter you grow enough ganja to raise the titanic.
