Just had a visit from RobT and Six-cylinder. Long way to come for a day out! They've gone to the seaside now.

So did MrT bring Mr_cyl and then depart with MOAR and different cars?

Posted

I picture Robt piloting an ex cavcraft Vectra and sixcylinder at the helm of a certain bx estate.

Top effort by all concerned. A*

I think you might be right Italian/Essex_bloke ... although wasn't RobT the initial owner (on here) of the BX estate?

Posted

Yes he was, and both he and sixcylinder are former owners of the ex bollox 220 that johnK recently sold to hillmanimp.

There will come a point in time where everyone on the forum will have owned everyone else's car at some point.

What do we do then?

And I've just been piloting around the ex-RobT Mondeo Ghia X - not a bad old bus either!

That won't happen I reckon. There's too much new shite gets brought onto the forum and then shared, whilst the odd car slips through the net and sells via eBay/Gumtree/local free ads etc.

The good news is Mrs Sills has finally come to terms with my Roffle Celica :-D.

The bad news is that this has been pushed in to daily use following her XC90 shitting its EGR valve meaning it crawls along at 10 MPH!

So in to the garage it heads again, as nice as it is frankly I'm getting pissed off with the thing now, and think we will get rid soon.

Still at least she likes the Celica!!

Just taking a break at Woolley Edge services. Been a cracking day out and was good to have Chris 6 Cylinder as passenger, lots of car talk and shared the driving. Vectra is flippin' GR11, goes like stink and suits me perfectly (Clarkson can stick his low opinion of them up his arse). Cheers John!

Here we are at the seafront, although it had got dark by then so pics are shite

Oh, I had it in my head they were IRS for some reason.

An axle, and not just *any* old axle... The "highly advanced" axle from this :

Despite indecent levels of speed, I'm still on the M1. At Toddington services for a pez shot, not that I need any though.

Also saw this in the car park for LOLz. A beaten up Mondeo with Partridge style abuse written on the side. Beds kickers it says, didn't want to get too close in case I got a kicking! No idea what that means, must be some kind of put down specific to Bedfordshire or something.

Nice bit of cross country backroading this morning, M40 is shut both ways at J5! Once I got past the sat nav sheeple it was lovely, Dibley is lovely at 10 past 7 in the morning!

Was a twat wasn't it.

Took me nearly an hour to get up the hill to J5. Needed to be in the office today otherwise I would have turned around.

Yep! I luckily stopped just at the top of the old hill, so no hill starts for me! I nearly thought about sticking it out to stokenchurch, but I've been there an hour and a half before now so thought fuck this, and went the back, back way!

What time did you come across it? I found it at 6.40, god knows what it was like an hour later!

Daughter came up today, Mums birthday tomorrow, so whilst here and i have an extra day off, decided it would be a good time to fit the new front pads to her Aygo and to slip in an oil and filter change.

It's been sounding like a bag o' spanners recently and is now out of warranty.

So, first thing dipped the oil, its on the min so she's had a gentle bollocking, when she thought about it its about 2000 miles since she checked it and topped it up last, so obviously its starting to show a little wear.

Oil was black as buggery too.

So got the oil draining and set about the pads, NS fine, got round to OS, swung the caliper up and the arse of it covered in grease...bollocks, CV boot split?, nope the clamp at the CV end has vanished and the boot slipped off, no undue noises so i've repacked it with CV grease and reclipped it.

Pads in no trouble on OS, discs have a little lip, i changed 'em about 3 years ago, but they'll do for this new set of Pagids.

oil filter off , new MrT filter on, fill up with some proper oil Morris' fully synthetic.

Decided i'd take it for a little run to bed 'em in, quickly checked the air filter, thats as black as your hat, supposed to have been serviced by Mr T in June, maybe its got that dirty in that time i dunno, anyway i gave it a run up to the factors and swapped over the filter in their yard, 30 second job.

Brakes feel fine, by the time she reaches the motorway going back in half an hour they'll be fully bedded in i reckon.

Engine far quieter, really don't know what to make of it, OK it was low but at min level so useable if not ideal, it wasn't low at Christmas and it sounded like a bag o' spanners then too, be interesting to see if this continues to stay quiet over the next few months, could they be using some el crappo oil?

I was about 15 min after you Beko. It was clogged back 2/3 of the way down the hill.

Once on the M40 it was glorious!

There isn't really a back route that I can take to work. Just have to stick it out.

Ugh. Investigating the oil leak on the Dyane. I thought there was too much for it to be rocker covers. I was right.

That's a leak on the oil feed pipe. Believe me, it leaks a lot when you rev the engine! No wonder it was leaving puddles. Oh well. Better to spot it now than have it monumentally fail when driving down a motorway. That's an engine killer right there. Just priced up some replacements and a few rubber hoses I need and suddenly the bill comes to over £70. Arse.

Wow what a glorious day it's turned out to be weather wise, I've done a couple of patches of welding that I said I'd do but been putting off since the tail end of last year

In other news, while it briefly wasn't raining, I removed both solenoid packs from the Honda's gearbox. There's a metal gauze on each that can get clogged up with crap. Both seemed fine though, with lots of lovely clean fluid leaking out everywhere as I did the job. Smells much nicer than manual gearbox oil...

I think this confirms for me that the torque converter itself isn't entirely healthy. Not that I'm going to do much about it other than take it on a 400+ mile road trip this weekend. It's pretty much fine once it's warm.

:( That's a shame, after seeing the suggestion of the filters it seemed highly likely, especially since the old fluid wasn't particularly clean.

If it ever came to it, I suspect a secondhand box wouldn't be terribly expensive as everyone seems to want the manual version, of course that would be a lot of work and there'd be some risk of the replacement having the same problem...

Despite not starting the SD1 for some time I fired it up today.

As it is in my garage I had the sense to wear a mask - I do not fancy death by carbon monoxide.

I watched thunderbolt and lightfoot last night - I always laugh at the scene where Bill McKinney tries to kill himself, Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges in his Plymouth fury by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Indeed. We'll see how it goes.

The Metro passed its MoT today. Always a relief as you never know! Only thing he mentioned was the big nail sticking out of the inside wall on one of the rear tyres. What with the Mondeo that's two nail incidents this week, might be some builders not tidying up properly after themselves around here. Gonna be a pain in the butt as the skinny 135s for povvo Metros are NLA new, current ones were new old stock a few years back.
