I thought the stock wheels look a bit tame on my Justy.

I've spent a while looking for some replacement wheels but not really seen anything I liked. I don't think the white bodywork helps.

I thought something with some black on it might work and even considered trying the old Rostyles that were used on Opels (4x100 PCD)...

Maybe not a great look. All the same, because the wheel centres on these ^ seem to dome out over the hub, I wanted to check how far the hub nuts stick out, so I took the standard trims off to take a look.

I don't think I need to look for replacement wheels now - these look quite...functional.

I can dream but I can't really afford one!

I reckon you could possibly do it within £1.5k delivered to Scotland....

I'm at my aunt's place.

She's reversed her 03 plate Fiesta into a tree, cracked a light lens, bent the side/wing, dented the bootlid and popped the bumper out of place. AFAIK everything still works and the boot opens.

Because she's a fuckwit, she's gone through insurance, and it's been written off for sake of a £210 repair.

It's only her third car in nearly 30 years, the other two being a Metro and a Mk2 Fiesta.

Had a bloody awesome weekend of not enough sleep and race cars at the 2CV 24hr. Our car finished 15th but we had a lot of fun getting there. We were third in class at one point!

More later. I'm still quite broken.

mrs C was bending my ear a bit yesterday about what her new car is going to be. Given we're now poor because she's jacked in her job (all be it to look after cortJR) we'll not be getting another car on finance.

I said I recon we should go for a 04-05 1.6 Petrol Focus at about a grand. She then said "could you not buy some cars and sell them for more money then you could use that to get a better car".  Oh aye, it's that easy what do you think I am flippin cavcraft.  Anyway it got my brain all steamed up and I found myself bidding on an 07 Clio! I didn't get it but have been offered it on 2nd chance offer.  We'll see what happens.

This may be on my drive later subject to a sensible deal.

Pleased to hear that, hope it works out.  I've been feeling very guilty about leaving you car-less.

What the hell are these Clio's made out of? It had the build quality of a pound shop dustbin. I didn't take it.

I'm having impure thoughts about the new gen Saab 9-5 . So few Petrols around though .

Posted

07? Is it a mk2 Campus or a mk3?

Mk2s are made entirely out of cheese.

Honestly, I don't know what people mean when they say mk2 Clios are shoddily built. Maybe it's because it's only done 50000 miles or perhaps 172s were screwed together with more care using better quality trim etc. but Mrs_Jon's 2003 Clio is built like a nuclear bunker in my eyes, especially for a small car (which is actually still quite a small car, unlike a modern Yaris, for instance).

That said, I'm basing this on the comparison of a 205 and a Citroen Visa, so therein lies my answer, I guess. But you don't see any 205 owners on here grumbling too much about such dynamics, though probably because they've all migrated to the new AS favourite, the R8 Rover.

Anyone had owt experience with a 2010 ish Scooby Forester ? Petrol Auto

My old dears fancy buying one for me to ferry em about in - Got a 2000 Version turbo sport, but know feck all about the newer ones???

mrs C then said "could you not buy some cars and sell them for more money then you could use that to get a better car"

A) with the wife actually egging you on, there's now no hope for you.

B) does mrsC assume "newer = better"?  That's an awkward one.

Posted

It was a mk3 Clio like this one. It was horrible. Not just rough but generally horrible even if you discount the bust trim and badly repaired panels.

Aye Mrs C has been spoilt with new cars for the last 6-7 years. To be fair it's worked out well as we've not had one breakdown or fault in any of them over that period, which includes the ownership

of a Fiat and 2 Citroen.

The aunt's Fiesta has somehow been un-written off (???) and is going to be fixed.

New old-font number plates arrived for the Audi yesterday, and it's finally stopped raining long enough to fit them.  They look ok, but the font isn't quite right - letters are a bit too thick.  Miles better than the VAG scene fake German ones though.

Meanwhile, just as I'm negotiating to sell it to a mate of Cort16's, the Yeti develops a slight but worrying rattle under acceleration at exactly (and only) 2300rpm.  It's probably just a slightly loose exhaust, but if it's the start of the DMF going again then I'm going to be mightily pissed off.

Good news: New workshop bench arrived.

Bad news: It weighs 102Kg

Good news: Managed to slide it out of the courier van and onto the random bit of NEC carpet I keep in the barn.

Bad news: It inevitably had some very minor damage from shipping.
Good news: Taking it out of the packing, it was easy to get the bits sorted and into the barn properly.

Bad news: After attaching the legs, it was too bulky to lift up and too heavy to realistically move alone.

Fortunately the landlord/farmer had popped over to check on the sheep, and helped move it into place.

Tried to look for some insurance for the Merc but as it's on a Cat-C, either I'm told 'no' or 1k+. So what I might do is swap Merc for Rover, get Rover on road, buy doors for Merc, get day insurance on Merc at some point and get it down to mates garage to get it repaired. This way I've at least got a car on road and used whilst getting my Merc repaired at the same time.
