Fleet Update..

The T25 continues to give sterling service after just taking us to North Devon and back without hiccup. Well apart from getting woken up on the last night by the radiator fans coming on full chat for no reason! Had to take the fuse out so I guess it's the rad fan switch which needs replacing.

It's also crossed a significant mileage milestone after 30 years (missed it by 4 miles - oops).

The Mondeo also crossed the same milestone in a lot less time. I found a suitable track from my youth to celebrate the fact. Again no problems, it goes back next month to be replaced with an Avensis. I will miss it quite a bit being the longest I have had a car ever.

Not using the Alpine much but will give it a run out to a Renault Sport/Alpine day a week on Saturday which I am looking forward to.

Having had my Honda a full year, I found what was obviously a smart repair on the corner of the back bumper. Never seen it before in the twelve months but all I can see now is that bloody fault!

I hate being insane (and a cripple... and lonely... and ME!).

New headlamp wiper blades for the 850 last week and today, after only 18 months, I managed to reconnect the washers. The T piece that feeds the headlamp washers had sprung a leak so a previous owner, as an alternative to replacing it, removed the T piece that splits between the windscreen and headlamp feeds.

Pass nae advisories

Sadly not. It's a Phail.

Not on much though. Mechanically it just needs a ball joint on the front.

However it needs a little attention with the metal gluer. H. Imp has been booked next week.

Oh, and it needs a screen fitted. So will see if the insurance will pay up for that.

Don't beat yourself up mate, it probably looked mint when you first got it - the paints and methods they use don't last, so a year later it will look obvious.

For a start feathering lacquer out will always eventually receed back a bit and give you a halo, you'll probably improve it a bit with some mild compound.

I made a stupid statement about Hyundai Stellars (mine in particular) being excellent reliable cars in the repmobiles thread a day or two ago.  Fate was thus tempted and today I lost power in my hometown highstreet after a run of about 30 miles. I was left with a normal tickover and that gave me enough power to get home.  The main symptom is that the engine baulks as soon as the accelerator pedal is pressed and will actually stop unless the clutch is slipped and the throttle blipped.  With no load (i.e. in neutral) it does much the same, and if I can get it to rev it is erratic with slight backfiring. Idling, as mentioned, is smooth and completely normal.  Checking the points, condenser, wiring (HTT & LT) in the distributor and between distributor and coil showed everything to be correctly adjusted, no arcing when manually parting the points with the ignition ON and all wires securely  connected - idling also unaffected if HT/LT wires and leads are moved when running.  Examination of the plugs showed all to be similar and of normal appearance. I swapped them for new ones and it made no difference.  Next checks will be compression, then carb off for a good clean, followed by fuel fiilter and fuel pump.  I may get fed up with the investigation and pay my classics friendly garage to empty my wallet. Prior to todays hiccups, the Stellar was running beautifully, so I'm hoping it is not a major/expensive fault.

Do they have diaphragms in the carb on those?

My news today was that I saw a new Dacia. It was a faux by four thing (is that the Duster?)  and in solid white. It was 14 reg and poverty spec with horrible steel wheels but what surprised me was the paintwork which was as flat and dull as a witches tit.

Don't think it will last well.

It's making me think once more of getting rid!  I like 'perfect' or 'shabby' but nothing in-between... It's still worth about what I paid for it (amazingly!) a year ago but I have spent out on a lot of stuff for it...

No idea what to do, story of my life at the moment. I go nowhere so fuel is not an issue and only sticking fuel in it every three or four months is a novelty but I'm not that bothered. Still keep looking at Bentleys and RRs. A nice late model Turbo R parked outside would get the neighbours talking but, would it fit in a standard disabled spot and would it dissolve while I watched if used as a car rather than an ornament?

Not sure about diaphragms - have yet  to study the manual and/or strip it to find out.

There are several Dacias around here (Northants).  I've seen a few Dusters. They look pleasant enough in a chunky, base spec way.  I've even seen a Sandero, also in the popular flat white with black bumpers.  A gallon of Dulux exterior gloss  would  fix that.  Not seen any Logans yet.

I was going to start today but after I came home I had a blistering headache which wouldn't go even after an hours kip.

Grin-wise, I did manage to get some shelves and some small tables from Brad that he didn't need. All of my DVDs now have a place, as does my stereo set and some clothes and magazines.

Insurance ran out on the Merc tonight so I'm gonna have to see what the deal is with the claim. I can afford the insurance but sadly there are more pressing things that need to be paid for so now I have no legal car to run around in, I'll be bussing it tomorrow. However, what I may do is re-insure the Merc when/if my insurance money comes through and the transfer it to whatever I buy next.

No real point in me starting a thread on this considering it's not quite 'shite' enough yet so here's a few pics from my first month of car ownership. Cost me 1200 Yoyos and has MOT on it until Feb 2016. Got my driving test at the end of the month so this is basically a practice car.

It's so far been an excellent little motor with only a small radiator piping leak needing to be fixed. I have however found some corrosion on the passenger side sill which will most probably need welding before it's next MOT. Enjoy the pics, give it a few more years and hopefully it'll be deserving of Shite recognition!

The interior was fairly manky so was given a thorough clean and hoover. The car has clearly been owned by a smoker at some point as there a re a few small cigarette burns on the seats and headlining (somehow!). The interior actually smells fine so the smoker owner mustn't have lit up inside too often. The above picture of the rear bench shows the dirtiest part of the interior. Not bad considering the cars age.

I knew as soon as I saw the Fiesta that the naff looking kick-plates that adorned both the drivers and passenger side sills would have acted as water catchers for the past 13 years. My hunch was correct and when I began poking around with a screwdriver two smallish holes appeared. I tore the kick plates off and propelled the pieces of Shit into orbit. Pointless accessories that have damaged the car over time.

Once I had ground back the rust it didn't actually look too bad. I'll get the two holes welded in the next while but for now I just gave them two coats of primer and a healthy dose of 'hoping for the best'. When the rust returns which it almost certainly will I may invest in some chemical rust converter but for know coats of primer will hopefully suffice.

Had a right result today, courtesy of our incompetent DVLA.

Earlier this year I tried to register my Capri as a historic vehicle. I filled in the V5 with the change and sent it off to DVLA.

It came back about a month later with a letter telling me they needed a V10 application for new tax form aswell.

So I filled this in, took it all to the Post Office and the lady on the till tried to make the change. Eventually she got it sorted and took my V5 etc to forward to DVLA for me.

About a month later I get a receipt through for a years road tax at the new £0 rate for historic vehicle. Great! But still no new V5!

So I ring DVLA and ask wtf is going on. Apparently a block was put on my cars file until required paperwork was received. They asked a few details, removed the block and confirmed the tax class has been changed and a new V5 would be sent out straight away.

I received this and thought no more of it.

This morning I get a letter from DVLA. Inside is a cheque (refund) for a whole years road tax for the car!

The old tax (that I payed for) had expired when I made the changes to tax class months ago and the new tax starting in May 15 was at the new free amount!

So I've somehow ended up being refunded £230 odd that I didn't pay in the first place!

Not that I'm complaining of course but wtf happened!? Some sort of screw up on their end.

Anyone had this sort of thing before? What's the chances of them realising the mistake and asking for it back?

I'm wondering weather I should spend it!? Knowing my luck I'll do that then they'll ask for it back!

Send them an empty crisp packet by recorded or signed for. Then, if they ask for the money back, just tell them that you've already sent it back and show them your receipt. Basically just waste loads of their time giving them the runaround.

If you like Citroens, especially big ones, the C6 anniversary celebration at RAF Cosford might be worth a visit this weekend. I'll be slumming it in the XM on the Sunday.

If you like Citroens, especially small ones, then head to Anglesey next weekend.

If you don't like Citroens, you're wrong.

Nu tat scheduled for collection next week.  This giffer owned 214 SLi.  83k miles, lots of history and the HG has been done at some point, so fingers crossed it won’t boil over any time soon.  Not bothered about the colour, but some SEi alloys would enhance the looks I reckon so I’ll see if I can bag a cheap set.

It’ll be plugging a gap in the fleet when the Cavalier is off the road for some much needed TLC.  It needs front shocks, welding, a possible new steering rack and middle exhaust section (or just bandage it for the timebeing), a couple of small holes in the petrol tank sorting, plus a few other smaller things as they are starting to irritate.  I’ll get some epoxy putty on the tank rather than resort to a new one hopefully.  I’m quite happy to lob money at the old thing as even with knackered shocks and various over faults it’s a hoot to drive and comfortable, SWMBO loves it too which helps seeing as I bought it for her to use mainly.

Just bought a set of brand new OEM alloy wheels for The Saab off eBay for less than the cost of getting the original wheels refurbished :)

Mk1 Ford Focus saloons have a factory stoved-in-boot.  Bit of a strange styling choice really.
