I can see how that might not be the ideal way of bringing it home from Wiltshire, though.

That's not a camouflage paint job I can see there, is it?  Think this might have calendar cover potential.

It is camo. The fuel pump does work, it just didn't have any fuel in it. To just quickly get it running, we went for a direct feed of fuel. I have only bought one car this year, so for the first time in ages, I feel quite excited about potential newness. I've realised that getting my 2CV back on the road is likely to be a long haul - even if I wasn't blowing cash on Dyanes, I don't reckon I could afford a thorough body rebuild until at least the middle of next year. I need A Series kicks before then!

That power steering one has just started coming on on my Ibiza.

VCDS says its an intermittent reference voltage (read dodgy wire or steering angle sensor)

If that's the case with yours it's either the load sensor wire to the alternator or your battery is on it's way out. My battery is brand new so it's not that.

Do your lights dim a lot when you turn the steering wheel?

Lights don't dim but the rev counter drops to 0 whist still running which sets of the oil warning light and buzzer although it has oil.

I just ignore it!!

Sometimes at low speed the power steering stops which catches me out when manoeuvring.

Plate action -

SWMBO touched parked into the transit on Wednesday afternoon, by the late evening I'd browsed the dmb graphics website and ordered. This was dispatched Thursday and arrived with me today....

Pre 2001 font and with a dealer logo. Really pleased with the plates and the speed that they turned them around in- DMB don't hang about!

Excellent job.

Did the wheels need tracking/balancing?

Seriously though, nice little tipping trolley that.

You could sell those to SleazyJet, for customers' luggage paint a VW badge on it and make a fortune selling to dubbers as a giant "whatsit" flyer like they all have.

I do have to AX: is it purple?

A4's replacement headlights arrived today. They seem to be different on the inside (new units Valeo, old ones Bosch) as well as being a bit knackered so we might have to swap the guts over and just replace the damaged casings. We were hafway through cleaning them but Old Man went to 'check his emails' when in actuality he's fucked off to do his taxes or something else involving a load of bills, so I've fucked off onto AS.

Meanwhile these arrived too:

Much, much better than the abominations on there at the moment - post 2001 font, red border, and a GB flag that's both in the wrong font and has both EU and union flags on it and looks like tacky shite. Not going on for a couple of weeks as they're half of Old Man's birthday present, the other half is a genuine boxed Audi keyring I got for £2.50 on eBay.

I have a massive hatred for the plates with the EU flag on them.

I mentioned the Fueled Society show in Leeds at the Tetley recently, this is what I sent over since I couldn't be there myself.

From the pictures I've seen it was a bit of a Pineapple gathering but there were also a few nice modified things.  Slacker is the chap responsible for kindly hosting my work on his stall, he does pinstriping and fancy sparkly paint things and I really want to throw money at him one day.  I quite fancy that tattoo removal tool he's got hanging up there.

Not sure what, if anything, I've sold yet.  I regard this as an advertising opportunity and any sales or interest in commissions are a bonus.  Original artwork is tough to sell, it's rarely EXACTLY what the potential buyer wants.

The replacement A4 headlights are H4 instead of H7, that's what's different. They've cleaned up well and look a lot better than the mismatched pair that were in, the whole front of the car stinks of low-budget accident repair. Brighter bulbs too!

Long term plans include a replacement bumper that's less deformed and a set of the projector light/indicator combination units from facelift A4s.

Could you not tidy up the dyane, put a bit of value back into it whilst pottering with the 2cv in the process, then when you need the big bulk of cash to do the big heavy jobs to complete the 2cv sell it?

Speculate to accumulate sort of thing, whilst having fun

That's loosely my plan. I may give the 2CV more of an overhaul and go over the running gear. I can potter around with that until I can afford the major body surgery.

Is it an SDI? Hows the Aux belt?

Ah yes, you'd be AXpecting so but my lips are sealed...

If they don't have the logo you want, they'll make from a sample or image.

They made my plates up for the now nonexistent supplying BMW dealer.

The same with the Ex bollox rover 220 I had. in fact I was extra demanding and measured the existing non standard size rear plate as I wanted a true replica. That's what numberplate OCD does to a man.

DMB are great though. my disorder is treated by them also seeming to be as keen on getting plates 'right' as I am.

Got the new plates fitted to the transit.......

I think I've decided to have this shambolic Dyane. What better to spend a tax refund on?

I have a few options regarding collection.

1) Borrow a car trailer, drag it home with the XM as is.

2) Chuck a bit more money at the vendor. He'll MOT it. Drive it home.

3) Halfway house. Get it welded, then fetch it home with the trailer OR swallow a brave pill, book it in for an MOT nearer home and drive home.

It needs a pedal box (I have spares) and wheels and tyres (I guess my 2CV would lend them). Not sure how I get them to the car yet, which is in Wiltshire. So, trailering it home does make some sort of sense. Then I can fit the pedal box and wheels/tyres at my leisure.

Here's me yesterday gravity feeding some fuel into it. Sounds lovely. Even though the exhaust is like swiss cheese.

Last week I fixed the Pug 205's coolant leak (just needed a jubilee clip tightened) and convinced myself that the slight wiff of petrol was not a serious leakage (because I could not find any trace of where it was coming from).  Whilst it was receiving attention, my Stellar became the main car - until its exhaust back box started blowing and promptly fell off when I investigated.  I used the Tipo for a day and the driver's side window, powered by Italian electrics, decided that a cm at a time was perfectly adequate.  The 205,  available again after its fix, managed several days before developing another coolant leak, this time from the radiator core.  Meanwhile, the Stellar's bodged back box brought it back on line until it started running on 3 cylinders until warmed up, and started putting more oil on the driveway than is usual.  Some gloop in the Peugeot's rad made it hold its coolant today, so I used it.  When parking this evening the brake pedal went to the floor.  No fluid loss, so probably a buggered seal in the master cylinder.  Tomorrow I could be driving the Reliant.  New cars are shit (but I am beginning to see why I have occasionally liked having one).

I've just packed the car for three of us for a week and there's loads of space, yet it was filled to bursting for just me going to Shitefest. How does that work?

Yes, they made one up for me with a long closed dealer. I have the back one all they needed was a photo of the plate. They really are good.

It had stood since Jan last year and is full of veg. Attached jump leads, started first go. Shame the rust has killed it, I forgot how much I loved this car, but I'll strip it for bits and weigh the rest in, I think.

Muthafucka!!!!!! I have never seen owt like that on a 90's pug before.

Was that a hybrid between a Rover P6 and a P38 then?

Chap along the road called me along to see his new Merc. Not sure what it was but looked new - ie after 2001. Asked me what i though as i like "cars". Looked well rough, every panel had a ding, bumpers scratched, alloys kerbs, back arches blistering up and interior filthy. Its was a big engined 5l thing. He says "what do you think i got it for". Now i don't want to offend as he clearly loves it, looking at it i though £1500 at most so safe bet double and i cant go wrong. I said that a 3k Merc any day mate i says. His face drops, he paid 5k for it. Felt really bad so popped home and got changed and help him clean it up a bit and buff out the scratches as best we could. Treated the rear arches to some waxoil and clean them up a bit. It now looks like a £1700 motor

Watching the cricket and trying to build up the enthusiasm to go and strip the vdp top end down to try and find out why the engine will not turn over . Seem to have lost my car mojo at the moment maybe an afternoon of spannering will help.
