WINDSLAMMER aerofoil and Thule roofrack. Living the dream. Now, where can I get a terrible half-rotten wooden trailer with Mini/Somerset wheels to tow behind this?

I've got an ex-Des trailer I tow behind a Somerset. Recently treated it to some new tyres, wheels and hinges and greased the rumbling bearings to get a bit more life out of them.

I wired up the Cleland-spec tow bar today using Scotchloks harvested from the dead V70- including the two I'd already borrowed for an underbonnet wiring repair*.

No need for a buzzer or indicator relay, just connect straight to the indicator wiring and the warning light on the dash works. There was a moment of head scratching because the car's own rear indicators didn't work. I thought it might be some clever system similar to the one that bypasses the car's foglight but it wasn't. I'd taken the cluster out to trace wires and both indicators were flashing away on the boot floor. I = massive fud.

ETA- That is the first time I have ever been able to use a 7N socket as is. Even when I've bought cars that were professionally* wired and in regular towing use I've had to rewire and/or renew the socket. The Autoshite brand truly is a mark of quality.

12 year old 80k cambelt in "not that bad" shock, not sure if the cracking means it's jiggered. The OE VAG tensioner and water pump are serviceable.

Well, that didn't go well.

It won't start, I think the pump timing is out somehow, even though I didn't touch it, and it looks like the camshaft is slightly off at TDC even though I didn't touch that either.

You have to be properly methodical and meticulous to do the belts on these without proper tools, I am neither.

My hands look like I've been arm wrestling with Edward Scissorhands in a vat of used engine oil.

SCRAP IT.

Just put a deposit down on a slice of BL tin that qualifies for 'historic' tax.

Should have it home this evening!

SCRAP IT.

Would it line back up if you could borrow the proper tools from somewhere?

Some kind* friendly* soul has keyed my missus Yaris.

This is after some G3 buffing action

I got 95% of it out using my cheapo silverline rotary polisher, using a small waffle pad it did a brill job.

Is there any other compounds which might take the last scratch out or I am risking it too much??? And will end up hitting the primer.

I am mega happy now(not when I first saw it, my missus was in tears and I was planning on making some homemade ied's for anyone who got too close) as it looked like it would need both doors painting.

You could try autoglym super resin polish, there is not much cut at all but it can mask some marks so might me worth a try.

@the judge:  I'll do a big update when I've finished the important welding (floor, sill, boot, front wing) and got the interior back in.  Current update method keeps me motivated and content so you'll have to be content with micro-updates for another few weeks yet.

I think so, but I can't bear to look at it until my mind's cleared.

WHAT ? Last time I checked, even the most hanging examples of a 24 were selling for 2-3K euros !

I was just gonna post a bunch of LBC links to disprove this, but there aren't any cheap ones on there at the mo. If you want one I know of a solid RHD CT for £1100, it's in fuggin Switzerland though.

In France there is actually a (small) market for Panhards so they are worth something whereas over here there is none and they are not.

I'm a bit annoyed with myself. I was having such a jolly time that I pretty much failed to get nice photos of most of the cars I drove.

That looks lovely!!! Moah pics please

Does it come with much history?

1972 L registered Triumph Toledo 1300

41k miles backed up with MOT's going back years, some servicing receipts going back well before my existence too.

Bought from an old boy who I got a good feeling off, he's in his local vintage club and the car won 2nd prize at a recent event (even got the rosette with the sale!).

He's obviously looked after it and thinks very highly of it. It's quite recently had a bit of a respray, it's not perfect but it's tidy enough.

Rust wise it's not bad, bottom of drivers door is a bit scabby, little bit of rust around headlights.

Underneath has been regularly waxoiled.

Couple of electrical gremlins to sort with the rear lights too.

Overall it just needs a minor spruce up, interior cleaning up and then I can enjoy sub £1k 70's motoring for a bit.

Well, this happened this morning on the way to work:

:-(

It did a "Beko1987 Citroen ZX" on me. Thankfully it happened at low speed as I was going around the roundabout. I went all the way around to avoid a line of traffic that was taking the same road I was heading which was first exit, as I went around the rouandabout I hear a massive CLUNK and the car dropping slightly, I then came to a halt. But as I was still in the middle of the roundabout I accelerated towards the nearest exit and pulled up onto a pavement to avoid being in the way.

Upon inspection the the balljoint had given away which now explains why the car felt so wallowy in the last few weeks. Whenever I turned the steering wheel there was never any positive feel in straightening the wheel and it would randomly wander and it got worse.

The Merc has been recovered to my mates garage, I have asked him to change the balljoints and arms on both sides, the P/S fluid will also get changed.

This also means I'll be on the search for a new wing, it's not noticeably damaged but it has taken out a chunk out where there was rust bubbles. I'll need to try and contact the chap who sold me the diesel wing as I stand a better chance of matching paintwork up. this will also be on top of a new bonnet and hinges as they were wrecked by carelessness.

Sigh...

Ah - that'll be it then.

Unlucky Mo - but better than loaded/at speed mate.

^ Glad your ok MO!!!

Unless I see evidence of the balljopints being done in the records I always do them on W124s. Its usually a low speed/ manouvering failure but still! Youve not had the best of luck with the old merc of late.

Crikey. Glad you are ok and that this didn't happen at speed.
