The new news 24 thread

Well that was an odd evening, my dad came round tonight, all very keen which was strange for him, he started playing about with my Mk1, getting the new fuel to work properly as the fuel was running back into the tank and being just rather keen about the car.

I told him i was putting it on ebay tonight and he sat there watching me as i spent ages writing this advert and posting the photos, he then spent the next couple of hours watching the bids shoot straight up to £4100 and then tells me that he wants to buy it!

It turns out the reason he came round was because his girlfriend loves the car and said it would be nice for them to use it for shows and have something to do! I agreed on £4000 which is what i paid for it plus he's done a lot of work on it for me, Still naffed that he didn't stay anything before i spent £17.99 on ebay fee though and after seeing 118 watches in less than 2 hours and over 700 views it made selling it to him even harder! Still it's going to a good home, I know he'll look after it and he's always wanted a old car to play with.

Good bye Dorothy, it was a pleasure owning you.

Other than the money that's a result is it not? You can still get to drive it now and again but don't have to own it. I wonder what it would have made

Though?

So what's next on the want list?

Posted

I think it's the right result, It's just a shame that i couldn't make some decent money on it! I know it's going to be cared for and will give him a hobby, My reserve was £4750 but i have a feeling it would have been over £5000... :(

As for wish list, well... the reason for the sale is that Mrs Trigger is now pregnant, after 9 years of trying and 4 failed IVF treatments, we wasn't even trying! So i needed to downsize some cars, I've agreed on a Sierra which I'm still waiting for but that's only £'s.

Bloody great news Trig. Hope that news doesn't prevent you attending Shitefest '16. Ford Galaxy perhaps?

Hired one of these the other week for a day trip (forgot to post) to pick some stuff up, had 1500 on the clock when I picked it up.

Quite nippy but was driving for economy so not tailgating Audi's on the motorway.

Up then back down the A1.

Not too bad at all, too many buttons as they've made it work with mobile phones through the stereo etc. but not a bad drive.

I had an earlier 85bhp swb and drove it like I'd been at Brinks Mat;)

Got 37mpg oot it, and a fair few scalps.

Ooooh, Rancho. Do it!

(of course Matra made Avantimes too...)

Calm down chaps,  we all know that you don't need an MPV until you've had 4 of the little buggers.

The only car I've been able to get 3 child seats across the back of is the Austin 1100.

Cheers guys! It's still early days at the moment so we are keeping it quiet until the 12 week scan although we paid for a 7 week scan a few weeks back and all was good. Bloody terrifying thought though!

Yaaaay! Congrats Trig! Welcome to the wonderful world of fatherhood! Score on the Corty sale as well. If you need a hand with the Sierra then let me know.

Posted

Ah, if early days, you're right to proceed with caution. I wish you both the best.

Posted

Babies are a team effort, let's not forget.  Congratulations to both the Triggers, let us hope Triglet keeps you waiting just long enough and then hangs around for ages afterwards.

When he/she is old enough you can both restore a mk1 mondeo to go with the cortina!

Congrats to Mr n Mrs trigger... ...all the best results come about when yr 'not even trying'...

Speaking of 'not trying too hard', I brought this monstrosity into the world; I got sick of the 'tiny tank' capacity of my ALDI compressor n its failing 'auto-off switch'; got a bigger AIRMAXX tank n box of disassembled motor etc bits off a mate for nothing when he was clearing out his shed - he reckoned it 'worked well;'before diassembly'...

...using bits of the aldi compressor to revive the kit form AIRMAXX tank, were unsuccessful so I cut off n welded the aldi tank mount n fittings off of it n arranged them wher'd they all work on the Airmaxx tank, with the airmaxx switch changed over onto the reg bit, to make a 'Franken - shite compressor' which seems to work well enough... Ive somehow lost the bigger airmaxx's brass drain off tank screw so Im just goin to fit some random nut to that with a rubber o-ring...WCPGW??

Congrats mate - caution is watchword.

in a related matter it seems my wife can't count. For various reasons we went for early (9 week) scan. Turns out she's 14 weeks along.

More old tat for sale shortly.

I put some linseed oil on The Volvo's old and faded bumpers last night, so they look quite nice. For now:

I'd love to get some new bumpers for the car one day, but I think that the chances of finding some for sale at an acceptable price are slim :(

Congratulations trig and mrs trig, as with the cortina I would say that was probably the best result, sometimes profit has to take a back burner, i hope you told him if he ever considered selling it you had to be offered it first for what he paid you

Posted

Thanks pervy, I'm a bit miffed that I couldn't make more money as I could do with it at the moment but it's the best result really and it means I haven't got to mess around with any eBay wankers. I've told him that if he sells it that he'll have to look after me with the profit though!

It's because it's that extremely rare 'Volvo Pride' model. There was only ever 1 built I think.
