I chose the zx over the xm with that methodology too.

Both were side by side, I had to think about it...

Took T2 back to garage for a couple of minor tweaks - look at me loan car!

...it is much, much, much worse to drive than I had ever imagined.

The gear change is dire, the suspension just hurts, there are no seat belts and the brakes are made of wood.

I have driven it just shy of a mile and am not looking forward to the return journey.

Repainted The Saab's windscreen wiper arms today using a couple of cans of Poundland matt black aerosol paint:

Not quite as-new, but a big improvement on how they were previously :)

Looks great. I did mine on the Santa Fe with the same paint last September still looks good so it lasts fine.

I'm being told that golden Samara has been posted twice today on the exclusive/elusive autoshite facebook group.

Prolonged heavy rain is a good rinse aid when washing big cars:

This is what makes the whole "scene" even more unfathomable....I could maybe understand the worship for these things if they werent such fucking miserable pieces of crap. I honestly dont see how anyone could be arsed to drive one anywhere.

I have owned some truly tedious, dull, unpleasant cars over the years, but I would have happily driven any of them from one end of the country to the other, but every Splitty I have been in has made me want to kill myself within about 300 yards.

As above and also with Beetles!

I have to say, I enjoy to drive the old Busses, especially the VW T3. It´s funny to sit on the front-axle, to jump up and down when going over potholes and to have the big steering wheel in your hand to hold on to. It´s just funny, it´s a laugh. At least when these cars are unmodified.

I think with these old Busses, it´s mostly the look. And the special engine (boxer, aircooled), that makes them appealing.

I've only ever driven a T2 slowly around a field (thanks Catsinthewelder). Not sure how I've never driven one on the road. Beetles and Type 3s yes. I got the 'sitting on the wheel' kicks with the H van which, while slow and very heavy to drive, did at least have the engine in a sensible place - ie not in the load area.

2/3rds of the way through chod bothering this week. Got one more to add and I've had a mini fleet refresh!

Been the first time I've had chance to have a proper play with the Sierra as well, the list is growing re work I need to do to it, but I love it

Really enjoyed driving my Alfa today even though it's a bit modern for this site at a mere 11 years old. Damp roads made it more playable, the gears slotted in nicely, engine pulled well and I enjoyed threading it through the bends. The rain beaded off it nicely too after the few hours I spent polishing it at the weekend. The main thing is it's all working properly as it should. Of course it will probably play me up terribly now after posting this!

Very pretty Fred, bet that towbar catches the unwary out, do you check for bodies at the arse end before moving off?

It does stick out a bit doesn't it! Looking at that photo it makes it look like the paintwork's a bit dull in the middle of the car. Just checked my phone and the camera has a crack down the middle of it. For a moment I thought I'd not buffed it up properly...

The bloody car does this though, runs like a dream for a while so I think this one's definitely a keeper then it will need another wheel bearing or suspension bush doing. For the moment though it's all love.

I'm going to look at a Trabant today with a view to buying.

All I know is that it belongs to a guy who runs a village train station nearby and it's 'cheap'.

Oh and I bloody hate Trabants.

I think I'm in the dog house today.

The missus made a comment about having too many cars. I made a comment about 'only' having 11.

She came back to me half an hour later saying she could only account for 10. I reminded her that I'm picking another one up tomorrow.

She's currently not talking to me. Oops.

Finished a week of 4am starts at work. Phew. They are ok from time to time but not 5 days in a row..

Tomorrow I'm starting a new "second job". I want to level up in my mechanical skills so will be working at friends garage. Tomorrow's task: apparently Transit engine swap :)

JohnK: how's the little ovlov doing? I could do with a cheap runaround.

Finished off painting the wheels today, annoying the Halfords "Heavy duty PU" lacquer reacted with the silver paint and went very "bitty" I've flatted back and polished them and they look a bit better now but not perfect.

That said I'm probably being fussy, I got the new tyres fitted today too and picked up a new CV boot ready for the MOT now, I might try and fit it this afternoon.

It's looking smart now for a old banger.

Cheers, they are definitely better, they used to look like this, plus some of them were missing the paint too.

Another Bad week, should I Lease a Brand New Golf!!!!!

Volvo V70 XC is back from the garage who was sorting the oil leak, Mrs Cyl took it to Bedford yesterday a 60 mile round trip and had to add water twice!

My BMW 328i Coupe E36 has broken a head stud.

The Audi convertible only starts when it feels like it.

My C15 won’t start at all.

The brakes on my MGB GT sometimes stick on.

My 1985 Range Rover was supposed to be MOTed this week and is not finished.

I have taken my 2CV in to be welded because I am fed up with people telling me to replace the chassis, when I am sure a bit of welding now will sort it out for a long time.

My Visa has had its front wings and bonnet painted and the match is crap. The A post, scuttle and bonnet shown are original and the door is a good match using the colour match aerosol cans while the wing was the same paint code from the same supplier but sprayed with a gun.

:)

It's hard to get panel to panel matches like that without blending it out into the door.  Maybe giving the door a good polish might bring it up a bit.

Nice, i see you painted the nuts too. I'm painting the hubs and brake calipers on the santa fe just now, one down three to go. The back of the wheels was a mess, fronts could do with a paint but that was wait just now.

YaY!.. a bit of sun!

.. here I have stripped my Daewoo 'donor' mechanism and will then strip off the car mech likely in the morning.

As I don't have any cover & the glass is out I REALLY NEED TO BE SURE it aint gunna rain!!

Fascinating set up...

The drive shaft/hand crank winder is NOT connected directly to the cog. The 'bearing' is actually a large alloy boss which is running inside a coiled spring/inside the tin housing....

I see the reason here... the enemy of a 'wound up' window is any sort of unscrewing(down wind) by the cog/hand knob. By using the springs natural sticking in the housing added to the window glass NOT being actually sitting on the cog... there is a natural inertia - and that ensures the window stays put!!

Impressed by the thought & execution

I had to drill out the peened over locating holes, into the main bracketry

Winder_Parts_assy.jpg

... and see how the spring 'drags' on the large alloy bearing, tight inside the tin housing & the cog is free located to 'wiggle' on the actual winder shaft.... neat!

Continued......

YEP!!... the Proton cog is totally mangled/toothless ($hite!!!!) - The Daewoo Matiz is perfect.

MangledProtonCog.jpg

The parts were totally interchangeable - TF!!  :-P

So the whole jobbie was lashed back together with three screws and whopped back into the car.....

Rebuilt%20Cog%20Assy.jpg

.... now going up & down like a Clergymans trousers... YaY  8)

I do so like it when a plan bears fruit.
