Apparently it's my responsibility to keep tabs on when Mike's car's MoT expires.  I don't know either.  He's found out he's been driving around with no MoT since the 2nd of May so has got the Corsa booked in.  Only things it might fail on are an intermittent rear light that can be cured by thumping the light cluster and squeaking brakes which might mean they're not very efficient.  He's also manage to wear the clutch out already so that's got to be done.

Still, it can't fail on rust because there isn't any to fail on.

New 1" Corvette style master cylinder arrived yesterday and I'm confident* that this will fix the braking issues on the Plymouth. It's massive compared to the puny Chevy Chevette one and I'm leaving work early today to get it fitted.

Pillock: We have to do that somehow at some point. We can safely assume bacon will be available with that many truckers in one spot, yes?

Donnington is a bit out of my way but truck racing does sound quite brilliant so count me in if I can make the date.

So, despite being quite lucky in retaining my bollocks after Rafflegate 2, I may have accidently made enquiries about a job lot of four Volvo 740GLE saloons at a possibly abandoned property.

I get the feeling this won't end well.

Finally got the Merc back after something like nearly 2 months without it. It's been a bloody long time. Viscous fan is roaring when accelerating which is annoying, but I'll drive around with it like that for a week or two before going back to Mahmoud to prove it is faulty. It was suggested by a shiter here that the viscous fan clutch might need changing on it too so I'll get that done too. Tax has been paid for too so it's all legal again.

The Coupe was due to be chucked through the car wash but rain has decided to fall about, still might chuck it through though.

Coming out of Blackheath again today I noticed yet again more bloody old cars. 1st - A mk2 EscROT 1800S or summat on the back of a low loader, 2 A 70s Yellow Stag V8 followed by a Rover P5b. This part of the Black country is old heaven seemingly, I feel out of place in my Merc, I reckon the 820E is gojng to have go back on the road in the next few months.

Also, whilst walking to the garage to get my car, I noticed inside a unit an R-reg Rover 820 Sterling, I went and spoke to the chap who was repairing it, naturally I took some pics which was made easier due to me being a pedestrian and the car itself not driving about.

LS - That Merc of yours seems like a right labour of love.

Been quite a day on the clear out front.

Volvo 740 made its way down to Hereford this afternoon with its happy new buyer.

The 440 I bought from RobT for shitefest soon became redundant after I committed to purchasing the Bollox Rover. The Volvo is a good car and it's fate was obviously chequered due to its lack of interest on here. Anyway, my mates mam has bought it off me. She haggled me down to £180 so I'm only out of pocket by like £15 on the whole thing so I can't grumble.

The 190E sold on eBay the other day, the guy sounded genuine and stated he is coming tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

I heard there was a p6 in a scrappy in Glasgow so as I was off today I popped up to see if I could get the bumpers off it. It was fucked. All the chromes was rusted through. I'd probably have taken them anyway but I need the mounting brackets and all the bolts were seized or inaccessible. I got bored of rolling about on broken glass after about 30 seconds so sacked it off. I did mange to get the otter switch out it though so not totally wasted

I guess it is, that said this circumstance was more or less forced on me due to an uncaring bodger who pointed a jetwash at the engine and basically ruined its running.

I wish I'd not been such an arse with my Coupe and put as much much labour and love into it as I have with the Merc and other Rovers. About as much as I've spent on the Merc, I could have got the Coupe into a reasonable condition. That said, the Merc is a much more pleasing car.

Not really a collection thread, but I am driving 90 miles and back in the 2cv to Stroud on Sunday to pick up a pair of seats for the X1/9. They are coming from an allegedly 25,000mile GF that the guy is turning into a hill climber.

In other news, my grandmother died last weekend aged 94. Not a surprise, but married twice in total for 76 years, and the Wrexham coronation queen for George 6th! Their first car was a ford pop ( which my dad fell out of and broke his arm- I think he was tryIng to escape) and from from the 1980s ,which I remember , they had an alpine and Talbot before moving into motability newness.

Ls , parts fail , stop blaming everything on jet washing an engine . I get that you aren't happy with his work but I can't really see these problems being caused by a good steam off . It's quite often the first thing to do with oil leak jobs because there is so much shit stuck to the old oil there is no way to see where it might be leaking from .

Good for you 2smoke. Engine wash plus other "work" have seen me without my car for 7/8 weeks and it still isn't right now.

Do excuse me for not being overly pedantic in my posts.

Faulty viscous fan could easily be caused by just being stood up for so long or possibly damaged while the new idler wheel/ bearing was fitted .

Posted

Not a clue, before the car went into Steves it seemed Ok, they did attempt to remove the viscous fan but fail due to nut being mangled on it from a previous attempt. Hey ho, at least it's getting better.

The XM has been fault free on another long journey today. Apart from the central locking trying to lock us in the car. Or sometimes lock itself before you've had time to open the door after unlocking it. Fun!

2 weeks ago I was overseas and I have just uploaded the pictures to Flicker:

Jim Morrison - the Doors?

No, they are a motoring related person (think hot shite)

I cheated, so won't say who it is . But I have owned a car bearing his name that was made when he was alive, although I owned it 3 years after his death.

Pretty cool though , maybe there should be a famous shite men from history's grave spotted thread.

I'll post the answer with the front of the grave picture this afternoon.

Next clue, the grave is in Paris

Brookjm is our winner

Amedeo Gordini is buried in the Montmartre Cemetery, I assume the different spellings are due to the Italian birth name/french life conflict
