My bet is he's either off to see the Fronterror entering the crusher or he's found another Calibra

Bad news.

I'd gone to see my 14 months at the MOT station 306, to pay for repairs and get the welding done. Sadly, the rot is terminal so my old mate is scrap. In the words of some fucker or other though, it's heart will live on.

Still not drinking as welding up the GT6. Some chap is coming over on Saturday to look at it as is but I don't think he will buy it as it looks a right mess at the mo. I need to do the floor on one side and reallign part of the sill on the other as its not flush with the door all the way along, as is often the case when you repair a car that's already been repaired several times in the past.

Early finish today so started the prep work on rustproofing the Landcruiser, front half (easy half) of chassis wire brushed down and rust converter painted on where needed.

Week off next week so, weather permitting, a full job will be done,  large batch of Bilt Hamber's finest on the way.

I was down at my lockup this morning to pick up my grinder so I could chop up an old push bike and the guy who I rent my lockup off came in and said he was going to get the cortina in the workshop today'. I'd taken tomorrow off to try to get the front subframe out bit if he's doing it I don't have to bother my arse. Apparently there's a p6 in scrappies in glasgow so I'm going to go and see if it has bumpers on it instead.

Took the Coupe out today after work to the local petrol station to pump up tyres and get the battery charged up. Needs a wash so I'll chuck it through a £3 carwash and get it a little bit more presentable for sale on Saturday.

Mahmoud has spoken to a some parts/Merc specialists. It's been suggested that I least take the car away for a week or two to get the viscous fan running properly. I hate "roaring" from it and know it isn't right but I'll give a go anyway as its not been with me for a long time. It will get sorted but knowing me, it'll be ages before it does.

Also, on the way back from work, I spotted a good few shite cars, sadly I wasn't in a position to take pics of them, most of them seen in Blackheath, West Mids; Beige Austin Princess reg: JOJ???W twin headlights and on Black painted what looked like wheels, driven by a white-shirt wearing chap in his 30s/40s. White late 80s/early 90s GLOF, mildly pineappled. 2 x W124 Merc estates, first one was actually seen yards from where I "live" in the same place on the same day. Early 90s Scirocco in dark Red.

Shite is starting to come out. I REALLY want to find that Beige W-reg Princess. I oddly had a feeling it was ThaOrganist as he has one but I'm unsure...

A fee days ago, again in Blackheath I spotted a Volvo 122 Estate with a cherished plate reading something like "52 FLX" or something like that.

Tonight, after voting, I noticed a back tyre of the wife's alfa looked soft. Only 8 pund! That's the problem with low profiles, that's my excuse anyway. Wrist duly slapped.

There are five cars between it and the compressor in the garage, so I nipped to the petrol station up the road. I topped up the pressures all round and, while pulling the nozzle off the NSR tyre, the valve flew out! That's not meant to happen.

There followed much gushing of wind and swear words, but I pushed it back in at 10psi, inflated to 28 and gingerly pulled the nozzle away. The valve held. Still holding after the drive home too.

It only has a space saver so I guess she'll have to take the aldi to work tomorrow.

It may have been this one you saw, this is the only snapshot I have to hand of it.  If I remember rightly, it's not TheOrganist's but it is in pretty much daily use.  I'm moderately certain it's owned by the guy that bought the engine out of the orange car I broke.  Nope, that's actually a shot of TheOrganist's car.

That is to say, I think you saw TheOrganist out and about in his wedge that I wish I could buy because it looks like less hassle to sort than mine but never mind.

I think the Xantia WOO noise might have been related to the brakes.  There was an incident that saw me engaging the ABS (I never normally ever have to do this), since then it has stopped going WOO and the brakes feel better.

Saw a policeman taking pics of my Forester whilst parked outside Pets at home today, Pensively approached and asked if there was a problem,

'No sir, this was my dads old car from new' just taking a few pics for him'

Heart beat returned to normal .....

I appear to have won a set of Weller wheels after bidding on them on Saturday night whilst inebriated, and I'd forgotten totally that I'd done so (and expected to be outbid anyway) - is there anyone near Peterborough who could pick them up for me please?

A good day off yesterday chod-bothering....Fitted new tow electrics to dampervan along with baseplate and towball bolts. Isopon-ed a crack in the Portafold door and a few other blebs. Had a pallet turn up at lunchtime with a replacement front seat and door-cards for the Cowley. Chopped the pallet up for a mate's woodburner so that is now all in the damper van along with Cowley parts on the way to storage unit. Ran everything else up the tip then got Minor back out of garage to put Portafold away. Working this weekend then off to Beaulieu for the next one...

A bit of an odd one...

944S has seemed sluggish (relatively) for a while. Mpg has remained the same and it still cruises at 70, it just lacks urge.

I asked my man with the spanners whether K Jetronic could go out of tune and he gave me one of 'those' looks.

I thought for a bit and wondered about injectors blocking up... I filled up the other night (55 litres) with super unleaded and the car is suddenly back on form. I'll give it a couple more tanks full but wondered if more could be achieved with tip in the tank injector cleaner?

Or are these just snake oil & octane booster to make you think something is happening?

Any older performance car should be run on super all the time imo. They were designed for 4 star, so unleaded 95RON is a bit like running them on shandy, 99/100RON is nearer the mark ... Unless my take on fuel is wrong.

I have found you usually end up getting more mpg with higher octane stuff, so the cost works out about the same as with cheap fuel. Shell v-max or whatever it's called now is usually my fav as it's around 99RON and most others are 97.

As for additives - tried a few and I didn't find any were any good.

I've run the raffletastic 760 exclusively on 98/99RON since it came home and it's had a litre of Redex down it's gullet so far and it's running much better... but still not right. Swapped the airbox lids over between this and the scrap 760 I stripped and it's running better to the point SWMBO said "this car seems a lot smoother"... but still not right. Need to source an ICV and see if the mixture can be adjusted, it's still running rich as fuck. Harrumph.

Also much head scratching has come to the conclusion there's a pipe entirely missing from the airbox, the climate control doesn't work because the aircon pump has been removed and the wastegate for the turbo is siezed.

Ta,

Man with spanners, after being told of the improvement has instantly diagnosed 'fuel pressure rail'.

Looks like I'll be having one of those next week then.

Re, super fuel improvement. I monitor everything like a proper geek and super in the 944 normally gives very little performance improvement but better mpg for a couple of tankfuls and then drops back to the same as ordinary.

Other vehicles can't tell the difference!

I found the Princess hates running on Super with hot start issues and over running... but then it's not really a performance car.

Oh I don't know, it seems to give you plenty of drama! :-)
