No - it's being re-done and re-sprayed to maximise profits.

My wife had Daewoo matiz(s) for several years. She bought a new burnt orange one in 2000 - her first brand new car, and it was a cracking little thing. SEplus, leccy windows, alloys and that little engine was a peach and sounds great.

Then she had a 2002, same spec in silver, same as above great car and she kept it for ages.

By 2007 it was knocking on (had nearly thirty thousand miles - the horror!) and I wanted her to try something different, a Citroen C1 or the options, she went to the now Chevrolet dealers and test drove an 800 again. It was.... okay, but, to have the same spec as her previous cars, she had to have the four cylinder car. Duly ordered and the first drive in it.... what a heap of shite! It ran badly, throttle pedal pulsed under your foot in traffic (very annoying) it had no go in it and sounded crap. It was sold after seven months! A 2008 Mitsi Colt replaced it - great motor!

Can go wrong with a Colt :) although 2008 is awfully new!

I really don't need the Cavalier, so any chance if you get a price and decide it's not for you, to let me know?

Just been back and spoke to the garage, it seems that the Cavalier isn't for sale as one of the mechanics wants it, he said he wants £5000 as he's seen one sell on ebay for that.

I couldn't keep a straight face.

Decided to give up on my dream of buying a Bentley :( as everyone who is selling one is a knob!  Fook me, the buggers lie more about service history and owners/condition than they do when selling 'normal cars'. I've travelled far and wide now looking at 'immaculate cars with FSH and few owners' and each one has been a complete shed/potential moneypit!

Why can't people tell the bloody truth when they know you are coming 300 miles to see their heap of shite. Shite is good, shite at £15000 is not!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was so depressed the other night I started looking at Honda Insights!

Car sellers are the same all over the world no matter what they are selling. The 'truth' is simply what they believe. £500 or £50,000 matters not a jot. Sadly.

Think I'll stick to cars close to home. I really want the dealer I bought the Mazda from to have something I like as they are honest and I trust them - yes, honest, I TRUST THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They seem to be okay on prices for normal stuff but old stuff they want loads for - old Rover 75 for £2500 anyone?

Polo has it's MOT on Thursday.

So far I've done a little welding on the passengers sill and a little welding on the floor on the passengers side, 50p coin sized patches though.

One of the bottom ball joints has a slight bit of play but hoping it will be okay.

Also changed a split track rod gaiter and borrowed an exhaust with cat converter.

Tomorrow I'll jack up the rear, check the wheel bearings etc and hopefully that'll be that.

There's a much better, Autoshite-approved way into posh British barge ownership : the venerable XJ40 ! You can still buy a decent one for £1K, maintenance is DIYable and Ford-era ones are actually fairly reliable. Plus, as most ebay sellers would tell you, they are future* classics* !

Just made an enquiry about a some potential shite that has air con listed as a feature, but in their reply they say it just needs a regass. Annoying, although still tempting

Windscreen washers have never worked on my Sd1- i assumed they were borked.

I was wrong - the anti return valve was blocked - a bit of a clean and they were working.

Need to get a battery now - fed up of jumping it using my vectra's old battery.

Almost finished sorting the scruffy quarter on the Xantia, reduced the long crease down to two hardly visible dents that might disappear when I get a bit more paint on (I am quite fussy) and the arch profile has been returned bar two low spots that just need a smidge of filler to sort out.  After working out that I managed to go 450ish miles on only £32 of fuel I don't think I have to worry about fuel economy and I've even got the seat tolerable, if in a somewhat strange position that sees me sat almost bolt upright with the steering wheel nearly on my legs.

It just seems to be a good fit at the moment, something relatively trouble-free and deserving of attention, which I don't think I've had since owning the Ledbury.  With the exception of the clutch, I find myself looking for things to fix and finding nothing to do, it's very strange and obviously typing this has now cursed me.

W00P! New windscreen now fitted to the Maestro, which looks bloody superb. One of the guys who fitted it was very enthusiastic about it, especially when he spotted the original tax disc holder and declared that he used to work for Houldings Austin-Rover back in the 80's and probably worked on the car when it was new! What are the chances of that?

I also gave it its first proper run yesterday. Went to the local car spares shop for a few bits I needed, and the bloke in there (who has never commented on any of the older cars I'm always turning up there in) commented how nice it was to see a Maestro, that he hadn't seen one for years and used to play in his friend's dad's one when he was a child. I did notice quite a few people looking at it when I was driving along, a lot more than I was expecting.

I'm considering getting the windscreen repaired on the Maestro van. There are a couple of chips right in my line of vision. They're only small, but irritating all the same. Can probably get it done for nowt on my insurance as well. The bigger problem is the wiper spindles are utterly worn out. Don't know anyone with a decent linkage for sale do you Dicky?

You may struggle to get it done due to the artistic repair methods* and lack of metal at the roof end.

An e36 I owned had rot at top of the screen..no one would touch it.

I know you're referring to getting chips filled but i Dunno if they'd take the same approach re chip repair just an observation

I'm afraid I don't. You could try on the club forum, someone there might have one. Alternatively, if you're heading Oxfordshire way any time soon, I am told LC Hughes at Bicester have a red Maestro Clubman in for breaking. Could do with a few bits off it myself, but I suspect by the time I get the chance to get up there it will have been crushed.

Hmmm. I might well be over that way on Monday. (Maestro Van is set to cover a hell of a lot of miles!)

I don't understand this, why in the name of sanity would you/she/anyone spunk a load of money on a car you've never driven only to get it home and find out seven grand lighter that it's shit?

Because, cleverly, the demo they had was the same 0.8 litre 3 cylinder device that she already had and was a cracking little tool. No one had a 4 cylinder demo but we were 'assured' that it drove just the same... but better!

It didn't. It was a hateful little heap with none of the charm of the triple. The thing that REALLY got on your tits was the throttle pedal pulsing under your foot in traffic, it was horrid! We trusted the dealer and the car as we'd (she'd) had two of them before. Didn't expect such a disaster from them.... You live and learn.

I could get over there next weekend if it helps, only up the road! Not about this weekend though, unless there's anything from Peterborough you want?

Haven't most of us done this (but with less money) on eBay at some point?
