Having gone to see my dad in Cromer this weekend we went to Sherringham and this monster was there

One of my favourite parts of the world. My folks used to live in West Runton and we loved going to Cromer. Did you ride the train at all? If not do so next time you're there, then take the horse and cart ride the other end into Holt, it's well worth it.

I am not into trains, so I can't tell you what it was but me and my dad spent a good while watching and it made some glorious noises when it left.

Good ol' Class 37! There are still some of them being used here and there.

D6732 is one of what would later become the Class 37, used from the dawn of Diesel to, erm, pretty much now. Not used much but they have a few tucked away for when the fancy new stuff fails.

Trip to get another windscreen for the 18 failed when the replacement one cracked whilst trying to get it out.

Anyone know if it would suffice for mot purposes to use a burr on a pneumatic die grinder to drill a dimple in the end of the crack, fill the crack with epoxy and the put a sticker on each side?

If they can't see the crack they can't fail it? It's over 40mm long unfortunately.

A woman driving a wee Hyundai drove out of the car park to the edge of the dropped kerb, stopped, looked at me RIGHT IN THE EYE, and then fucking drove out anyway.

I've been pretty fucking tired lately, today is the first day I've properly tried to take time off from everything so that must be why I did this earlier on. I watched a car approach, I knew he had right of way, there was no reason for me to pull out and that's exactly what I started to do! Stopped myself well before an incident occurred but I have no idea what my brain was thinking.

At least you stopped. The auld biddy in question just drove on.

Ah Scotoshite Volvo, it even has wee blue saltires hidden in the font of the car

As Volvo is the religion of Scotland I suppose it's only right that they have a font

I have not touched the engine in the red Princess for about two months.  Imagine my surprise when I plumbed the new hose and filter in for the carb that it then fired up with no bother.  It then promptly flooded the carb, but I'll tinker with that later.  The headlights work now too, which they didn't, but none of the other lights bar one interior light are working so I suspect we're going to play Chase The Earth again.  For the first time the clutch hadn't stuck either so that's a good thing too.

It's a good start to the end of the day at least.  Feel more positive about tinker time tomorrow.

If I can get it to run reliably again I'll be happy, then I'll figure out why the lights are being so daft and then I might even do the brakes.  I should probably dump some water in it too I guess.

Granada has behaved itself today BUT there is one odd thing  noticed today when sticking some pez in.....

The filler neck is filling up and the petrol is not making its way into the tank? Well, it is but very slowly, any obvious things to check? It was absolutely fine a week ago when  I stick £20 in it. Its not full before someone suggests that, I imagine these hold circa £80 of pez and there is about £40 in there...

When I bought it I was led to believe it needed pez asap, but because the fuel gauge doesn't work maybe there was some in there already??? I am never taking a fully functional fuel gauge for granted again!! LOL! Fuckstix this could end up on the stupid question thread...

Some sort of tank ventilation system problem?

Posted

Yeah I read that on the web this evening, maybe as the tank is getting more full its causing the issue? Last week (Sat&Sun) it gulped two lots of Ã‚£20 no problem...

Posted

Ok another question, how many around town miles do you recks I should get from £20 of pez in this 2.9? I am thinking about 40, am I miles out?

My grandfather had a Cortina new back in 1982. The dealer put a Capri filler cap on it, apparently they have no breather and it promptly collapsed the tank as it ran. Telltale sign was only being able to get a couple of quids worth of pez in.

Its a xantia, he would have been wafting along quite happily waiting for the modern shitboxes in front to move over!

I got a towbar for my Primera yesterday for £30, REEZULT!!! I have even ordered a little indicator buzzer thing so j can make a pukka job of the wiring.

Spent many MANY hours today with my brother and my Dad getting the timing perfect on the red Princess and chasing a mystery not-firing issue with the engine which seems to want to run on two cylinders out of four.  After various swapping of leads and plugs and regapping and all the other bollocks I begin to wonder if it might be a dying condenser, duff leads or an issue related to the other electric gremlins in the car.

Strangely, most of the indicators, the reversing lights, the washer jets, windscreen wipers, headlights, ammeter, fan blower and horn have all started working now.  Interior lights remain intermittent, clock, fuel gauge and temperature gauge likewise refuse to operate and the foglights, side lights and brake lights also refuse to operate.

Not sure if I'm making progress or just moving the faults around at this point.

I found some good 195/65/15 tyres dumped in the woods, Uniroyal Rain Experts with 5-6mm tread - I took them even though I don't have a car to fit them to.

WHAT IS POINT.

Many, many shiter chariots accept that tyre size.  I'm moderately certain it's Citroen friendly.

That's volvo 940 size, is that.

I spent a couple of hours today fitting the air horn to the Delica (which must be one of the few cars that doesn't take 195/65/15s).  I never really like having to drill into a car's metalwork, but it wasn't going to fit otherwise.  At least my self tapper idea worked OK, although I did break a couple of drill bits drilling the holes (serves me right for buying cheap bits I suppose).

I even wired it up properly, with a relay and everything, rather than my more usual approach of just using the original wires.  I'd like to be able to give a good long blast without the fuse going.  I was initially slightly thrown as the horn button on the Delica is on the earth side, whereas the wiring diagram was assuming that the button was live, but I plugged the wires in in what seemed like the most logical way and it worked first time.  I'll be repairing Peugeot 308s before you know it...

So yeah, the Delica now has a fucking loud horn.  I also picked up some tyres for the Solara today (one brand new and three nearly new, all Goodyear), will take them to the local tyre place in the morning to get them swapped over.

I think Volvo 850s can wear them as well.

In other Volvo news, today was spent sorting the heater blower on mine rather than resting after the massive partsfest on Andy CMS' rotten 760.

Unfortunately I couldn't get the salvaged blower to blow air the right way, so greased the hell out of the old one and popped it back in. Further investigations managed to break the control resistor so I need one of those now too...

Arses.
On the plus side, the replacement front door seals went on a treat.
