Christ, that's awful news Vulg. My deepest sympathies to you and yours and I dearly hope for a miracle. Anything you need just holler and we'll sort it out.

Everyone, thank you.  I managed to get some sleep but now I'm mostly just in bits.  I can't talk to Dad without crying, feel like I need to keep him company but at the same time don't know how to do anything apart from make endless drinks.  Mum's Mum and brothers have scooted down and they're with her at the moment, the only thing that will pull Mum through this is stubborness, family and some sort of crazy miracle because the chances of survival are so slim we've been told on no account to get our hopes up.  It's cruel, but it's true.  She'll be with us for a couple more days until they remove the assistance and after that we'll just have to see what happens.

Not sure why I'm spilling all this out, it's hardly on topic, but I'm in a place where I don't really know what else to do.  Everyone did everything they could to give Mum the greatest chance of survival and now we can do nothing more, as Dad said earlier it's now in the lap of the Gods as to what happens next.   It's all so incredibly unbearable and I just want to rage at the world about it because my longest standing friend looks set to be taken from me when we still have more adventures to go on.

My thoughts are with you Mr V.  Are there any neighbours/friends you can call on as sounds like you need looking after too.

Support is something we have in abundance, it's quite overwhelming how much of it there is from people who have never met me or even Mum and of course from the huge number of people Mum has made friends with, helped and been kind to.  I don't think any of us realised just quite how far reaching Mum has been socially until now, but spending 6 hours at least just calling as many people as we could to get the word out to all the other people gave us some idea.  If there's any power in prayer and love as a healing force then I'm pretty sure we'll find out over the next few painful days.

Awful news. My thoughts are with you and your family vulgalour.

That's terrible to hear, Angyl. You know where Rob and I are if you need anything.

Do the front discs have a noticeable wear lip on them Richard.

I ask because my own front discs had only a slight wear ridge, and very good almost new pads, but the noise they made even under slight braking you'd think they were down to the bloody metal.

I think its the 124 suspension design, you can feel every single dimple in the road not necessarily hear it, yet still a comfortable ride, its quite strange, and can feel precisely what the brakes are doing too...its part of what i like about the car.

I disliked the noise of the brakes, and got some new Pagid discs/pads, silence instantly reigned, yet the old ones had what,  less than 1/2mm wear ridge and the pads almost new.

By the way with Pagids all round now the brakes are the best i've ever known with this car.

Terrible news - it's hard being helpless in a way and just having to wait, but sounds like you had the paramedics there as soon as possible.

On the subject of discs, I've just checked and there is a noticeable lip all round - about 3mm. Here's a pic.

Think you got your moneys worth out of those Richard.

Sad news Vulg, my thoughts are with you. Been in the waiting for medical outcomes in hospitals before myself, it's a long and worrying time but it can come good. I do hope it does for you.

Angyl, I have no idea whether there is a God or not, but right now, I bloody well hope so.

In other news, hit a bloody great pothole today and the tailpipe on the fronty is swinging in the breeze now. Thought it had been a bit chuffy lately, now it definitely is. Wonder if I can claim for it?

Second news item, I have never been a fan of German cars, never liked the interiors or the hype over them. So why am I spending time reading up about W124's and looking at all the likely places for ideas of price.

Spent a couple of hours this afternoon on a valeting mission. Doesn't scrub up badly for a 35 year old interior.

Really do not know what to say Vulg, except to echo everyone else and send you the best wishes possible.

If my 124 got destroyed tomorrow, i'd seek out a 960/S90 to replace it...not a 60/70 series cos the wrong wheels is driven.

Don't get me wrong 124's are great, and they do take well to LPG so you can have you car/cake and eat/drive it cheaply, but they don't last like an old school Volvo, they have expensive regular faults as well as rust, and they do require expertise and special tools, where old Volvo's can be fixed with a hammer and chisel.

All you can do in this situation is make endless cups of tea and talk.

My thoughts are with you Angyl. Not really sure what else to write except try to get some sleep and spend time with the people who matter in your life.

Angyl I'm afraid I can't add much more to the sentiments, sympathies and best wishes of everyone. We are here when you need us.

Angyl I am stuck for words to write other than reflecting what others have said best wishes for you and your family

Sorry to hear about this Angyl. I can't imagine what you must be going through. The only reason I'm still around is the support of my parents. I really hope and pray your Mum will make it through.

If there is anything I or we here on Autoshite can do, please just say so.
