The new news 24 thread

I've managed to confirm that my Twitter account hasn't been compromised by using another computer, but this computer seems convinced that the security certificate on the Twitter site is unsafe and won't let me on.  I can't find any reference to this problem with other users and I don't have a smaller certificate to hammer over the current one.  Anyone of a technical mind able to help out with this one or experiencing a similar issue?

Quite frustrating, really, as it's my main source of news.  I just don't get how it's gone from being fine this afternoon to not working now.

Is the date OK on the computer?

Security certificates have valid to/from dates, and if your clock is set to 1979 then it'll think there's skulduggery afoot.

I may have accidentally won a pug 405 estate TD on Ebay, no tax or test, very crappy advert and I've got to go to Harrogate to get it. I don't even want it but Meh...

They're great cars, best ride, handling and steering balance of any car I've driven. MEGA-WANT, if it's not horrible.

The 205 is now sat on the ground again after 6 months of levitation, whilst being completely stripped of all rust and rebuilding suspension, steering and rear beam, cleaning, painting and undersealing, as well as a complete brake system replacement.

Scoffing bolognaise and Singha beer whilst letting the suspension settle :D

Happy Days.

I am looking forward to the next couple weeks, getting the new* engine from my 306 in and running.

See you all at Shitefest!

Still can't access Twitter.  Date and time are set to the correct ones, not 30 years in the past, no issues accessing other sites, none of my other accounts compromised, history cleared and computer and router reset several times in various combinations to no effect.  I'm completely baffled by this.

I have given SRS thought to setting up a Corsa specialist place, I'd be like a pig in muck. I managed to save this from scrap this morning, they're like a bloody magnet to me!

Can't be a bad idea surely? There is a Corsa specialist just down the road from where I used to live in Birmingham. Its called the Corsa Centre or something like that.

BTW - Whats your avatar from? I seem to vaguely recognise the fella in the picture.

I think there was a 'Corsa Centre' in Preston - just down the road from Micrashed I think so he'll know for sure.

Anyway I noticed its just a regular used car place now so perhaps there just isn't that much Corsalust in the general public outside Chester or maybe Preston's Corsa Centre satisfied them all so well that they'll never want another car ever again.

I really ought to stop window shopping for Maestros.  I've experienced two very different examples in the form of that badly geared and uncomfortable but surprisingly frugal and competent Ledbury and the quicker, thirstier, more comfortable white 1.6 Auto I borrowed from Skattrd and since then I've wanted another.

Ideal candidate would be an early car with an A series, metal bumpers and no sunroof.  I think I need to have my fun with the 6 when it's sorted to make an informed decision but I reckon I could get on pretty well with a Maestro in my life again and save the Princess for the long distance stuff I bought it for in the first place since that's where it excels as transport.

Taxed, tested, £200.  I can nearly afford this (have to include fuel, imminent MoT/tax costs) do this but I've been told no more cars until I get one moved out, which seems fair given that I currently own three and a third cars at the moment.

Hyundai Accents of that generation are for winnars. I got one for a mate 5 years ago, and she still has it. One stuck caliper freed up and a starter motor is all it's needed.

I absolutely hated my E-reg Maestro 1.6L, which is strange considering I bloody love it's J-reg 1.6 Montego replacement.

Of all the things I've driven, that E-reg Maestro remains the most disappointing. I wanted to love it but it was an absolute bastard.

The engine oil stop leak hasn't made a jot of difference to TV2's rear main seal oil leak. As a consequence, I don't want it any more and am actively looking for a replacement for it.

Made a start doing more work on the red car and was thwarted quite comprehensively by the fact my axle stands, jacks and tools are all in my beige car which is in my brother's garage which I can't undo the padlock of and my brother isn't around to show me the magic trick with the padlock.  Still, I did get the carb off the orange car and the replacement throttle cable in place so not a complete loss.

But surely if the rest of it is good it is worth doing?? You have cared for this like a baby and the cost of repair is probably only equal to a gamble on another?  Are you sure the breather system is nice and clean?

It is only a rear main seal after all.

Finally, my daily driver is on 16"-summertires now:

Drives better and looks a lot better compared to the 15" winter-tires. I like it! 8)

Got the other job, nice extra 16- 32 hours per week./

Completely ad libbed the whole interview and his opening question which I don't know why I wasn't expecting tbh was "Why did you leave us in the first place" haha naughty question.

if you end up breaking it would be interested in some bits

I'm finding it pretty hard to drive any of my cars at the moment. This is horrible. Stupid foot. I may well be on the lookout for an automatic in the near future. Problem is, the Sirion probably has to go to allow space on the fleet. DO NOT LIKE.

Yes. Neil Campbell of Practical Classics owned one until his wife crashed it. Apparently, not that awful.

I'm actually looking at letting another autoshitter get it instead, I've got buyers remorse!

I have just agreed to buy some new shite.

It's not my fault - Breadman made me do it, then ran away.

I have done 1600 miles in the 405 in the last week. It still makes me grin driving it.

The car had a bit of a hesitation when pressing on so i changed the fuel filter. Mpg went from 38 to 47 and pulls alot better. I love simple fixes.

Apart from that the low coolant light seems to randomly come on even though it is full.
