Car looks great on those wheels! TSport from memory was the version fitted with the 190 bhp 2zz engine as opposed to the 140bhp 1zz normal ones came with.

I only know this as someone who fitted a 2zz into an MR2 but I killed a Corolla TSport to build it, not a Celica.

Yup, 190 model. Engine is available, but given the running issues and mileage would probably need work....

I completely forgot you owned that! I remember when Wobbler owned it. They are renowned for rot though, be interesting to see how the rear chassis has fared with all those years parked on grass.

Mine has 10X the amount of rust in it than I expected. Inner front wings need doing has turned in to front floors, bulkhead and rear inner wheel arches, so far.

The Chevy has felt weird to drive but I never found out why...

Then in the space of a couple of months and not many miles, a legal tyre became this..

IMG_3298.jpeg.b538aea33efb615b54807531359339d5.jpeg

That wore fast...

IMG_3300.jpeg.a958d43423892cb729d87dd7a22b76eb.jpeg

And apparently, more on the opposite side?!

IMG_3302.jpeg.a0e98ef6059b4233dfcc6e81b7b36f66.jpeg

Pretty sure that's why it felt odd, but scarily, I'd somehow only seen the bit with tread when I looked before and it was booked in for four new tyres anyway because one was losing pressure and they're all shit brands.

This is. Was. A Landsail. I can only assume the canvas inside is failing as I can't see or feel anything up with the wheel or hub!

Crikey... Looks like some pretty epic scrubbing going on there?

It's a back wheel on a beam axle!

The car's felt like a wheel was loose for a while and I think this must be what happens when a tyre gets twisted on a rim, or it has a bent wheel, but the way it's all worn on the outside but half is more worn on the same edge is remarkable. And it was doing it in August, when I had both back wheels off to replace the dampers, and there was nothing obviously wrong or illegal then - maybe 700-1200 miles ago but I haven't been able to do much with cars since October due to pain - so GF's been driving it, mentioning it feels odd, I shine a torch at the wheel and shake it, try it, think it's bushes or something.

I have had a twisted tyre on a Capri but it felt more like an out of balance wheel. This must have been squirming in harmonics 😂

Aren't they another one of those engines which aren't actually any quicker than the lower powered version unless you rev them to 9,000rpm?

Apparently so, not desperately useful/sensible in day-to-day driving....

They have effectively the same power curve as the 1zz until they get to 6k rpm when the second set of valve timing kicks in and they scream around to 8200rpm.

Not everyones cup of tea in a road car of course but in an MR2 used on track fuck me it's addictive

Still quite a useful day to day car, with the huge tailgate, fold down seats and friendly gearing that means you can effortlessly bimble around in silence carrying furniture when you want to, and get 40 odd mpg doing it.

Then, when you get bored ,screaming up a sliproad or away from lights, keeping it in lift at each shift, tremendously enjoyable and satisfying.

We're on our third gen 7.

No problems with wheel balancing or other issues...

IMG_3308.jpeg.a399a5becd36eb3a313df327e1d606a9.jpeg

Other than abject shaming

IMG_3307.jpeg.aa50bc14f3831a8d5b14f4e52c57db0c.jpeg

Inside the old tyre had no signs of problems, the canvas had just delaminated and warped and the tyre probably reached that state in tens, not hundreds of miles.

2019 date coded Landsail.

It now has four Kumho Ecowings and feels much, much nicer obviously. Noisy buggers though.

Visually stunning, and very rare to see. Also pictured; the Northern Lights.

I know that January 2028 seems like a heck of a long way away for calendar shots, but I think that is super cool.

What do you do with a 1500quid snotter that has done 163k miles and has a lot of potential to go bang?

Naturally to do what @sierraman would recommend and spend £700 on new springs, shocks and arms for the rear end on a 20yr old premium German car.

Not sure I can feel much difference to be honest 😂

Rear end definitely higher though.

BMW E9x 3-series are prone to rotting out the rear top mounts as they age and ejecting through into the boot. It was the garage that recommended at the last MOT to have the changed. The rest were "while you are there jobs" I said might as well get done....

But I still like the car, does everything I want in a car and in a few months will have had it for 2 years. So why not put two months of a nominal car payment into it and make it drive better? Also apparently the garage had a lot of fun* with usual issues of seized bolts and certainly a job I wouldn't want to do on my drive.
