I was invited by a friend to go to a big VW rally. Supposedly it is open to all VAG group cars, not just VWs and my green Favorit is a mk2 so post VW takeover. And of course it has a Polo GTI engine. Still didn't think it would attract any other Škodas and I was very nearly right but it was a cheap day out so why not.

I decided my challenge would be to find original standard cars. Seeing as I turned up in a lowered, stiffened Favorit with a Polo engine and big black shiny wheels this was more than a bit hypocritical but hey ho. Obviously the Dub Scene is renowned for doing stupid things so original cars were very thin on the ground. Here's a few.

Okay, so the wheels aren't standard but I don't ever remember seeing one of these before and it was very nice

This was our little corner, the Audi 80 and Up! belong to friends of mine. The Up! is standard and the Audi is almost but not quite.

This would have been nice but for the bloody surfboard. Nobody needs a surfboard in Oxfordshire. But at least there was no Yo Stance going on.

IMG_20220626_134557.thumb.jpg.bcdec4a6500df65ab25ae7f0ea489002.jpg

Again not quite standard but I still liked it.

Proper original this one.

Beige and standard apart from the wheels.

And in the car park, at last another Škoda. Fabia Scout!

IMG_20220626_120646.thumb.jpg.fbeba694980e2cf454878222df30f39e.jpg

And this to me was car of the show. Absolutely mint, original Lupo GTI.

There were a few hundred cars and vans there and this was the best I could come up with. The rest were all ridiculous. This Variant sums it up as he crawled along at about 3mph trying to avoid the bigger blades of grass.

It was a very nice setting though, Stonor Park, Oxfordshire. Still a nice day out despite most of it really not being my thing.

This is the biggest thing that bugs me about the folks that hover around the VW scene.

Virtually everyone I've spoken to in the outside world when discussing the Caddy they inevitably tell me I need to slam it, then fit 20" wheels with stretch tyres to it.

Sorry...no, that ain't going to happen.  If anything is going to happen to the suspension it will be to fit softer shock absorbers...if alloys ever go near it, they'll be OEM VW ones which could have been on it from new (and according to the build sheet it did originally have alloy wheels), not some modern monstrosity that would look more in place on a monster truck.

Any more of that Type 2 - can't quite make out if the reg starts LJK or not? 3 parents of friends had locally registered T2's when I was in my early teens so I might have been in that one back in the day.

I think it's LJK 898L. It belongs to the same guy with the Audi 80. I think he's probably had it about 8 years, it could even be 10, I have no real concept of time any more. Can't remember where he got it from. Is JK a London reg? It sounds a bit like it. I know JD is.

Don't like the wheels on it, but I do like a Fabia Scout. :)

A Škoda Fabia that AnnoyingPentium likes.  Now there's something you don't* see every day.

Thanks. JK & HC were Eastbourne reg's at that time. I might have a period pic on a slide...somewhere

Bear in mind I've had a tidy S3 XJ, that was more than a good Del Sol.

Also, Del Sols are based on the EG chassis which I actively dislike.

You're not far wrong, mind.

Is that an Accent on those words?

Right, I'm off to listen to a Concerto.

Could smell petrol from rear of Sierra over the last couple of days. Had a look today and fuel filter leaking. Think it must be the original-had the car 22 years and haven't changed it. Luckily had a new one with washers I bought "a few" years ago to change. Petrol didn't look to clever out of the old one.

Fun fact...the hedge trimmer runs way better when the fuel in the tank isn't three years old...oops.

What came out was opaque, grey and lumpy.

Thought I'd drained everything at the end of the season last year but apparently missed this (likely because it only got used once).  My arms and back however are now utterly knackered...I really need to make a sling to take the bulk of the weight when I'm using it.

Had a few pence for my  birthday so went and bought this thing, as I want to clean the seats mainly in the galaxy, missus has some dubious stains in her seat leon and i need few bits at home.

Anyone used one before?

I've got the battery version of that for cleaning bird shit off the carpet and it's fairly good. Lacks in the suction department due to being battery powered which makes it shit for upholstery, but yours being mains powered will solve that!

Mine had a new hose after 7 months though as it perished. Vax have shit build quality so make sure the warranty is live and you should be good! Don't pick up anything foamy, as the foam whips through the float valve and into the motor. You can buy 5l of generic carpet cleaner chemical from ebay when your vax stuff runs out, but don't use washing up liquid or etc.
