That Daimler is something else. Plusher (and a bit quicker) than the 2.4 XK as well IIRC.

Lovely.

In Volvo calliper news I've finally got one coming in the post after my local garage gave up trying to get one. Their suppliers have stopped doing exchanges on them and only do refurbishment now.

Sad times Lukas, at least no injuries is the upside.

Moar Ambassador news, the exhaust is now off despite me headbutting the rear towing cradle (twice)

Also took a nice picture of the Metro on the driveway (well I like it)

Gave the Micra a bit of a clean, it could do with a more thorough scrubbing but it's miles better than it was anyway. It's quite a fun thing to drive and seems mega-economical, but it'll be surplus to requirements soon so might be up for grabs. Anyone fancy it?

The Escort now has a radio and I've binned most of the crap in the boot, which contained the 'old one' of every part replaced on it ever.

NU TAT collection on Saturday, all being well.

Allegro clutch master cylinder is now holding its fluid and working nicely. Only got to source some decent wiper blades and change the grease nipples on the swivel hubs now.

Recently spotted some sort of Subaru(?) E-reg pick-up with hay bales in the back (no picture sadly as it whizzed past me in a second) and an old Fiat Uno or Panda.

Moving house soon. Need a van, rather than renting one I feel I need to purchase something suitably shite to impress the new neighbours.

Anyone have anything?

Sent from my Nokia 3310 using the force.

Isn't it annoying that exhaust heat shields suffer bimetallic corrosion and fall off?

My wife has been nagging me since I met her 14 years ago to get a bloody camper van.

Well after looking for ages and making up excuses not to buy one I found a little gem this weekend in North Wales which even I couldn't pass.

It's a Scene Tax'd VW T25 with pop top. Collecting it on Saturday.

I don't mind the look of the T25 and would really like a syncro one, but depending on the motor they can be incredibly slow.

Posted

They can, but with the right motor they're very quick. And as a bonus if you Do It Right, there's some rusty import WRX getting bridged too (the two litre boxer can be fitted with off-the-shelf mounts and adaptor plates).

I was offered a GL spec minibus for very little coin ages ago, just had nowhere for it. I think it went on eBay and fetched twice as much as I was going to get it for - good for the seller who probably made a mental note not to offer cars for sale when drunk, bad for me. It was that nice two tone blue, stock height (GASP!), steel wheels, standard trim with all the seats. I'd also seriously consider a crew cab syncro in the same condition, that is the holy grail to me.

T3/T25s seem to be the middle ground between Type2s which are priced out of all sensible thought (saw a rusty - and I mean rusty in the way that lets you check road conditions from the drivers seat by looking between your feet - late bay window for £4500 in the summer) and T4s which are inevitably ex-AA, been parked on a beach for months on end, no maintenance with a jizz-stained mattress in the back. And priced like you'd expect when the owner is rather fond of recreational drugs.

Will do.

Got the Xjr back from getting some paint done. I need to put the stripe on, replace a tyre and an arb bush and I'm going to put it up for sale again along with the a3.

I then need to decide if I sell the sd1 or keep it. If I sell it I'll have a pretty healthy war chest to get something that doesn't need much tinkering to enjoy and a longer term project for me to tick away on. Either that or spend some money getting the sd1 going right even if it means a slightly less ambitious v8 conversion.

Getting red Princess fired up is definitely not going to be the last job of 2013, instead it will be the first job of 2014.  Hopefully it'll all go well and set me up for the year as I'd like to go on.  Aiming to have it fully road legal by February, there appears to be very little left to do on it now.

Really looking forward to getting stuck in on the Renault 6 when I get chance.  Although info is pretty scarce out there, I have found there's a chance it already has a galvanised chassis, I shan't know for definite until we get a look but from what little I can find online it seems the facelift models got a better chassis.

For other 2014 news, I've been given another automotive artwork opportunity after floating an idea to tie in with the restoration business I'd already mentioned.  This means I should be able to produce more images with a view to making sales rather than just for fun and will hopefully boost my income.  Recent feedback has given me a bit more confidence with the old artwork thing, and it feels good to be getting some control back over my work so here's hoping 2014 is better for me than recent years have been.

Not sure if the later ones are galvanised but even so even the later ones can rot at an impressive pace. Stick a thread up on renault4.co.uk as the forum covers all R4 derivatives and there's a lot of info on there and a couple of other R6s as well.

As 2013 draws to a close, let's bear in mind the passing in July this year of the artist Alex Colville, without whose work this forum would be all the less expressive.

Hey nice one M'coli, i didn't even know the guy's name but that picture has had a lot of mileage on here, to the extent that it seems a bit like 'part of the furniture'. RIP horse train artist guy, and thanks very much for the picture!

Is the transit for sale that was mentioned yesterday? We are moving in the new year and SWMBO didn't completely rule out the possibility of buying a van and selling it on once we're straight. I've always wanted a van and this seems the best excuse I'm ever likely to have, as I have no use for a can in real life.

It is indeed. Will send you a PM. that was my plan, buy it, move house, then sell what I paid for it.

Xantia has started to making a squeaking from the front right wheel. I am hoping it is just a sticky caliper. I put new discs on about 3 months ago and they are already juddering.

Also needs a full service as I have only checked levels since buying it from Ruffgeezer. Orange water in diesel filter light is now coming on,but the filter housing has been silicon sealed so will need to take it all to bits. Seeing as it has done 5k in that time I think it deserves it :-)

They eliminated the water in diesel warning on later models as they were always giving false alarms.

Mine did a few times until it was disabled.

Cortina headlamp panel should be on its way, so should be able to get that welded on pretty soon.

Then its just to grind down welds on various other repairs, filler, bash out various dents, primer, shite paint job until summer and job's a good un'.

Tempted to start work on the rotten 340 tomorrow, just cut out rot and see what I'm really looking at, so far it looks pretty bad, but I like a challenge and it'll certainly improve my bodywork skills. Repair panels are also few and far between so I reckon I'm going to have to fabricate two new rear wheel tubs, not a hard job as such just alot of welding since I won't be able to spot weld them.

Just got back from spending New years in the midlands and grabbed a few photos of the scimitar while I was at it.

The First two photos were taken at the former Bean Industries works, Bean produced cars and light commercial vehicles until 1931 when they became a parts maker, a few years later they became part of British Leyland. After the sell of in 1988 they owned Reliant until 1994 When Haynes took the company on. Beans folded in 2005 after the collapse of MG Rover. The works pictured below were originally built as vehicle production sheds. The sign reads Bean ____ Commercial Vehicles.

This website has a bit of history on bean If you've not heard of them: http://www.historywebsite.co.uk/Museum/Transport/Cars/Bean/Cars.htm

These next few were taken round the corner from Beans.
