 /\ holly shit that's steep

I got solicitor to raise rent for me 2 letters to tenant with return stamped addressed envelope.

they then sent me a copy with the bill of  £40 bar

wonder if that's the north south divide phenomena

Maybe this should go in the stupid question amnesty thread, but what does it actually feel like to drive with the freewheel thingy?

On my old Trabbi, which only had a freewheel on top, forth gear, it just felt like de-clutching.

It was bizarre,

At low revs, in low gears

The two stroke, tried to four stroke

Which felt like it was running as rough as fuck

But as it speeded up

It smoothed out something lovely

Dropped it into top at 40 kmph, smooth as a smooth thing

...and somehow,it would slip effortlessly between 3 & 4 without using the

Clutch, but i cant remember how.

Not really something to aspire to though

The car, on balance was shite.

I would sooner crash in a damp cardboard box.

As always 2 little spots of rust on the Jag ended up with me painting and relaquering both quarters. Result is it looks shit so I spoke to my mate who's a painter and asked how much. 20 quid + paint.

Oh, okay then remind me why I didn't get him to do it in the first place. It also means the arches will get tidied at the same time.

I'm giving very serious thought to selling the 2CV. This bothers me greatly but it needs a metric shitload of work doing to it and I have absolutely no money. T&T up in March so perhaps better to sell while it has some?

It's like getting rid of a favourite pet though. I've owned it since 2000 and have never not owned a 2CV since 1996. The other option is to cash the tax in, stash her in the garage and pretend I'll be rich one day. This doesn't seem a very sensible option.

The Discovery, thirsty as it is, has more advantages. It's the only car we've got that tows for a start - handy when you own a trailer. It also won't need an MOT until September. I still reckon that'll be next out the door though - I'll just line-up a more sensible replacement for it. Like a Subaru Forester or something.

I really fancy a Disco. I'll start saving just in case...

Looks like I've swapped my 5 series for an Audi A3. It's a 52 plate 1.8 NA. I've no interest in it what so ever but I recon I should sell it easier than my BMW. It's a nice car though and has a stonking cream recaro interior.

Ok on the triple, the V4's a 4-stroke.

I haven't got any yet. It's a blue 3 door with about 100,000 miles on it.

Anybody had any experience with the Seat Arosa?

Someone was talking positively about them on here very recently. Seem to have a good rep. Probably has the sort of refinement my Sirion doesn't.

I've got one,a 1.0 for 17 year old insurability . In a recent 2 day OMGMOTEverythingquick frenzy, it was the only one of the 5 that needed nothing doing and it was the oldest and cost less than 2 tyres on my daily. In three years all it's needed was a bodge repair on the wiper linkage. It's loads nicer to drive than a 59 plate Fiat 500 it shares drive space with, a bit slow but cruises on the motorway at 70/80 like a car twice the capacity.

A million times nicer than Ka's or nasty three pot Corsa's we've had for first cars that's for sure.

Exactly what i was hoping to hear. Just bought a 1.0 off eBay for my first car. Haven't seen it in the flesh yet mind so it has the potential to be a dog but at £350 i think i've got a bargain. It's a 2003 in "S" spec.

I'm getting bored of the XM I think. Been looking at Mondeos and ZXs for the last hour and fancy a change!

Bad point is the xm has another water leak, so need to replace the pipe, which I should have done when I got the new pipe in the summer, but my bodge held up well and I didn't bother. Sadly it's failed in a different place!

Fucksticks, still, goes about 200 miles between topups!

calling wobbler san - sensible daily alert :D

Replace pipe or carry more water?  Well since the XM is such a big car it makes more sense to carry more water, fixing it is probably impossible because the engine bay was designed by the French.

To get to the pipe the air intake pipe and some turbo pipe have to come out. I can't see where they join to lift them out (although I was hungover to fuck this morning when I had a look)

10 litres of water are happily sitting in the rear footwells!

It leaked when it was full of heavy boxes and I was caning it home the back way, it was dropping 2 gears for some hills. However all the weight made it waft beautifully, far better than it does when empty. I might fill the boot with breeze blocks and drive it like that from now on

Look on the bright side,  you haven't found the leaky pipe while halfway through changing a perfectly servicable timing belt and water pump that you thought was leaking.

Oh hey, I don't think my valve stem seals needed doing after all.  There's no longer a cloud of smoke when I reverse.  I'll get someone I know to follow me down the road so they can tell me if there's smoke when I change gear like there used to be.  That blown head gasket may have been the source of the weird smoke clouds after all.

Goes without saying that these are just VW Lupos with a different front bumper and lights.

I've got a 1.0 lupo, i've had it eight years. It was tediously reliable, the only thing it ever needed was a back box (original one from the factory, rotted after ten years) and a clutch, but only because my thick bitch ex used the ride the clutch every where and killed the release bearing.

Aside from that it was a brilliant little car, and i almost feel guilty for leaving it on the drive for two years but cortinas are just more fun to drive.

Thanks for the info everyone. Not the most exciting of cars and i was going to buy something older but that can come later. It seems like an honest motor, got a lot of service history.

You shouldn't go wrong with one........i've just remembered drivers door locks go fucked, but you can get repair kits cheap. This will be a handy site for you tech wise, http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/

Just stay away from the nitrmors and pineapples :-D
