Initial lack of interest and a bit of actual research persuaded me that I had been a little over-ambitious with regard to the value of my 306, so I've dropped the starting price on the eBay listing to £300.

Thought I would mention it here, just in case anyone was potentially interested in the car but thought my original asking price was a bit 'salty'.

You going vehicle transport then? A thankless task in my experience, but my short stint at it did have some good moments. Namely that I got to places as far flung as Wrexham, Cornwall, Kent and Newcastle driving a ropey old Leyland DAF 400 beavertail and the only problem I had with it was when the exhaust fell off - which made no difference at all to the sound levels.

Among other things, yep - fully aware of the shortcomings, but you have to give these things a try.

Sounds similar to mag writing then

And cue 'mates' ringing you at 2.00am on Sunday insisting you drive 45 miles to collect them and their car for a tenner.

Two Land Rovers in the yard and access to tractors, flatbeds and low loaders means that unfortunately that won't be a new experience!

Yes, sorry about that and almost running us both over with that blue Allegro with no brakes.

Don't remind me of that 'clever' idea of mine! That was a very long day (it was also when the exhaust fell off on my way home!)

Insurance renewal received for the Scirocco, Direct Line £159 comp £250xs.

Can apparently get it for £96 with various Lloyd's syndicates but would rather have some chance of being paid out.

Lad at work is buying a '58 plate saab estate 1.9 turdblower.

He was going to ebay his current 406 (R-reg 2.1td, 108k quite tidy) but reckons he's been offered £1500 by an exporter.....does that sound plausible, seems a lot for a 15 year old pug.

Sounds plausible if the exporter offer came from Nigeria, and included instructions to 'send me yoor details of bank account and I will pay u by transfer. Pleez send money gram for £200000 as. I need to verify you. Am honest'

I was off work today, so I decided to brave the grim, drizzly weather and finish off the MoT jobs on the 'hairdresser special' :

Needless to say, there are better ways to spend a day off : all my muscles are now hurting and I'm covered in a disgusting mixture of mud, rust flakes, WD40 and pigeon poo. On the plus side, I got to hammer various smaller things over slightly larger things and the car is now ready for it's re-test, which is booked for tomorrow. Fingers crossed...

Beta #2 (HPE VX) passed the MOT today with no advisories, all it needed was a side indicator bulb and the headlights adjusting.

I'm now thinking I may sell it. It's a bit too nice for me, plus I prefer driving the Spider. Anyone interested pm me.

I've got a serious hankering for a BX again. I've found one I like too. Have had a couple of people express an interest in viewing the Golf, so I hope that turns into actual viewing and actual sale. The desire to own a Citroen GSA is still there as well though, but given how readily they corrode, perhaps I should leave that one as a 'desire' rather than reality.

For maximum profit potential, don't forget to get yourself to Waitrose so you can buy the best quality Pineapple.

And in other exciting news, the Porsche broke down a bit on the wife's journey to work.

Well, the wiper linkage fell apart causing the drivers side one to pack up.

Fine woman that she is, she managed to limp it into the work car-park.

RAC attended and bodged it back together,

I rang Mr Porsche specialist, where it's going for a quarter of a million mile service next week

and he said, 'ah yes, they're all like that sir'

Apparently  the linkage always fails the same way.

My sister works for a large Fiat dealership and just sent me these photos of a Fiat 500 she's sold, does anyone fancy taking a guess at the price without Googling?.

That's a Ferrari edition one or something isn't it. It's got to be north of 20 grand?

I would say closer to 30k I will say £28999.99 I take it this is to get average emissions down same as the aston toyota cignet thingy.

Good guess, It sold for £29800, It's a Abarth 695 Ferrari Edition with a tuned 1.4 turbo pushing 180bhp, Crazy money, a older chap as bought it to store in his garage as an investment...

Took the Cavalier for MOT today, joking that the test would take 1 hour but the write-out of the fail sheet would take longer - considering it was pushed into front-line duty during the worst of the winter weather tramping up and down the country to deal with family matters that arose in January and continued on for some time as well as communting 38 miles a day, icluding besting an Audi TT in 4-5 inch deep snow at half-6 in the morning, I expected it to be a steel doily underneath.  I know it has a rotten sill - indeed the gaffer tape has kept the rain and salt out of it since January, but I was expecting lots wrong including front brake imbalance (it scraped through last year but has had new pads & discs )with it despite it feeling great to drive after the 205 (other than it's far slower in a straight line), but otherwise...

O Hai Hillman Imp weldr part bak pleez K thx bai...!

Madness ! Surely, for that kind of money an Interceptor plus an SM would be a better investment than a chavvy little Fiat !

It's incredible how some cars just refuse to die, whatever you put them through!!

*edit* Cavalier reference, obv ;-)

Blimey. I wonder if it will pan out as a good investment. I can’t see it myself but you never know I suppose. Still fair play to the lad, it takes fairly serious plums to sink £30k into one of those, and I guess putting the 30k in the bank is a pretty crap investment as well. Plus presumably he’ll need to store it well, which rarely comes cheap unless he already owns a suitable building that’s doing nowt. It looks like a flipping reebok trainer BTW.

My mate’s mrs has got a super soft-top one of these 500’s, its black and mega snazzy with big fat wheels. She had to wait about 8 months for it to be delivered despite the leadtime when she ordered it being about 2 months, the sales crew obv knew how desperately she wanted it so gave her any old flam when she rang up to see what was going on with it. Now she’s bricking it about the zillions of miles she’s unexpectedly doing for her job, she must have it on some finance deal and is likely to get a ‘financial spit-roasting’ at the end if she’s gone over a certain mileage in it. Sounds like a shitload of grief to me, spesh if every mile you drive in it is a source of worry for the future, you’re not even going to enjoy driving it are you.

How can you dare driving around with a deteriorated front number plate?

That's just irresponsible. A disgrace. You are a menace for all kittens and nuns.

The thing is if you put 30k in the bank then atleast it will still be there in 30 years

How many 30 year old cars have made decent money ie more than banking the purchase price 30 years ago. I bet its not many

Don't want to seem like a dick but is the little Fiat bader boxed?

I can't see a likely lever.
