That Buick is highly desirable.

Pity that they were never made in RHD form. IIRC, a few were sold by Vauxhall dealers in LHD form in the early 1990s, though.

It'll depend whether it's cam chain or bottom end on this one. AA report (from when the owner broke down in it) said 'cylinder head gasket and engine knocking. Requires new engine or rebuild.' So it's probably shagged.

We've got an engine crane and shit if it comes to it, but we might just break it for parts or something if we have to.

Big ups to Volksy who came round yesterday to help me put the door back on the GT6 but ended up staying all day trying to sort out the electrics.

We are nearly there. Just need to get the o/s sidelight, the main beam and the horn working now. Off out again now (after a spam and egg sarnie) to finish the welding as have found a hole.

We're getting a Nissan Leaf at work for a week for us to try out. I recon I'll try to bring it home from work and see if my arse is tweeking at the end of a 60 mile round trip.

 my new daily-driver. It´s a 2007 Mazda 6 Sport Estate 2.0i with automatic transmission.

Nice. I had an '06 Mazda 6 Sport 2.0i as a company car in 2008, did about 40k in a year and really liked that car. I'd definately have another.

Also, think of all the new friends you'll be meeting at the petrol stations :)

Now looks like this:

Have made a bit of a pigs ear of the lip on the arch as had to cut it and hammer it out to get the welder and grinder in behind it. but its not too bad. Welding was near impossible as despite it not seeming to be windy at all yesterday, every time I pressed the trigger on the welder a force 9 gale suddenly came from nowhere and blew away the gas. Really looking forward to moving, hopefully to a house with a double garage for maximum tat repair space.

That's all the welding done now on the GT6 before I chuck it in for its MOT. Just need to sort out a couple of electrical gremlins and I think it might stand a chance of nearly passing.

I scored a set of 18" m-parallel replicas for 80 quid. All the tyres are shagged though.

Today I did an engine flush and oil change on the 416. It ran nice and quiet for about 10 minutes and then started getting tappetty again, WTF? Hopefully just needs topping up. The seller told me a recent oil change had been done, but the colour of what came out tells me he was talking cock. I also gave it a wash and put autoglym bumper care on the typically faded R8 bumpers so it's looking a lot better.

For the oil change i went for the lazy approach and used one of those vacuum pump things and it does make it a neater job, no need to jack the car up either if you can get to the filter from the top. It cost 40 quid but was a necessity last month when I couldn't get the bloody sump bolt off the Sierra.

Do those vacuum pump things get all the oil out, or just most of it?

I need to service the Touran soon, and in my experience VAG sumps tend to act a bit like cream cheese when you start putting the plug back in. I really don't want to fook up SWMBO's daily.

Took MA_STERLING's Micra in for its MOT today, it failed on corrosion on the drivers side sill, the corroded hole in the sill that I looked at 'some time back' got bigger, enough for a fail, but on the upside to this, the garage has given me a Rover 25 for Ma to drive. I really hope she likes it, she is a picky lady :|

Was supposed to drive a Bentley Continental with failed power steering too but that didn't happen due to an over zealous mechanic. :(

Most of it I'd say as it took 4 litres out and the dipstick was on minimum, capacity 4.5 with filter. Also it's clean and quick, which will encourage me to do more frequent changes as I put the Sierra one off for ages.

That sounds handy, though I'd probably be tempted just to crack the sump nut at least, or it really will weld itself in place. Try as I might, I'm yet to perform an oil change without getting oil all over me and the driveway! Lots of cardboard has improved matters, but it's still a mucky job.

I suspect that there's a little bit more of the old oil left in the engine if one uses a vacuum pump rather than the traditional sump plug method. However, it probably makes sod all difference to the longevity of the engine.

An interesting bit of trivia is that early MCC Smarts did not actually have a sump plug, so the only way to change the oil is to use a vacuum pump.

Vac pumping the sump doesn't get all the crud that collects at the bottom  - it gets hard and thicker......just get under the bloody thing and drain it properly - engine piping hot etc.

There is that yes. I won't stop doing proper changes altogether as there's no substitute for a good old sump drain, but if you're feeling lazy like I often am it's the next best thing!

A bloke in a garage I used to call at said he'd never suck the oil up through the top as it's drag all the shit up with it. No idea if that's true but I'd prefer to drain from the sump myself. On a Mk3 Astra I had that hadn't been serviced probably since the day it was new, it rattled quite a bit but two or three oil changes did the trick.

Transit carries on doing a sterling job, yesterday we helped a friend do her drive and the van was a God send.

Bad news: One of the Corsas has left the fleet.

I bought this, although as yet I'm not sure if here or the grumpy thread is the correct one:

Fronteras rule. Ask anyone who was at Shitefest. Possibly excluding the owner who seemed less impressed than the rest of us.

I particularly enjoy* the gold Honda badge and exhaust cap option thats on the car, which according to the original sales brochure that came with the car "reinforces your own sense of taste and idividuality"

Almost full history, 12 months MOT and 4 months tax, all for the princely sum of £800, leaving me £100 notes out of the payout from the insurance money from my pickups knock.

On a sadder note the Brava is going to have a OMGHMG strapped to the back of it in Somalialand tomorrow, shes done stirling service for the past 7 years without missing a beat while slowly going seveal different shades of pink.

Oh yeah, theres me banging on about how much I enjoyed the Rover 25 and I forgot.....

I pulled into some run-down Shell station in Kingsheath, whilst taking some pics of some old rammle, some fella asked me if I could help him push his Black Lancia Beta Coupe as it needed a bump start. I think he'd just bought it. I did take a pic which'll be included in the next chapter of my spots if I can ever be arsed to get around to it.

Not really car related but in true Autoshite manner - moved the caravan yesterday after it had been sat for 4 years to a new site a couple of miles away.

Did I check the tyre pressures?

Did I bother about the seized on brake?

Did I bother to empty the on board tanks?

Did I fuck. The C8 hauled its arse up a very steep hill and then shoved it into its new home, where if the fees dont go silly there it will stay for a few years...

Bit of a twat to level out, but more or less sorted now. Brake & wheel hot by the end of its journey so thats something to look at next summer perhaps.

You on a seasonal pitch somewhere, M? We'd looked in to that as static caravan charges are an absolute disgrace.

Oh yes indeedy - Ive chatted to Mat about it over on BXP on the bollocks thread if you want any more details. We thought about a static, but given they have you by the short and curlies site fee wise we decided to stay with the tourer pitched up all year - we have the lad sleeping in the awning in his own tent and we have a sofa (freecycle) and microwave out in the awning too.

If the site owners get greedy we just up sticks and fuck off. If needed I can shove it on the garden for a while.

Nice one, where have you parked it up and what are the fees like please?

I have an amount of money in the bank. As it happens, this amount of money is exactly how much it will cost to repair the HL and have a call-out from a local garage to pump up both cars. I don't know if this is a grin or a grump, in all honesty.
