Crap ride? That's me out then.

Frustration is the main theme of my fleet. The BX is still awaiting a service, which requires me to buy an new oil filter wrench. The Disco is away for its timing belt job, but that hasn't been started yet. After two days. The Merc is still not sold. The 2CV is ok though. Due to Merc sale fail, I do not own a knackered Ambassador. The Ferrero Rocher order has been cancelled.

I spent some time on the Saab tonight. The roof was only half going up, which I found was one half of cover not setting a switch. I bent the switch up, which made it engage and the roof closed but then didn't disengage properly, tried to go down and snapped one of flaps off the cover. It'll glue back on. Anyway I know the roof pretty much works and I think a lot of the problems will be resolved when I replace the shear pin in the cover uj. Bloody hell these roofs are complex.

I also started to knock out the dents in the drivers door after removing loads of previous inch thick filler. Its much better but I think I'm going to tack metal strips on and use these to pull some of the dents out then reapply glen miller.

I will be collecting this Audi S4 in a couple of weeks. Not much to look at but one of my favourite "Q" cars.

That Civic is ace Trig. I was thinking with that and the Alto you must be compensating for having such a large penis but then I remembered the Cortina so you are probably about average.

And just seen our post Skattrd. The next car is already here (and has been for a while). I need to get the GT6 sorted to release finds for the Imp but if anything interesting that we can tart up and sell on for a good profit - whilst having the joy of using it in the meantime - turns up then hell I will give it a punt.

S4.. Good effort. Especially in the one true colour.

New (to me) standard leather steering wheel arrived for the Golf today.  These normally go for £50-70 on eBay (they're shared with the Mk2 Golf GTi and the Corrado) and I'm too mean to bid that high, so was rather surprised to win this one for a tenner plus postage.

It's in reasonable nick, certainly good for the money and miles better than the original, which is badly ripped and has been eaten by moss - but would benefit from a bit of refurb though.

Anyone recommend a leather restoring gunk suitable for steering wheels?

My Focus is disgracing itself as usual - after spending a few quid on it, it's still driving rather crap, with added blue smoke and a binding rear brake. The M.o.T is up on July 7th and the tax is out the end of the month so I predict some weighbridge action very soon.

Anyone got a ultra-cheap (sub £500) medium-sized car with a bit of tax and test going? I can go a fair way from base (Norfolk) so distance ain't an issue...

After spending a towering £6.50 to get the rear wheels of my Rover balanced, it no longer vibrates the fillings out of my teeth when I drive faster than 58.3 mph.

Highly recommended.

Blimey,  I've got one of these in the shed - I took it off and put a plastic one on cos it smelled, it's actually in pretty good nick.

I'd only kept it to put on my van when it gets painted, might avoid covering it in overspray now!

Went to the Renishaw Hall show and was allowed in!  Better yet, I got to park within spitting distance of the big house rather than being stuffed under a tree in the back field.  Only problem is that I appear to have taken 400 photographs and it's taken me an absolute age going through them all.  There was such a variety of cars and bikes on show I barely knew where to start so I just sort of went a bit trigger-happy.

The Princess didn't ruffle as many feathers as it attracted admiring remarks.  Many comments about how they were rubbish but supremely comfortable and practically everyone knew someone who had one, or had been forced to own one as a company car.  On the whole, it was a car remembered with fondness by many and more so for mine looking just how everyone remembered them back in the day.  I feel quite proud to have put so many smiles on so many faces with my shonky old wedge.

I'll post pictures eventually, but not all 400 hundred of them, that would be mean.  How the hell did I get up to 400 pictures?  Need to learn some self control.

See, it just goes to show that if you hang on to shit long enough it really does come into value one day.

Poorboys Leather Conditioner is decent, but it needs a few coats before it starts to work.

Eeerm, you know what I mean.

Thanks Wat.  Is shoe polish a bad idea, then?

Today i learnt that when driving a Reliant down a single track country road, and some posh horsey blonde in a rangerover is coming the other way, oblivious to anything going on,that its great fun to shout at her as she stops dead in the road, that i havent got reverse gear, and to make her reverse all the way back to let me past :-)

Discovered today that The Volvo's MOT ran out three days ago, just before I was going to drive it to the shops. I thought that it was valid until the 20th

To this end, I have booked it in for another one next Friday, which will give me enough time between working and sleeping to clean it and check it over before I submit it. I intend to get the garage to change the cambelt and auxilary belts at the same time

Makes me glad that I have two cars at my disposal...

They might get upset if I tell them its a classic Yank car.

Strictly speaking, it's even a pre-war model!

Discovery still awaiting timing belt attention. Mind you, the weather has been foul this week, so I'd be no closer to having it sorted if I had decided to do it myself. Annoying though!

I think I might put the BX up for sale. Something needs to give with my fleet at the moment. The BX and the Merc are the only ones I'm prepared to sell, and the Merc isn't selling...

I feel your pain, DW.  I quite fancy your Merc for a bit of motorway work but the Rover would have to go first to make room and I still need it as a tow car for a few weeks.  Meanwhile I'm feeling a massive amount of love for the ex-Danny Hopkins/ex-Keith Adams/ex-Panhard65 Renault 18 but it presents a logistical nightmare I don't really have time for.

[s'pose this should be a GOM thread post really.  Don't have any shite news.]

I've been evaluating the fate of the BX lately and I'm really not sure what lies in its future at the moment.  I don't know whether or not I'm going to fix the BX as things stand, for all my good intentions and having priced it all up.  This is in part because I've been seriously tempted, yet again, by a Sherpa chassis cab that needs a good amount of work on eBay.  I keep being tempted by Sherpas and I think Stripey has itched the BX scratch I had which is why I'm less inclined to get it fixed in favour of grabbing a Sherpa project/runner.

I don't know what I'm doing on this score at the moment really.  I'm so happy driving the Princess daily that the fuel saving the BX gave me just doesn't come into it, nor does the extra practicality of the estate side of things.  It's made me totally re-evaluate what I want vehicle wise and I've come to the odd conclusion that what I need in my life is a mid-sized British commercial for occasional use.

We shall see, but I expect I'll either fix the BX and get it road legal before selling it or I'll just scrap/part out the BX and buy a Sherpa project instead.  I'm not looking to be talked in or out of this decision, I'm just putting it out there as my car situation at the mo.  Besides, a Sherpa could be far better for moving house with than a BX.  I'll probably end up doing nothing, and this will just be the demented ramblings of a certifiable choddist.

Trigger your pm box is full I think. Being the nosey sort with too much time on his hands I got the VIN number for your Civic and it's quite* interesting. Send me a PM.

Posted

Ohh, that sounds exciting! I don't know why my PM's aren't working as I thought we had a 200 message limit now?, I'll delete a few and see what happens.

Posted

Rationality, I has it!  As much as I'd love to save that £250 Sherpa chassis-cab on eBay at the moment, it is probably wiser to invest the funds in getting an MoT on the BX so I can sell that on for something else, or maybe keep the BX.  It's not that I don't like the BX because I do, but for some reason it looked less daunting to take on a crusty O-series powered truck than to tackle a crusty French estate.  I think this may have been an instance of Shiters Syndrome, crumbling old British commercials have that effect on me.

Posted

Off to Wales now on a possible chod collection mission for a fellow shiter. Sorry DW, I am not going to surprise you by turning up at your place with a wad of cash for the Merc.

Good. I've just put £30 of fuel in it. ;)

I've just been given an '02 plate fiesta by my boss for welding his mates camper.

This is awesome because;

* It's immaculate (-ish, keep reading you'll see....)

* The BMW is costing nearly £100 a week in fuel commuting

* It's got six months tax

Nice S4 there.... They're a bit more stealth than the later shape, same engine? I was followed, and then passed by a Avant at great speed and it got me thinking that they're getting quite affordable now.

No 85 per litre veg oil in Tesco (locally) but £1.00 per litre using a 'two for one' offer on the three litre bottles. I reckon it's now over 6 weeks since I had to stop at a petrol station for diesel and that was only a fiver's worth as I was getting low.
