Points go to Skattrd, with an honourable mention to Richard, I have acquired a Xantia, and there may be a C5 to follow.

So far the Xantia needs rear spheres, front discs & pads and a repair to the central locking wiring... anyone got any of those bits kicking about, pm me please!

Did you buy that Montego then?

Yeah, should be landing next week VA. Gotta keep things in the family...

Posted

I believe our very own Captain Slow may have some knowledge of that Montego.  I was tempted by it when it came up for sale first time around but bought the Ledbury instead.

The spare 2CV chassis was collected yesterday by a friend. That's one garden ornament that my wife is very glad is no longer here.

The green 2CV should be going next weekend (I've already been paid). The removal of the chassis means I've been able to review the parking situation, so the Mercedes is no longer blocked in. That meant I could actually get it out on the road for a drive. Which was very pleasant. Had two people contact me expressing an interest in it yesterday, but it is still here.

Another Rebel Joins the fleet...

I had been going to write this up as a seperate thread but I fogot to take the camera with me and only got a few crappy phone pictures so thought I'd just share them here instead.

Two weeks ago I put a silly low bid on a rebel on ebay, thinking that at £275 someone would almost certainly outbid me... How wrong I was. I ended up winning the bastard thing, another car I dont really need and dont have the space for.

So last week I hired a trailer and headed over to Portsmouth to collect my mate dave before the drive up country.

Not Paying or Displaying:

After driving up through the night we arrived at our destination, A Storage yard just outside Rugely Power Station, The seller had bought a Job lot of 3 rebels from an old man who had clearly been an enthusiast but had let the cars get into quite a poor state. One of the three had already been sold Leaving just this one and a white one left. Sadly I never took any pictures in the yard.

The car in question is an early 1968 Estate and would originally have been fitted with a 700cc engine. It has had a 850 fitted at some time and has also had a later all synchromesh gearbox. The Cosmetic condition is very tired and the interior has been modified a bit by a previous owner. Some of which can hopefully be easlily fixed.

Having failed to take any photos of the loading we did manage to get a couple as we were leaving... The chance of getting some cooling towers in the backgroung was just too good to pass up.

Stopped for breakfast roll of Sausage, Eggs and bacon and at a butty wagon and took a few more photos.

Sadly thats all the pictures I got but a few days later and some messing about and it was running and driving. theres a video of it on youtube here:

The plan will be to get it through an MOT ASAP and offer it on to a new home.

Required for an MOT:

Chassis Welding,

Front suspension bushes / seals,

Brake overhaul,

Electical Repairs.

2 Tyres,

Front seatbelts,

So if anyone wants a MOT'd Tax free project this one might be available in the next few weeks.

Hey that looks pretty good for the money! I do like these little Rebels :)

As a sidenote, and no offence intended, do you always photoshop your numberplates? Looks like a lot of effort.

Doesn't take long and its something i've always done. Can't really expain why!

I did a few bits to the Alfa today - fixed the rear foglight (just a dodgy connection in the bulb holder) and the front sidelights (new bulbs at a fiver a time - ouch), sorted the nearside dipped headlamp aim by reseating the bulb properly in the light unit, so it now lights the road instead of the trees, and fitted a new pair of wiper blades.  It's now as ready for a test as it's going to be so I'll bung it in as soon as I get time and see if it fails on the wheel bearing or front suspension bushes, which are the only obvious faults.  At least sorting out the dodgy bulbs has stopped the computer bleeping at me every time I turn the ignition on.

I also plugged the car into an OBD2 reader yesterday to see why the EML was on - the computer said "Motor control system failure", which sounded pretty drastic.  The only engine-related code that showed up was "cylinder 3 above knock limit" - I erased the codes and the EML hasn't come back on yet, so hopefully it was a historic fault.  I'm still not sure what to do about the top end rattle when the engine's warm though - I did almost buy a bottle of Wynn's valve lifter treatment from the motor factor but was feeling a bit stung after having forked out a tenner for sidelight bulbs, so I didn't.  If it passes its test I'll look into the source of the rattle though, as it gets quite irritating after a while.

This afternoon I jacked the 164 up and removed the NSF brake caliper - I hadn't been able to do this before as the flexi wouldn't undo from the caliper so I had to undo the flexi from the other end, which resulted in all the brake fluid pissing out.  Fortunately now the car's at home I was able to find a bolt of the right size to screw into the end of the metal brake pipe and keep the fluid in.  The pistons seem to be fairly well seized - my Poundland G-clamp actually snapped in half rather than shift the piston I was trying to push in, so I might have to take the calipers to a garage and ask them to have a go as I don't think I'm going to get very far with my (lack of) workshop facilities.  The offside front sill is also starting to look a little thin and frilly towards its front end, and I'm not sure I'd trust the jacking point either.  The rear arch is pretty well buggered, but then it was on its way when I bought the car over 8 years ago so that's hardly surprising, and I've got a repair panel in the boot.  By contrast, the nearside seems to have survived its extended lay-up pretty well - certainly better than most 40-year-old cars would cope with sitting outside virtually untouched for five years.  I've only had to put air in the tyres twice in that period too.

After that I took the carb off the Spacy - it looks like it's got blocked up somewhere as the bike fires straight up on Easystart but doesn't want to know on petrol.  I'm going to see if I can persuade the ancient Philips screws that hold the float bowl on to unscrew - not holding my breath though...

Today I spent the day helping Steve shift cars and a fair few heavy parts around his unit. I saw a few Allegros, Marinas, an Ambassador and some very old Saab thing. I've seen these cars a few times before but only when they were tightly parked up.

My Sterling has now been sorted, but as I liked the 45 so much, Steve said I could use for another day or two. Ill be taking it back tomorrow and brining my Sterling back, I reckon I'll also be summoned to help Steve move more cars about.

Fantastic Reliant work again and more calendar-potential shots! I'd love a Rebel but I've been getting 'those' looks a lot lately from the other half, so really need to calm fleet happenings down a bit.

Cheers I'm sure I'll be advertising it on here when its up for sale. (though If anyone is keen to buy it now I will sell it as it stands at the moment)

As a further encore I have bought the other rebel the seller had: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271217879153

At that kind of money its hard to think of it as a mistake as It happens to have a lot of desireable bits (eg a high ratio axle and a galvanised chassis) but I'm a bit aware that I have nowhere to put It. This new one began life as a van so the hope would be to restore it to being a van then possibly put a modern engine in there... the non standard flip front would probably stay. Dave the owner of the Red Rebel saloon has expressd a desire to have it as a works vehicle so he may have it in the long term.

I'm also slightly worried about telling my mother I have bought 2 more cars. This brings my total up to Five: The red Scimitar se5a, the Scimitar Coupe´ project, a Rebel Van, the new Rebel estate and the Flip front white van.

washed polished the car............. see the otange peel paint with a cheeky reflection of neighbours honda

Joe, I would love a crack at that Rebel when it's on the road. I think if we can get the Allegro through an MOT with a minimum of fuss then I can move the Standard on and get something else of unknown quality without being stuck for transport, though ideally I'd like to keep the Standard at least until the end of the year. ARGH, I want to buy ALL TEH CARS, somebody needs to stop me...

I finally got around to fixing the rear wash on Miss Alf's Corsa (96 Corsa B)...........I have been putting this off since the MoT last year.

It has had in new tailgate at some point in it's past I think as about 4 years ago I had a look at why the tailgate didn't work on the central locking I found there was no motor on the boot lock.

The rear wash has never worked but now it is in the MoT it needs to........so yesterday I set giving it a dose of looking at and found the only problem was whover fitted the tailgate didn't bother to connect the pipe..........just put a bolt on the end with some sealer! Connected and working now. This took so little time I even cleaned out the vacuum and breather pipes to give it the chance of an honest pass on the emissions test!

Seems to have been a long time coming, but I'm finally feeling well enough to maintain my blog again.  Baby steps, but every one counts.

Talking of Hydragas...

Dropped the Disco at a garage some miles away, then proceeded to walk 5 miles nearer home after hitch-hike-fail. That meant I ambled past this...

996833_10151698974288200_1341884450_n.jp

It's a 2-litre auto that I've seen many, many times as I drove past. The chap was outside and I was on foot so we got talking. It's been parked up for five years - simply abandoned as the chap bought another car. He's looking to sell to someone who'll restore it. I only had a quick glance but the interior (covered) seems pretty tidy. It's done over 185,000 miles! The lacquer has pretty much all fallen off and it has the usual tricky rot above the rearmost side windows - a classic Ambassador weakness.

I really, really want it but there's not really much chance of me taking it on at the moment. I really need the Merc to sell, and possibly would need to shift the BX too... Oddly, Rachel seems quite keen on it!

Chap has owned it almost from new. It was a demonstrator first. He used to tow a caravan with it and has a load of spares as well.

Posted

"A couple of hundred," for the car. He reckons the parts are worth £700 but as no-one wants them, I'm sure a deal could be done.

Posted

I'm told the Ambassador is like a Princess but better, on the driving front.  Shame about the looks, but you can't have everything I suppose.  Sounds like it could be worth a punt.

I'm off to take a look at that white Honda Civic tonight off the Ebay thread, I must be mad but I think it looks great in the photos...

The rear wash has never worked but now it is in the MoT it needs to........

Fucksticks I didn't know that.

The one on the Scirocco has never worked in my ownership either.

Does it really have to work?

Posted

Well not certain............

This went in June last year and he mentioned it should work..........and wench's aldi was tested september and he mentioned it on that too.

I have had both cars for years and he never said anything before.

Having said that the last testers manual on vosa site is jan 12 and it is not there but i don't know if there where any updates as we seem to changing alll the time to 'harmonise' with the EU.

Mind you it was a pain with it not working and was cheap to fix.

Wench's Aldi is a different matter though. The washer pipe passes through the motor and they are known to rot out. Result is wipers starts to come on at odds times - thanks to canbus wiring. Fix is a new wiper motor at about £80.....unless the £50 (from dealer) repair kit fixes it.

Posted

If rear wash/wipe is now on the MOT, it sounds like a job for blanking plates.

Posted

I was going to similar ... If it's not fitted then it can't be tested.

Rear wiper hole on a scirocco tailgate can be blocked with a 2p piece if I remember correctly .... and injector holes with a 1p piece, useful for using an injection head on a carb block ;)

Not sure if Volksy has been on here to post the same news but the Lancia has gone to a new home.

IMAG0237_zpsd271cae5.jpg

IMAG0238_zps7fc27147.jpg#

I am a little sad to see it go as don't have a 'proper' classic on the road at the minute but Volksy will really miss it as he loved it. The first thing he said was 'I have just realised I will never be able to afford another'. The chap in the background is not touching himself up, he is the new owner getting money out of his pockets.... 8)

New owner came up to Leeds from Chichester and it got home okay. The car is mechanically sound, just a little frilly round the edges. He has recently retired and is planning on a full restoration so its in good hands. I am hoping not to see it up for sale again soon

Just looking at those photos is reminding me what a fucking sexy car that is.

I appear to have done it again...

Yep that's another car!, I went to take a look at this Civic that was on the ebay thread tonight and ended up buying it!.

9010750396_804f9eb510_z.jpg

Under it's pasty white exterior stands a very soild and orginal little car, the worse part was this front wing.

9009568297_77aede3158_z.jpg

The Doctor owner was given it by his aunt along with the number plate to teach his daughter to drive in 2 years ago but he decided he didn't want her to drive it so ended up sticking it in the garage for another couple of years.

It's only covered 76000 miles and has pretty much every receipt from new, It runs like a sack of crap but I'm pretty sure it's gummy fuel from sitting around so long as the choke and idle is very irregular but it's been regularly serviced and mot'd so i doubt there's much wrong with it...

9010750290_ae793db4ab_z.jpg

The interior is also clean and tidy, even down to the plastic still on the doors but it needs a really good clean as it's been garaged all it's life, everything works, even the radio!.

9010750210_9ab319cf8c_z.jpg

Basic!.

9010750628_f690c83fa3_z.jpg

The rocker cover gasket leaks but this should all clean up nicely.

9010750122_565946e3d8_z.jpg

This was from the first Spanish grand prix, the lady went and got VIP pits treatment and fitted the sticker as a souvenir, I'm tempted to remove it as there's a nice Honda sticker underneath.

9010750000_09c3a1b44e_z.jpg

Original dealer tax disc holder.

9009567641_df65c66bc4_z.jpg

The full length roof is brilliant and one of the reasons I bought the car, I'd imagine it's unique even.

9010749724_d89f46bd06_z.jpg

And it comes with a massive amount of paperwork, the original plate is LME 285P, hopefully it will go back on it again.

After a lot of haggling I gave £1150 for it, I don't know if that's good or not but I can't see me losing to much money it after cleaning it up.
