Gloves!

None of this disposable stuff either. I have a set of oil proof ones I got from Screwfix especially for oil changes.

Even using disposable is better than bare hands. Except the eurocarpart ones, they're crap. End up double bagging them as they rip easily. Often even when putting them on.

You're not wrong, I did have a decent set of gloves but they had to be binned for some reason I can't recall, I use disposable ones but obviously they don't stand up to abrasive/sharp edges any better than flesh does!  I must get another set of decent ones, they definitely help with grip/keeping hands clean(ish).  Something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01CSM2Q6S/ref=sxnav_sxwds-bovbp-p_mh_h_2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_p=8614011558589636176&pd_rd_wg=bJRcu&pf_rd_r=9G5XXCJDYKQAWDA21NFA&pf_rd_s=desktop-sx-nav&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_i=B01CSM2Q6S&pd_rd_w=58GUI&pf_rd_i=mechanic+gloves&pd_rd_r=824e6748-2b44-4935-ac81-1cf7d1d5afd9&ie=UTF8&qid=1534151223&sr=2

Can't help with the cost, but they have a F/B page with a few different classes for sale.

Would guess £750 to £1,500 but don't even know what cars they use so could be miles out.

If they are not intentionally bumping running cost will be low.

My son started in Mini Stox age 11. Always used to worry me that I started him too soon.

His daughter has just begun Go Kart lessons age 5.

Some take to it, some don't. As long as you don't push them it's no worse than some other sports.

Sub 1000cc there were quite a few corsas a yaris and lots of bubble Micras, a sort of neighbour was running well in the 1400 class, will have to have a word.

Are you on FB?

The 'Banger racing cars for sale . help and tips . and gear for sale' group is a good one for rods and yout' rods.

I'm on ovalchat and a couple of the cars under £200 for racing groups, will have a look at the one you mentioned.

Still need to sell our house and buy another first though.....

Fuck sake. Annoying electrical problem returns on the Lexus..same shit as before. Central locking, 3 electric windows and heaters refuse to work. This is pissing me off now. Has to be something simple but I don't understand how it has randomly come back again.

Spoken with a mate who think's it's a bad earth/dodgy connection, trouble is I can't book him anytime soon. Will have to book it in near me to have a look over.

When I collected Mason, the forum bike LS400, there were various electrical maladies including lights not working and the electric seats not working(not ideal for me as I had to drive it 200 miles with my knees around my ears).

I solved the problem with a well placed kick directly upwards from the throttle pedal. Normal service was resumed,

Whatever electrical gubbins were up there had caused the problem

OMG how dare you have driven it on the road think of the nuns and kittens etc....:) you should immediately get a hyundia on PCP for a lifetime of debt!

"Kick up" that's a new one to me not seen it before - does it have the bulbs fitted wrong or beam benders fitted?

It has aftermarket super HD XENONZ that are spectacularly bright, he gave me some technical waffle about the light from them having too much spread and don't focus properly in front of the car, he's surprised I haven't had folk flashing at me as I drive past them. I just nodded along pretending to know what he was on about and agreed to change them to non retina burning ones.

Drained the fuel out of one of the MGBs. Been in there about 12 years so it didn't smell particularly like petrol. It does though kill weeds pretty quickly.

So, the wife's bloody fiat has now shat it's battery out, having decided that it hasn't inflicted enough financial ruin upon us.

It's getting to be that bad, she wants to trade the damn thing in for a Duster. Might not be a bad shout, since the Fiat needs a bloody stop start agm battery at £230, then a trip to the dealers to do a firmware reboot on the body computer so that it'll stop throwing stop start errors everyone we turn the key.

So, in 3 months it's cost us near enough £1500 in repairs. All moderns are shit etc...

Pity they can't use normal batteries - I could have given you one of mine.....

Reasonable spec Duster is £900 down then £180 pm, not that I've been looking...  that is bloody good for no-worry motoring though.

I've got a 13 plate laureate dci and it's been utterly faultless. We went to Stockport Dacia yesterday to look at a Sandero Stepway, but she wasn't keen on it.

The new duster is a lovely machine, though the posh model with keyless entry and digital climate control was all they'd got in. Part of the charm for me is how basic mine is- it's got air con and a usb stereo, but that's about it really, and it's all I want too.

The missus on the other hand was almost signing on the line for one!

The wife's battery in her Peugeot 208 went recently and it was £250 for a replacement. I nearly shat myself

Well bum.

Find the part you need before you break it, kids.  I now need about a dozen plastic plug/clips that go into 1cm square holes and accept a threaded screw all the way through the middle.  I'm sure I'll find something, naturally the original part is NLA.

Series 3 and Defender Land Rovers have a very similar part (CZA4705L)

Might be worth a try?

You can thank* sims00 for that.

Is the headlamp dip adjuster switch in the wrong place (if there is one, I can't remember)?

I met up with 320Touring this afternoon and handed over the cash, got the keys for the Allegro, while the previous owner was desperately trying to fit a wheel bearing to his estate before flying home to london.

It looks pretty good and I'm hoping the non running can be fixed with a set of points and a new condenser as changing the points is what stopped it running in the first place.

I also got a shot in the 320Oxford, which isn't as easy to pilot as he makes it look

Pickup is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

That looks pretty ace, bringing it to the next Scotoshite meet?

Lovely colour. That BL red (that looks orange) is one of my favourites. How much does an Allegro that need welding set you back nowadays?

Not had a good look at at it yet . There’s rust at the front of the wings and door bottoms. Also a hole in the boot floor and one of the bits it failed on doesn’t look horrible . Who knows though I’m hoping it to get it on a ramp once I get it down to my garage .

They're very similar construction to the Princess so most of the rot spots are fairly easy to fabricate and replace, it's usually on fairly flat panels and where they meet.  Check the outer corners of the floor and the end of the sills for hidden bits.  They seem to very rarely go around anything structural and when they do, that's normally because the rest of it is terminally fooked.  It'll be fine.  The orange, which is probably Vermillion but might be Blaze or Flamenco, is pretty flattering to rust and paint issues, it's a bit of a blessing and a curse really.  The Mk3s like this tend to rot behind the sill trims but they do seem much more rust resistant than the Mk1 cars, by the early 80s BL seemed to have started to get their rust protection sorted properly for the most part and they're often better than their contemporaries even when they've had a much harder life.

Driving through torrential rain on the motorway today, I was reminded of the BFO hole in the Cavalier's boot floor.

The carpet was wet from the spray and all I had was this as a temporary fix.

I'd left my gaffer tape at home, but held down by the carpet it seems to have kept the worst out. I can guarantee it'll still be there next spring.

That's good info thanks. I forgot to say it's only got 20,000 miles on it the radio blanking plate hasn't even been removed!
