If you see anyone over 6', ginger, and with a big orange beard run.

Same goes if you see a grey rcz.

Lol well if you see an almost bald bloke with a gingery beard & a grey silver Saab who seems to be dressed for a job interview....

Nah the noises aren't as bad these days, the last time I banged as loud as the test drive was at the top of Applecross last year & I did wash it a few months ago....

I guess it didn't like Bristol.

It's nearly a year and half since you bought that from me. I said at the time it was far too good to scrap or strip for parts! Pretty good buy for 180 quid really. ;)

Does the Aircon still work? I seem to remember it being pretty noisy when I had it. Not sure if it just needed a regas.

How is the water leakage nowadays? Did replacing that pipe fix it all up? Or is the water pump still a source of leaks?

Posted

I was pretty good at figuring out how to instigate it making that noise. I wonder if the fact the fresh fluid and snake oil has been washing around it for so long, it's unsticked or cleaned out the insides of the valve body?

That 9-5 is always a benchmark in my mind when people moan about the other AW55 gearboxed cars like the Geartronic where people freak out when they start banging. Despite how bad it sounds, they appear to keep going a long time in that state.

Aircon has been fine since I got it regassed when I had the two front tyres fitted. It seems to struggle a bit more than I think it should, I really do need to look if the condenser is blocked with leaves etc.

It still uses a small amount of water but a lot less, that pipe fixed about 80% of it I'd say. I still want to get the water pump out & small rubber heater hoses at that end of the block out before winter to try & trace why the heater goes cold in town. I'm damn sure it's a partly blocked small hose at that end of the engine.

You might be right about the snake oil etc, that'd make sense if it was just dirt in there causing it.

I'd update it's thread but there is nothing to report as it just keeps working as a car, like cars should. I agree it was a damn good buy, probably the best value car I've ever had.

Now a 9 hour train journey home in prospect :-(

Could be worse, you could have to drive the fusion back.

Having successfully used it indoors as a room/boiler cupboard deodoriser, I put my recently-acquired ozone generator to work inside The Volvo and The Aero today, which despite always being kept clean, smelt a bit 'old', especially The Volvo.

After running the generator in each car for an hour and leaving them both to stand with all of their windows open for several hours afterwards (very important!), they smell nice and fresh inside.

Hopefully, as well as general funkiness, the ozone will have got rid of any bugs and bogles in the heating/ventilation systems :)

Any links to what you have? I am probably going to get one as I always seem to get honky old cars.

St Erth. On my way. They have flowers in the station, this clearly isn't Kent! Taxi and branch line shite included.

Running along the coast at Teignmouth. Lovely. I think this was the bit that fell in the sea a while back?

Jack the car up.

Use a block of wood.

Up up up.

*crack*

Huh?

*PITCHEWWWW!*

Wood flies

WTF?

Am I using the wrong wood??

Posted

I use 4x4 or 2x6 cross section (inches) blocks because of that problem.  Sometimes stout planks are the only size which will fit but they crack along the grain particularly if old and dry.  The outcome will also depend on how you are stressing the wood e.g. point or edge loads will give grief.

My little Dutch trip. Contains some serious wiper porn, many Datsuns, a hint of Talbot Tagora and some epic rust - courtesy of Fiat and Autobianchi.

After seeing the 90s max power thread I decided to come over all MSport and buy these for my E36ti which has been sitting in my garage for the last 6 months and I’ve hardly used it the last couple of years.

But to my defence the previous owner had got rid of the gingers on the front and sides and OCD kicked in.

It’s a real nice low mileage rust free 2 owner car though and I can’t see myself ever getting rid of it but I suppose the lights will be thrown in the boot and never used lol.

It does have a slight misfire when warm though so I managed to also source a set of NOS leads and while at it plus I also bought a secondhand MAF and coil this week as well.

Actually found some time to get Henry to give the Rover some sweet suction, removing a lot (but not all) of the dog hair. Feels much nicer inside now. However, I'm feeling a bit crap tonight, so have a pic of the outside of it instead. It's a great angle for showing the dent.

That’s awesome - if my cats were outdoor cats they’d definitely be like this :D
