Angyl - "Claytonrite" is the keyword you need. The locking strip comes in 3 sizes (bottom of the page):

I don't know that it is. They all have a pointed back to them and I'm pretty sure that won't fit in my window seal which has no accomodation for the point. The trim that's fitted is flat on the back, as is the slot it goes into. Good to know the name of the stuff for future reference at any rate.

Must be a thin driver in the that Mini.

Twiggy:  Took me a moment to figure out what the link was, it was throwing me to a generic page.  Same issue as the stuff Eddie linked in that it has that point on the back that's not compatible with my seal.  The Princess window seals are annoyingly specific and one of the few things they didn't parts bin.

Well I've done what I said I'd never do....I've joined a union.

After three plus years of my bosses ignoring my attempts to get paid for the job I do & the HR dept here ignoring my requests to lodge an official grievance I've run out of other options. I still disagree with most of what this union stands for, as most of their ideas are bloody stupid but if it gets me the correct money I'll stay a member till the process is complete.

Altogether now...

" you don't get me, I'm part of the chaseracer.." etc etc

What are the monthly subs? Unless they are silly high then I would remain a member especially as your employer may decide to get arsy if you threaten them with an industrial tribunal.

Are you sure the HR dept isn't trying to make you jump ship?

Edit now you are on the inside it's your chance to get some of the stupid ideas the union has changed for the better, or at least point them out to them.

Just under £18 a month.

I've been doing this job for three n half years, the understanding was after six months or so I'd get regraded to what the job is worth. All I ever get when I ask is non-answers like 'give me a little while longer' etc.

I'm doing the job, I've got more knowledge of parts of it than anyone. But they refuse to pay me for it. When I told HR I wanted to raise a greivence it was ignored and nothing happened even after chasing it.

I'd have accepted a regrade from any point but they've fucked me about so long I'm going after three years back pay too.

FTFY.

Nah the noises aren't as bad these days, the last time I banged as loud as the test drive was at the top of Applecross last year & I did wash it a few months ago....

I guess it didn't like Bristol.

It's nearly a year and half since you bought that from me. I said at the time it was far too good to scrap or strip for parts! Pretty good buy for 180 quid really. ;)

Does the Aircon still work? I seem to remember it being pretty noisy when I had it. Not sure if it just needed a regas.

How is the water leakage nowadays? Did replacing that pipe fix it all up? Or is the water pump still a source of leaks?

Posted

I was pretty good at figuring out how to instigate it making that noise. I wonder if the fact the fresh fluid and snake oil has been washing around it for so long, it's unsticked or cleaned out the insides of the valve body?

That 9-5 is always a benchmark in my mind when people moan about the other AW55 gearboxed cars like the Geartronic where people freak out when they start banging. Despite how bad it sounds, they appear to keep going a long time in that state.

Aircon has been fine since I got it regassed when I had the two front tyres fitted. It seems to struggle a bit more than I think it should, I really do need to look if the condenser is blocked with leaves etc.

It still uses a small amount of water but a lot less, that pipe fixed about 80% of it I'd say. I still want to get the water pump out & small rubber heater hoses at that end of the block out before winter to try & trace why the heater goes cold in town. I'm damn sure it's a partly blocked small hose at that end of the engine.

You might be right about the snake oil etc, that'd make sense if it was just dirt in there causing it.

I'd update it's thread but there is nothing to report as it just keeps working as a car, like cars should. I agree it was a damn good buy, probably the best value car I've ever had.
