Do you know, I could go off a person.

As much as I like the lotus elan colour scheme and have no artistic talent or eye for such things I still stand by my comment . Sorry

The timing chain cover has arrived.......

Now the rebuild can start...............

Or can it ?...........this is the very first time I've had a BRAND NEW head to fit. Loads of reconditioned heads or repaired or straight up gasket changes but never a untouched brand new one.

I'm thinking of putting a shelf up in the living room for it, with a sign underneath it saying

BRAND NEW HEAD-DO NOT TOUCH-STAY AWAY

And no licking coz of rust.

With just a tiny altitude adjustment that Focus would look spot on with those wheels.  Do like.

DId an oil'n'filter swap on the Innocenti this weekend - it was prompted by the oil filter springing a leak, but was due anyway.  It went very smoothly - nothing was seized and for once I managed not to spill a shitload of oil everywhere.  I was slightly concerned initially as the oil filter I'd ordered was noticeably smaller than the one on the car, but it fits fine.  Also the sump plug didn't have a washer on it - it wasn't leaking before, but I put some Hylomar round it before refitting to be on the safe side.

Weather was a bit shite over the weekend with heavy rain showers, but for once I didn't mind as when it started pissing it down I'd retreat into the back of the Relay van and crack on with dismantling the wooden shelving that had been fitted.  The shelves on one side came apart relatively easily, but on the other side some of the screws were proper stuck so I had to resort to a saw.  They're out now though - or rather they're loose in the back of the van waiting for me to take them to the tip.

I had been looking on eBay for a couple of part worn tyres for the C4, but some poking around revealed that both the Golf and the Mondeo have the same sized tyres.  I nicked a wheel off the Golf and stuck the (smaller) spare on; the Mondeo doesn't have a spare but I have a Gooner 2 spacesaver in the garden that I'm hoping will fit (same pcd) so I can nick a wheel off that too.  Then I just need to convince my local tyre place to swap them over.  Annoyingly I snapped my breaker bar trying to undo the wheelnuts on the Golf (obviously rattle-gunned up to 300 lb/ft by some Kwik Fit monkey) so I've had to order a new one of those.  Also ordered a new front wheel bearing for the Relay at the same time - that'll be a fun* job for next weekend.

According to Mrs Imp there was a woman stood screaming full Jeremy Kyle show contestant at another guy, so he might have damaged ear drums but other than that I think they were fine.

Stu, if you're literally just weighing the mk2 in, can I please have your blower motor, driver's door seal (not weatherstrip) and rubber roof strips in exchange for an appropriate amount of ££? Cheers.

Bluebird has just dumped all of its coolant. This car is not turning out to be a good buy...

This afternoon my life plumbed new depths.

The vectras' rear brakes were a bit sticky so I stripped and cleaned them.

I then remembered I had a can of targa red paint in the garage -

I hoped it would uplift me in the same way that scandanavians have a blue wall in their houses when the vodka and porn have stopped working.

Alas, it did'nt.

Judging by the state of the brakes they were last given attention when New Labour were in power.

I think the other cars probably gone into the side of it. One or maybe two amber gamblers?

My 307 has finally been dragged back from my mechanic mate.

To recap he fitted a brand new turbo (at my insistence), he then flushed the oil, filled it with fresh stuff and it started making very terminal rattly noises while still on the ramp....

Before the turbo went there was a bit of top end clatter already.

He diagnosed a buggered cam chain tensioner, and I agree, but quite rightly says he doesnt want to go near it as itll cost me £££ in labour and may well have other faults. In his defense he had warned me against fitting the new turbo too and he was right.

My plan was to break it, but the shiter in me fancies at least having a look at the cam chain tensioner. If I threw in a pattern chain kit at £20 and just reused the original timing belt I wouldnt be out of pocket much......

Well that's an improvement. Doing the other one tomorrow when I have more time as it looks like it's had the towbar electrics spliced into it.

It seems the trade are very wary of working on elderly diesels nowdays - you fix one problem and cause another.....

If you've got a cam chain there won't be a cambelt.

Timing belt drives one camshaft then the chain drives the second off that.....

See below, its a known weak spot - the tensioner lets go if you havent been religious with servicing.

Those of you who know better can correct me however I assume this was a quick fix to convert the 8v XUD into the 16v HDi?

^^^ My 1.6 16V Toyyo has a wonderful twin helix cog drive, for the twin cam/single belt + a backlash half ring in the gear.

Pleasure to behold.... ;)
