The sound quality is a massive improvement now, the annoying beep when you turn the key off isn't so good though...

Depending on year it can be disabled

In predictable news someone's fucked with my car again. Not even a drunk in the night, it happened this morning. Thankfully they're designed to go backwards somewhat so no harm done (this time).

I think it's ex-German fire brigade.

They had mothballed a load of them from new and then sold them off about 5 or 6 years ago.

I recall a V4 'ex services' Twin being featured in a Mag.... V6 upgrade & a fibreglass front to cover the extra length.

I've seen a fair few for sale in Germany but not sure they would fit on my trailer, I've always liked the shape of those tranny's

Do you think the robot clown face dash on the Fiesta was on purpose? It kind of freaks me out.

And that is the end of my first foray into brand new car ownership. I'd hardly used the Viva (2,344 miles since November 2015) and my son needs money to try and buy his first house, so I went to the deeply popular* WBAC who bought it off me.

I'd have another in a heartbeat, although I rarely used it, it was a lovely little thing that was great on fuel, nice to drive and very well spec'd for such a cheap new car.

Is it parked with 2 wheels on the pavement? Some folk may object to this and twat your mirror on purpose.

Nope, it's parked in one of the spaces my family park their cars in every day. Nothing unusual about it at all. I suspect that it might have been a neighbour again, she seems to object to our very existence and only our cars have been targeted in the past. Three rear wipers ripped off, one of my mirrors knocked off, long scratch across my bonnet, long scratch along the underside of my spoiler FFS and my dads motorcycle cover slashed (I basically watched the neighbour do that one) all the while the neighbours cars are untouched.

Oddly enough...I'm going to get him a Corsa C when he sells his VXR. He has had a quote to get insured on my Berlingo van with me, but I'm not sure even I could inflict that level of misery on him.

Who's got experience with the 'new' Fiat Panda ?

I've been offered a 55 plate 1.1, MOT expires end of this month, it needs a drivers door window and a battery. It's in that burnt orange colour.

I'm going back to look again as I want to give the sills a prod as they looked a bit suspect, but it's a running car and he wants £100 for it.

Seems cheap enough to me as long as no major issues, she's done next to no miles since the last MOT so as long as no significant seized brakes etc this could be back on the road for £200 I think.

So, shows how much I know.

It's actually a Fiat Idea (I had no idea) and it's a 1.4

I think I'm gonna go for it and I've a couple of quotes running through Breakeryard for the bits I need, in the interests of being stingy I've offered him £60, I know it's cheap as it is but every little helps!

I think they've all been in service but just in little villages or as backup appliances hence mileages go from as little as a couple of 1000 kms

Shitty 1.7 V4 and worst ratio back axle effectively limits cruising speed to about 45mph.

Prices of them have gone nuts over the last 3 years unfortunately.

There is a Mk1 Transit still working as a fire engine in a factory in Kirkcaldy, although they'd probably call out the proper fire brigade if they did have a fire.

You are right..

Ive an ex German Taunus Transit (62 FK1250)  fire engine sitting in a  garage in Sussex, bought as part of a batch when they were near worthless..

It came from a small German village, was kept 'ready' but really only used in the annual village fete,  having  covered a magnificent 8500km in its 55 years on this planet.

Needs simple recommissioning- when Im next up to it. Be nice to think it might be worth something soon.

These arrived recently. Soon to be fitted. (Oil and filter, not the wicker basket or carpet!)

No long sevice intervals for the new* Saab! Last done by Barry Cade 4,000 miles ago.

5 litres of this plus filter £19 or so from Neo's. Happy with that!

I finally got off my arse and fixed this

post-17731-0-58887900-1486222984_thumb.jpg

Two front hoops and the O/S/F outrigger welding up.

Shame I immediately gave it to my father to drive around and not me.

I go diesel thieving coz I'm a tightfisted knob.
For a notorious mingebag, it's an interesting job
Now it's a job that just suits me, a diesel thiever I will be.
If you could see what I can see
When I'm thieving diesel.

Over the past week, I've passed three cars abandoned by the roadside.  One was a Ka, so not entirely surprising; the other two were Rover 25s.

Been down to Chichester today to get my 2cv's door cards covered to match the roof. Plus matching sunvisor covers! Matts soft tops if anyone is interested. Went down in the Mercedes as the forecast was bad, but in the end it was rather springlike. Did get a bit enthusiastic at one mini roundabout near lavant with a positive camber and got some four wheel drift!

I need to talk to Matt about a new roof for the Dyane.

Matt did the roof in 2002. It's still good, although faded a bit now.

Mrs Stool complained of the wayward handling of her Polo on the way to work yesterday. I dutifully went over there in the evening to diagnose the cause of the problem - wishbone bush said I after a short drive up and down the street. Told her that nothing was hanging off, and it would be ok to drive it home slowly so I could fix it the next day.

Today it would appear that I was very wrong - these were removed -

It was still hanging on when I arrived at my unit, but stubborn wheel bolts and a large breaker bar finished it off!

Spent 6 hours in the garage today. Put some Bilt Hamber rust killer on a few scabs on the Senator (waiting for parts to arrive before head is taken off). Will paint some epoxy primer on tomorrow. As mentioned in the grumpy thread, I also changed the starter motor twice on the Royale. Last hour was spent drinking a "few" bottles of Coors listening to 80's usic before I got too cold.

Those wishbones are impressive, how old is the car?

Had the Pumpkin's radio out again today so I could fit a DAB aerial in the back.  I'd bought one with a magnetic base like I have for the Mondeo - mainly for the shite appearance of course.

First balls-up was I'd failed to take into account the fact that Rangie roofs aren't steel, or even cast iron.  That saw me attaching it to the A Post - sideways, just ahead of the mirror.  It looks pretty unobtrusive and works fine.  I now have interference-free Radio 5 back and Radio 6 music too.

Also plugged a lead into the aux socket so I can use phone/ipod for music if I feel the need.

Also fitted a new pair of wipers and had a spare door key cut for it, and sprayed waxoil around some of the more frilly bits.

Taking it round to my mates tomorrow - his old man was a serial Landrover botherer.  He was a lorry driver, after he died we found a lot of diesel in his lockup.  I have no idea why he went to all the bother of converting his petrol series 3 Land Rover to diesel (way before 200 TDIs etc) nor can I imagine where all that diesel came from.

Anyway no doubt it (the Pumpkin) will ftp as I am attempting to demonstrate why it's more fun than his 2015 Honda CRV.

Oddly enough...I'm going to get him a Corsa B called Nugget when he sells his VXR. I could happily inflict that level of misery on him.

Just give Mike a nudge when you're ready to buy, yeah?

Crikey ! It's a 9N, isn't it ? Are they the OEM items, or some aftermarket shite ?

If it's the latter, please name and shame the manufacturer !

CS is borrowing the 960 for van duties later today.

With le VAG shite off for bodywork and the 305 semi retired to my shed to stop it fizzing round the bunghole, CS lent me his cash and carry ex-Partridge tragedy Jag as transport.

I don't like Jags - but it's a set of wheels should I need it. You're supposed to like Jags. I never have bar the XJ220, Mk X and X-TYPE 3.0.

I've decided that leathered off, it isn't bad looking from the outside. The body control is excellent and the damping is first rate; ride and handling balance worthy of the cliches.

Can I get on with the interior? No. It's shite, frankly. I thought the Americans were the experts at wasting space inside a car. I was wrong. People wither on about a 'sense of occasion' inside a Jag - all I saw was crap wood and clattering switch gear, the caramac XJ40 instrument binnacle pods the worst offenders.

It can go into my 'Drives Great, Looks Shite' category of motors, populated at the moment by the R50 Mini Cooper S.

Deer are bloody stupid. Two of them standing at the apex of a corner on the way home tonight, only took it upon themselves to move after much evasive action taken by me.

In actual car related news, I'm really starting to bond with the Golf, and I can really see why the VAG TDI is so popular with taxi drivers. 55mpg around town, reasonably smooth and civilised, many torques and when you get out of town it's really quite quick for what it is. I had a slightly awkward pair of deliveries at work tonight that necessitated a shortcut along some nice twisty bits in order to get the second one there remotely on time, excellent fun and the best part is I'm getting paid to buzz around at that point! I think my shifts this week have possibly paid for the car completely too, which is always nice.
