I've seen this up on an Escort owners page but can't remember the asking price

Certainly wasn't those sort of prices

Hang on and I'll try find it again

Shy weans get nae sweets! Got to be worth an ask..

You've kinda tipped your hat by stating you are keen

If the BIN is 1500 then personally my target would be circa 1200, 750 is a fair whack away from where he is.

Worth a shot though!

Car Lock Ups question... (to save starting OMG yet another new thread for a quick question)

How much to people pay on here for their lock ups? Are you asked to sign up to contracts i.e. 6 months or a year?

Are all the council lock ups generally on council estates?

Mine is a council one, £40 a month or something cheap like that. It's in a reasonably nice area. As for a contract it's a fortnights notice to cancel.

Also came with a table, some deicing salt and a near full can of pez, free gifts may vary.

What's the damage going to be? New front section and maybe a lambda sensor....

Bornite: I'd say you've lowballed. £900-950 perhaps?

But, what I can't reconcile is, it's no better than any of the other MK3s that have just sold for £1000, and they're all the same colour!!

In a way, I'm hoping she declines.  This time I actually would have to hide it from my wife, and I've no separate funds from her so I'd have to pimp myself out in order to buy it.  In luncheon vouchers.

Maybe, just maybe, the pump should be on the top of the bottle so when the seal fails the washer bottle doesn't empty into the boot?

Maybe?

Thank goodness I'd been clearing out the garage and had a pile of old towels within arms reach.

I'm not gonna start a new thread for it, but I'm debating what to do about the Meriva. I need to sell it, but do I sell it as is, or wait until march (bonus month) and fix some of its foibles?

What Cost Needed? Front Discs £47.98 Maybe Front Pads 22.49 Maybe Rear Discs £37.98 Maybe Rear Pads £19.49 Yes! Tracking £45 Yes! 2X Tyres £80.00 Maybe

That's the parts it would need, but it also needs a few other bits...

Issues:

Wheel wobble/shake at over 50, quite alarmingly at over 55. It pulls to the left alot, and the rear tyres are no the best (1 Amy kerbed on the inside so went a bit perished, I hammered the steel back out, and one is the last westlake we got fitted way back when, and has a mm or two), so my plan was to pop those on the front, 2 new tures with balancing, then the tracking, should sort that out

Brakes. Rear calipers need either replacing or a damn good refurb (I've had to excersise the caliper piston every year, and I think the pad sliders need a proper de-rust). Because of this it needs rear pads possibly quite urgently. Brakes fine and true though. Discs are probably OK, 2 years old though on the front and possibly 4 on the back, but new pads might clean it up enough,

Engine runs cool, and the heater is shit. It's probably the matrix needing a flush, but I did that a few years ago. Could be the radiator. It;s never actually overheated, idling away for a good while the needle does go to the middle and the fans kick in, but start to drive and it falls to below 80 and stays there no matter how hard you rag it...

Rear bumper has been basked and paint fell off one corner. Meh

Engine smells of oil, but it's not actually leaking that I can see. My only possible thought is the rocker gasket is weeping again cos I fitted a euro car parts one at the side of the road outside amys dads house a few years ago. The main breather pipe from the cam cover to sump is and has always been mayo'd up with slime, never managed to shift it, have to poke through it every so often. I put that down to the short journeys it always does, and had planned to wazz some magic snake oil into the next oil change and flush it.

It's minging inside, carpets have worn badly, seats need a shampoo etc.

Paintwork in general aint the best on one side for reasons I have not worked out.

Plus points though, cambelt, waterpump and tensioners a year or so ago (cant remember the mileage, early 80K I think, and I;ve given it all the love it has needed since we bought it from a storage unit with no paperwork bar the last MOT...

MOT till November, only advisory is for the aformentioned rear brake pads

So, do I sell it here for £250 as is, whilst we are overloaded with far better cars that are slow selling

Sell/try to sell it for £350/£400 on facebook or ebay with most* of those issues described

Wait until March (which means keeping it taxed and insured) and lob £300 max (probably less) at it to fix everything, but it still only be worth £600 tops as Meriva's of it's age are going for, mint or not... At the very least if I exercised the rear calipers one last time so they stopped binding and fit new pads that would tick off the MOT advisory, and get the tracking done, then wash and hoover it...

Any thoughts? If there is vague interest at a £250 sale I'll bang a thread up with proper details, but I don't want to over-estimate it's value, although £250 would be ace as it would pay the zafira off! Would probably even accept trusted shitter payment scheme.

Just my thoughts anyway, it'll stay for a few weeks until the Zafira is MOT'd.

Never sold at auction, or even been to one... what are the selling fee's at cannock/when is the next cannock/who from my local area is next going to cannock?

Posted

I think Cannock is quite cheap. I'm going to try Westbury soon because it's easier to get back from than my usual choice which is Newport.

Do have multiple vehicles to dispose of at auction though so if there's a Cannock meet soon I might bring something along.

Posted

Funnily enough, Cannock was my first thought! Pick the right sale and you might find some friendly folk to ease up the bidding. That'll be hilarious when one of us wins it!

Does Westbury still have green seats in the ring ? I can remember going to the "new " auction at Westbury on my school holidays with dad .

Eek that's 30 years ago

I've never been, just saw an advert for them earlier and then found that the train station is very close which is a lot better than walking through Newport at night!

Posted

Wherever it is ill need to get home though, that will be the only issue, unless someone else local went and bought me home. Six cylinder?

If someone here wins it I'll donate some parts, I'm not that mean! It would get them home though, heck I might be making it sound worse than it is, I am comparing it with a xantia!

If it goes to cannock please will someone stop me bidding?

The auctioneer does that by banging his gravel.

Right. This seems like the best place to collect some thoughts on this.

This little canary turned up in the Tat thread earlier in the year at £1500. It was just relisted at £1200 with a BIN at £1500. Not a sniff. I had previously emailed the seller a considered, well thought out email saying that I was:

  • Genuinely interested
  • A Ford enthusiast
  • A masochist (in not so many words)
  • Keen as the french mustard this car resembles
  • Not willing to pay their price
I was a pretty good negotiator back in the day when in Estate Agency, and love a challenge. (Not to rip people off, but to get to a place where everyone's happy).

Anyway, the vendor has come back and said "Even our MOT tester thinks it's too cheap but, as you've already said, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay. Please make an offer for our consideration".

I've told them about the green Sierra at £510 and the bASe Sierra at £750. I've shown them comparable evidence of sales in the last month:

I've said I'd be prepared to pay £750.

  • Is that still too dear? There's something very endearing about it.
  • Would anyone fancy coming "in on it" and adding it to the Autoshite Ford Preservation Portfolio â„¢ ?
Would love to know your thoughts.

(A bit of poo is coming out just thinking about them saying yes...)

Poo has just come out.

Does anyone want to come in on this? Roof rack also included apparently.

Please help!

Ugh. Lovely and sunny, so I went to dig the pressure washer out, given most of the fleet is covered in filthy, salty muck (2CV included). Discover the outside tap is frozen solid. Yes, apparently it is that cold outside! My temp gauge reckons bang on zero. At 2pm in the afternoon!

The 2CV will remain mucky.

It's minus 1 here in Northants, it's not been above it since about 6PM last night.

-3 here. I've shut up shop and come home to sulk in front of the fire. Everything is frozen!
