I've not offered it for sale on here because it's a bit fucked - hopefully they won't check it too thoroughly

I fixed the daft instrument panel on my goona - turns out the reason the foglight lamp illuminated when I braked or indicated left was a duff LH reversing light bulb.

One day I'll have to get the back doors opening again.

Another typical day in the life of a Goona owner.

Just reversed the flaming Bentley into a post. That's the third time on that same corner! Only repaired it from the last event over the weekend, I am such a bellend. Fortunately there's no damage this time just a 'Christmas kiss'  So, while I was sort of winning I've put it away in the garage, leathered her off as much as I could and put her blankets and cover on. Also turned the battery off which as usual, sent the alarm into  a dizzy fit with lights flashing and sirens blaring. See if that stops the battery from going flat...

Then had to go and buy fuel for the Kia as I had forgotten that it was sniffing fumes when I put it away and it was a very cautious drive to the nearest (and dearest of course) petrol station.

Got out the Civic after driving home from work today to find one of the rear wheels "ticking". Investigation found a red hot brake disc on one wheel, must be binding.

Naturally.

Justin Case is moving house and asked me to tell you all he's internet and so Autoshite-less for many days. Top fella.

Finished the snowflakes for the Vectra. It was a DIY refurb - not spending £50 a corner on wheels that will get chipped.

I bought two 235/35/19 brand new off ebay for £78 delivered. £20 fitted - the fitter looked an said "I'll scratch these y'know".

It's why I didn't get them professionally done.

webuyanycar : I took the a3 in knowing that I would never see their initial offer of £1030 but was a little downhearted when it was revised to £605. I managed to 'haggle' him back up to £700 but that was the limit.

Interestingly, most of the inspection was concerned with the bodywork, checking paint for repairs and marking down the many rust patches coming through on the wings, sills and doors. Mechanically, he started the engine, let it run a bit, gave it a quick rev and pronounced everything ok.

Thank fuck he didn't actually drive the car, there's a whole load of expensive suspension and steering work just waiting to cost some poor bugger a fortune. So I signed the forms, shook his hand and got the hell out. To then realise it is a three mile walk home and I hadn't arranged a lift :(

To be fair, the process was very efficient, I can see why folk do use them but the cost of that convenience is a pretty big cut.

Oh boohoo, you only got £700 for a fucked car. I'd say that's alright.

The 'perfectly working' Scenic 4x4 I was considering buying last week is now being advertised as having the prop taken off. Just as well then.

It's just for fuel efficiency, though. No other reason whatsoever. Nope.

I'm not grumping, i would have struggled to sell it privately so it was this or the auctions. it was interesting going through the process, and it was pretty painless, their cars go straight to auction (they are owned by bca) so appearance is probably more relevant than the mechanicals anyway. I'm glad to be able draw a line under this one, I paid too much for it and always had a sinking feeling that I'd bought a pup.

ho hum, onwards and upwards

I am picking up for spare alloys for the MV6, for £40 on my way home tomorrow. NOT told wife yet, and not mentioned the plan to spend £200 on winter tyres and £80 (max) on Checking and potential Realignment of suspension.

Still waiting for the Pants Hat shots ....

IMG_6047_zpsg3jsjcae.jpg

The full combo of driving glove socks, driving hat pants and bonus snood pants.

I wasn't like this purely 'cos I look cool as. Last night was -17C and all my washing had frozen overnight in the kitchen on the clothes horse so this was all the available clothes.

I also had three pairs of socks employed in their natural habitat but this was partly to pad a painful toe, injured in a midnight assault by a chair. It's only at night, in the dark, that you discover the true spiteful nature of furniture.

I'm shit at bangernomics, i've just spent £760 on my battered turd of a vectra.

Cambelt kit, waterpump, thermostat, aux belt and a clutch pipe (the one inside the gearbox) all genuine vauxhall bits.

This follows on from £460 not long ago on a clutch+dmf+concentric bearing.

I could have bought some grade A chod with that.

Better the devil you know sometimes though and it really is a cracking car for what use it for.

Just need to change the rear upper arms now......and the TREs....and droplinks.......and roll bar bushes, probaly has a snapped spring as well because vauxhall.

Think there's a good chance i'll end up spending £2000 on a £200 car.

You are not a Bangernomicist, you are a Durable Car Ownership Believer.

You buy a car that was £20K new, for £200, spend £2000 on it, which incidentally is the same depreciation per year that the same car has cost previous owners, and you've gradually breathed new life into the thing. Lets assume it now has another 5 years life on all those items, Well that's only £400 a year, so quids in.

Same reason I've started throwing money at the Omega.  These were £36K plus when new. I can't justifiy loosing £3 to 4K a year in depreciation, but I can justifiy £1000 a year on properly done repairs.  I might change my mind, but I like the car, so no bangernomics on this one.

Note : It's always the Vauxhalls though isn't it.

I do actually, much maligned as they are i've found my vectra to be a cracking car (and this from a long term ford fanboi) it's comfy, quick, does 50mpg, and parts are peanuts.

I'm going to sell the e28, blue 305, white c15, possibly the red 305 and possibly the ranger. I've had enough of shite cars....

£500 for that? Good work! Are you signing up for a new Kia on finance?

That was heavy 'negotiation' I have used them before and got more than I should have for a Megane Scenic. just be glad it is gone and you can get what you want!

You need to stop bitching about WEBAC, we all know they're crooks.

The only way you win is if you "sell" them a mechanically fucked car, you did that.

Am I right in thinking that any private buyer would walk away from your A3 owing to it sounding like a skeleton wanking in a biscuit tin when going over bumps?

If so, you won.

Someone bought your car without knowing about all the faults.

I won when WEBAC bought a Range Rover from me that had a porus/ cracked cylinder head, they paid below book but about four times it's true value.

Keep the receipts though. My Range Rover went through a speed trap in Kent uphill off a roundabout at 112mph three days after WEBAC bought it in Aberdeen.

My Civic I bought from a garage was bought from WBAC - I know cause I saw the paperwork accidentaly when they gave the history folder to me! In 4.5 years it's been very reliable. But then it was only 4 years old when I bought it.

One of the key selling points was that they just had it in, so hadn't given it their "valet". Which I wanted, as I wanted to see how the last owner treated it and usually find it as a good sign. Plus they used shit silicon spray everywhere when they did.

Why blankets and a cover? You shouldn't cover a car with blankets. They'll hold moisture against the paintwork and you'll get eventually get microblistering and/or lacquer peel.

Did a little job in a sleepy Dorset village yesterday and was directed to the "tradesmens" entrance "round the back" Whilst having a well earned fag break I noticed through a window a 1930s Aston martin in the garage next door with an old giffer in a set of oily brown overalls making something on an equally old overhead belt driven lathe...... took me back to being 6 years old hanging around the local garage and made me grin all day. I don't care what people say about us olduns remembering the past with rose tinted specs.... life was better 50 years ago when I was a nipper....

What I meant was that I'm trying to stop buying completely fucked cars that need loads doing to them. I will not be getting a kia on finance.

Yup I keep trying that too but never works although my problem is I buy to many blind on the sellers word, by the time I've rocked up with the trailer I don't see the point in going hame empty handed.

Just cleaned the cab area of the Berlingo. Can't complain as it was a builder's van and I'd seen it before I bought it, but by God, it was minging. All being well I won't contract beriberi now and a Brucie Bonus of £1.69 in cold hard cash was discovered inside.
