Hit a breakers today and snaffled up an Escort 1.8 DIZZLER fuel filter for the XM. The primer button all seemed to work OK so I stuck it on in the works car park at home time, Fecked up the bleeding and had to ring Mrs LT to come and give me a jump start, for some reason she brought the Mother in Law with her who was sat in the passenger seat with her arms folded muttering things about old cars. Of course it was now absolutely pissing down by that point so I got soaked,

All seems to be working fine and the Escort filter housing seems to flow veg oil with no problems at all. I think the original purflux filter must have been leaking air for a while and gradually getting worse as the XM has never run so well.

RESULT, although I'm now sat at home in my pants as I was piss wet through,

The old girl burst into life despite the arctic conditions. Oh, and the gaffa tape repaired battery that i exploded the other day. But then it ran out of fuel and needed much bleeding and subsequent winding so the disco had to provide some amperage.

Had an Alfa 166 FTP this morning, fired up and then died. Wrongly assumed it was a dry fuel tank (light had been on for a while but wasnt yet indicating empty)- i came back tonight, dutifully added some fuel from a jerry can but it doesnt want to know. Half starts , stutters for a few seconds then stops. This has now made me put my arse in gear with the Range Rover. After being more or less abandoned on the street for quite a few weeks, I lobbbed a new battery on and after much cranking it spluttered into life. Running like a sack of shit I had a browse around the engine and found arcing across the coil, swapped over the king lead for a spare; now its running spot on and my new daily driver. After the Alfa went on strike I had to borrow SWMBOs car to get to work today, which was embarrasing as her parents are round from Germany after the arrival of another Essexman jr. I could read their expressions (roughtly translated from the German as buy a new car on finance FFS)

Could it have picked up a load of crap from the bottom of the tank?

I'm just back from collecting a set of nearly new winter tyres for the Polo.

They went to £87 thanks to the snow yesterday, still cheaper than buying a set of random part worns and getting them fitted. I wish they weren't Hankook but they have to be a lot better than the ditchfinders it's wearing just now.

Thanks to Lacquer Peel for flagging up the listing.

I've always rated Hankooks quite highly and have been thinking about getting a spare set of Hankook winter tyres for the other halfs Lexus, are there winters tyres shite?

Decided last minute to put the Astra in my council garage for the winter. It was quite dirty though so took it through the car wash at tescos at about 8 o'clock just round the corner. Halfway through it ripped the drivers door mirror off and it was hanging by it's cable. Also had the dog with me who decided to go nuts. Anyway, away safe and sound now. Then thought whether it was a good idea to store a car away soaking wet? I am imagining seized on brakes!

I had a bad experience with their van tyres on my last Transit, and it does seem that their commercial tyres had an issue with sidewall strength for a while. I think their car tyres should be fine though.

Get it out again: quick run up a fast road to dry it off, store in gear with handbrake off :)

Finished the T4 's rear brakes. Even  more shagged out than i thought  ,only looked through the holes in the wheels .. Amazingly the handbrake was still as good as the day it was made in 2000 . These have done 145k .  Brake pedal is a bit higher too with the  new discs . :-D

Today I have been on a small island with no cars at all.

Not one single sodding motor. Except a few mini diggers. Cars are over rated. Bring on 200 years ago.

I have a pair of 14" toyo snowprox's I would sell cheap, they are perhaps a bit big though at 195/65.

What would be a 'sensible' and not too expensive cheap way to get an MOT failure car from Manchester to Dundee?

Seen what I could pass off as a 'parts car', and obviously never intent to use as a parts car, and have started wondering what if.......

Failed on needing welding in various places! Failed in June and parked up since.

It would appear, that apart from the new 'spare' key taking a bewildering amount of time to come from Bentley, my car is FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seat ecu has turned up and been re-fitted (all working), waxoyled, everything.

I may have to go and collect it very soon.....

When you think about the depreciation on a new luxury car, what you've spent on the Bentley pales in comparison. Enjoy it!

Exactly. The list price of my Puke is £19,000. I valued it the other day and if I traded it in (it's 1 year old) I'd get £11,500. VALUE!

You do of course realise that Bentley do not do anything pleb like, such as cut a new key from a random blank on a machine. They have a chap in a brown overall to go back to the stores for the original batch of steel laid down when they built your car. Then a small piece is cut off and taken to the spotless room where an elderly, time-served, chap sits in front of a large magnifying glass with the original blueprint of your key, and with a small hand file and micrometer lovingly recreates an exact replica.

Work like this takes time, you can't rush these things.

Don't you mean "send your man round to collect it"!?

... No, send your WALLET round and, after unseemly 'rape & pillage' of aforesaid, motor will be left running with drivers door ajar.... ;)

Well if it is safe to drive why not insure it and book an m.o.t and drive said vehicle to the "pre booked m.o.t" but stop at your house, it's got to be the cheapest way

Is there a roofrack to fit the Rover R8?  I realised today that it might be the first car I've owned I can't put a roofrack on.
