The passenger side door mirror needs replacing on my V6 but it looks a ball ache getting to all the connectors inside the door card?

I didn't take the panel completely off, just undid the 2 screws and pulled the trim away at the front edge - from there I was able to release the trim bit underneath, and get somewhat awkward access to the 2 nuts and 1 bolt holding the mirror on.  Should have taken 15 minutes but the old mirror left a stud behind, preventing the new one from going on.  I'll probably have to shear it off to get it out.

I went to Saltburn hillclimb today, was alright for a freeby though more of a gathering than competition. Railton, Bentleys, the Golden model T Ford, Frazer-Nash plus more modern stuff. Loadsa bikes, though I'm not a bike type. Sorry no pics, too many arses in the way. Bonus Benelli Sei 750/6 and my favourite, a 1970 Corvette convertible parked on the road nearby.

I replaced the drivers wing mirror on my Z3 today and also repainted the new/secondhand one and I bought it online from a car breaker site for £57 with delivery which is an absolute bargain price and although the glass had got broken in transit the mirror was off a very late one and was as good as new..

I had to cut the old one off as although it looked ok someone had actually reinforced the skeleton of the mirror with fibre grass matting and Micky metal plus a bit of filler for good measure and had to go very careful with a hacksaw as I wanted to use the existing wiring which was going through the middle..

I used a good quality etch primer and bought the correct colour from halfords plus some 2000 wet and dry and lacquer only to find that after I had got the mirror in the sunlight after doing the repaint and had used up all my lacquer that the colour was more grey than black and it seemed that the halfords paint had no pigmentation.

So In the back of my shed I had a couple of cans of pound shop gloss black and decided to use that as I hadn't anything to lose and the colour match came up perfect with a mirror finish and the results look fantastic and I doubt if a better result could of been achieved if I had paid a paint shop to do the repair..

So I'm more than happy with today's progress and the oven came in useful for putting the freshly painted mirrors in to dry..

The Revival was bloody awesome. Classic looks, perfect period adornments ATCWBE.

I know one could get overwhelmed by the vulgarity of so much vastly expensive metal being thrashed around a track, but the TT Trophy, with snarling E-Types and Cobras sliding about the place, was one of the best motoring spectacles that I have ever seen.

I also found some Autoshite and will repot on that when I get home. Another long day in the Dyane ahead!

I did manage to spot you Ian, which is no mean achievement amongst such huge crowds. But I was on one of the tractor trailers at the time being taken around the circuit (SWBMOs feet were hurting, I did say to wear flats....) and didn't get a chance to shout out.

The whole day was brilliant, I enjoyed people watching as much as the racing what with everyone dolled up. It did take us ages to find the car on the way back though, as at 7.30am I was too dead in the head to note where we'd parked. Another plus of owning shite is you spot it eventually, no chance if I was in a silver Audi.

Ah, sorry Rob. I was probably too spaced out to notice. All part of the hippy look you see...

Some of the outfits were fabulous. But I was getting checked out quite a lot too. The tie dye outfit worked a treat.

You looked GR12, and were munching on a pork bap or something at the time, a man engrossed in his food!

Yours was no doubt loads cheaper than mine, I'll lob up some pics at some point.  My brother said I looked like the Man From Del Monte, cheers for that, not quite the look I was after ( I was in 50s Yank garb).

You, dressing up* as a hippy sounds similar to when Classic Land Rover published a picture of my Dad and his missus at the 65th anniversary run ,captioned ' this couple really got into the spirit of the day with their outfits'

My Dad was so offended, they hadn't dressed up.

Is buying a used car that was a cheap car when it was new a waste of time?

I've been trying to help my friend get his 02 Yaris through an MoT test, it's really rusty underneath and you can see where they've cut corners with poor quality parts. He put it in for a test and they won't accept it because the fuel filler neck is rusty but not leaking (?!)

My 1997 V70 was a lot more expensive when it was new and you can tell, apart from a bit of surface rust on the boot floor it's rust free underneath and all of the fixings are high quality.

They've both lived in Scotland their whole lives and the Volvo has more miles.

Volvos for everyone in Scotland, that's what I say.

Don't forget the Heritage Imp Movement, an important part of Scotlandshire's history and social development, that.

I have a Loan car today while my car is in the garage, a 1997 Xantia SX TD the interesting bit is it has only done 32,000 miles and drive like its mileage, smooth quite, rattle free and I am enjoying it.

To be fair, I did make a little more effort than normal...

I have to thank Mrs DW for the outfit. I probably already have on this forum somewhere. I'm very tired. 652 miles in the Dyane since Saturday morning. Amazing. I will get a full report done, but not now, because Twitter is broken and all of my pics are on there.

My mum rang me late last night to tell me how much she likes my Rover 75. She still thinks the only thing posher than a Rover is a Rolls Royce, bless her!

A very kind gentleman has brought me a red Land Rover. I apologise to Spud if I came across as a complete nutter, especially when I momentarily forgot where the railway station is, but I am not good with people. The Land Rover is as described and I am very pleased. Top seller +++ etc. I have just got back from the other house having fitted the Ifor Williams top and now tightened the J bolts that hold it on. They were only finger tight as a complete spanner forgot that he had already brought his spanners over to this house.

In case anyone is not familiar with Land Rovers, that is not a scale model oil refinery on the bonnet, but somewher to fix the spare wheel.

Let me somehow be the first to congratulate you. That looks effing epic. Even better than in the FS thread now it's got a tin hat on. I hope you're taking it straight up a slag heap and then through a shallow slow moving river.

I've got half the roof pipe job done on the pug. The next bit is reconnecting the small ram and the fiddly task of refitting the ram to the car.

So far with the Land Rover I have not driven up any slag heaps, (the slags are not in a heap, but are spread rather more evenly around here), nor have I forded any streams/rivers. I have however taken it to work and braved the car-park by Greggs. There was a minor problem with a rear indicator not working, where I have reconnected the wires that had come loose, and the fixed the reverse lamp at the same time as the wires were loose on that as well. I'm really impressed with it, it drives very nicely and actually goes where you point it, without wandering all over the place, unlike some of the older ones I've had.

Whilst I would still love another Series 1, I think I have done the right thing for my current circumstances by buying a more civilised one.

Had a brief look at the A4's headlights, comapring the wiring and bulb layouts.

We have 3 different types: prefacelift H4 (bought these cheap as the car's light had broken mounting clips), prefacelift H7 with an extra bulb (??? original lights, we've only got 1), and facelift projector (1 got, expecting another to arrive soon).

Prefacelift lights have a 5 pin plug for lights and a 3 pin plug for dip motors, the projector consolidates these into an 8 pin plug with pin 8 blanked.

Comparing the car's (prefacelift) wiring loom to the projector lamp, the 8th wire has nowhere to go.

Turns out on prefacelift cars, if you specced foglights, then you got different headlight units with an extra bulb as opposed to auxiliary lights (the facelift got these, and that's why the 8th pin is blanked - it goes off elsewhere instead).

Stupid eh? We thought the car had lost its foglights when it had the front bumper bodged - nope, they were just weirdly placed and we removed them without realising. They'll be reinstated as projector plus auxiliary if we ever get the facelift front bumper on.

A customer that owns a 66 sunbeam alpine rings me up and says I'm having trouble with my headlights, I've tried adjusting them but they're so low

I was surprised when he turned up in his 15 plate Ford Focus, he was talking about his new car, put it on the beam tester and they are on 2.75% when on zero, set them to 5 and they're lighting up the floor.

A bit of twiddling with a 7mm Allen key and I had them set up right.

I was quite surprised that it had a plastic slam panel too, it was a 999cc 3 pot petrol turbo

Our 20 year old A4 has a fibreglass slam panel, not too surprising really.

H7 bulbs are shit, you should avoid using them if at all possible. I have a conspiracy theory that H7s were used purely to groom the market for HiD.
