Not likely for a while, I was out on an extended road test and did a second lap.

Ah, one of the newer tenants who we have not interacted with have the car sales place behind the neighbours warehouse. Did you buy? I’m not entirely sure what’s going on over there - they’re not officially a tenant.

No, I work for another company up by Foxhills golf course. I was out in one of the cars we have for sale applying a few finishing touches.

This strikes me as a proposal made by people who think if they say something should be so it can be, if they wish hard enough. Also that the people involved don't understand the laws of physics.

How can a tyre have the same wet weather braking grip at 1.6mm tread depth as when it was new with 7 or 8mm depth?

The way I read it is that if the current wet weather braking grip standard is X, whatever that is, part worns will now have to meet X. I assume that a new tyre would therefore have X+ levels of grip as the tread would be deeper.

Currently, according to estimates from tyre maker Michelin, 50 per cent of car tyres are removed and replaced before they’ve reached a residual tread depth of 3mm. This is still well above the legal minimum

Yeah, usually cause they're either cheap shit, or cracked to buggery in my experience. The Golf has 5mm tread 2019 dated budgets on it, but they're in no way safe. It's not a 'waste' and they don't need to be 'saved', they're not fit for purpose.

I can't see myself obsessively monitoring the depth down to 1.6 to save the planet, I like to have tyres with tread.

Had another go at the manky moped... runs... cuts out ..won't start... etc etc.. remembered I had a generic ebay special carburettor so put that on , then it kept flooding it twist throttle so swapped the throttle slide and needle and after few kicks it fired up and would run... a bit fast but  hey ho..  finally a bit positive

Sounds like a good idea to be fair but as @Ghosty says,  it's only going to be useful if they can make the tyres a bit more UV stable so they aren't cracking up after 5 years.

Another one done.

I had to fit a new wheel bearing in the end as the broken bolt was not going to come out in a hurry - I would have burned my drill out trying to get through the bloody thing.  Bearing was only 20 quid but I had to borrow a 46mm socket off a mate to get the hub nut off as my sockets don't go anywhere near that big.  Easy enough job though, nothing was seized and the whole process including running it to the garage for the retest took less than an hour.

We've just had a rebel ice cream van in the Close. The regular one is a standard Whitby Morrison Sprinter that plays Whistle While You Work. Today I heard Just One Cornetto and thought that's not right. This was followed by the death rattle of an elderly Transit and this ambled past.

The regular guy had a rough looking one of these himself until he upgraded to the Merc a year or so back.

Slippery slope to this?

We had a thread on here about ice cream wars some years ago but I've not seen it in a long time.

Last thing I heard/saw was a fairly recent film that kind of referenced them but I guess the advent of the mobile phone and Ubers make drug dealing so much easier ....

We had a similar war with sandwich vans at a former workplace.

For the first year or so, the same ageing bright red signwritten Vito would turn up, playing Love Theme from The Godfather, staffed by a very friendly slightly older woman. One day she disappeared from the van and some bloke took it over. About a month later, suddenly we hear a very fast La Cucaracha in the car park. Same woman from before except in a brand new plain white Vito. Turns out she'd been finished for questioning something about workplace pensions, and was going through tribunal, which I think she won, had set up with a bloke who ran a van hire firm and would let her run things how she saw fit and was doing her old route! I left that company in late 2019, and after Covid that company left that office, so I don't imagine she's there now.

Interestingly, in the brief window of time between me starting at my current employer and Covid, we had an M&S sandwich van turn up at our office. Bit upmarket for us, really, but there was a fancy law firm in the office above us. Still not sure why they bothered - we were in the middle of Nottingham city centre, less than 5 minutes walk from the station and various food places, and at worst a 5-10 minute walk from a large M&S store with a food section.

Shit video but I nearly missed it..

What drove past me today?

White VW Transporter, chevrons on the tailgate but no branding at all, however had blue police lights all round and was overtaking traffic.  Some sort of contraption on the roof - looked almost like a folding satellite dish - pause the video to see what I mean.

Likely a comms/command unit. Think they are sometimes used at large events or during large operations so said unit doing whatever can operate all comms for it on its own band, not the general police one.

Have a look on iPlayer for The Ice Cream Wars, two documentary programmes on the subject. They give a different perspective and suggest it had nothing to do with drugs.
