I'm putting the engine back together on a Picasso if that's of interest, 55 plate. Will be cheap.

May well be - send me details once it's back together and I'll see what the score is

My parents have offered me their car - 2010 Audi A4 2.0 tdi for £3k. Currently has a lumpy idle but they're going to try getting that fixed before selling it to me.

I'm no VAG fan, it's done 160k miles and really don't want another diesel. However it's a pretty smart looking car still and cartakeback will pay £2.1k in scrap as a non-runner.

I'll probably will go for it, as a replacement for the Laguna. Laguna is far less a liability mind!

Saved from a pineappled future! Spotted on gumtree for £495 so went and bought it this afternoon. 33779e607efd3a6989b3516685ed364e.jpgb47659d7001f46fb8069ab9c209c30c3.jpg

Anyone want this "bit of a dog" of an FSO? Still polish registered I think but probably stupid cheap. They've had it about three months apparently but this is the first time I've seen it. I was at another yard and  mentioned this car and learnt that the owner of the other yard used to be an FSO dealer and might still have loads of brochures and stuff if anyone wants those.

Just six tickets remaining on Cabriolet raffle.

I'd be happy to take a delayed payment on tickets to regular and trusted posters.

Roll up. Roll up.

Is it as tidy as it looked on Gumshite? Plenty o' beige.

I think the ex-Smellypoo / Moog Mondeo's days are numbered sadly.  Finally persuaded the diagnostic software to install on my netbook (laptop 1 wouldn't install it at all and laptop 2 only had COM ports from 14 upwards available - the software only goes up to 8 ). Plugged it in and it threw up fault code P2336 - Cylinder 1 above knock threshold.  The software will clear the code, but it comes back again as soon as the ignition is turned on (before even starting the engine).  Google reckons that this points to a shagged injector, and seeing that to get a new injector fitted and coded is more than what I paid for the car, I don't think I can be arsed.  Annoyingly, on post-2004 Mondeos, the software I have can be used to recode injectors, but on a 2002 car it's some main dealer only wizardry.

Fitted The Volvo's new wheeltrims this evening. They look so much better than the old ones, which incidentally came off my erstwhile 940 Wentworth, as did the wheels and tyres:

They'll look even better when the car gets a set of new tyres next week. The tyre in the photo will be going in the boot as the spare, as it's the best one out of the four currently fitted to the car :)

300 mile round-trip to Port Talbot today, to look at a Merc CLK in 'immaculate condition'.  Clocked the overspray, masking tape and knife-and-fork applied wob within about 30 seconds of arriving.  It also sported an extremely shiny set of Chinese ditch-finders, there must have been a dozen layers of tyre shine on them.  Still, I went to Wales, in a Jaguar, and it didn't rain and there were no breakdowns - I'm counting that as an achievement.

MrsDs ridiculously efficient and unbreakable Yaris passed its MOT this morning, needed discs and pads, centre part of exhaust and a rear wheel bearing. Just over £500 all in including a full service which seemed fair. Amazing that a 14 year old car has no rust and has only needed service items so far in all those years.

I changed the PT cruisers lower wishbones, rear shockers and headlight bulbs today and gave it a good polish too all in a day. So rather pleased with myself. Car is now all shiny and ready for the little Cruiser day out in Dorset I arrange once a year and once again it is going to be sunny and warm. God smiles on PT Cruisers 8)

Cant really go wrong at that money, youd make your £3k plus more back all day long on one of these, combination of Audi badge and the fact that they are effectively the same bar a couple of minor differences to the ones that were current right up until a year or so ago, means they appeal to the champagne tastes lemonade budget masses who just want an Audi badge for supposed kudos and status symbol, a quick check online shows older 09 and 59 plate, same spec ones of these retailing at 2nd hand dealers for more than double what your parents have offered you theirs for with around 100/110K miles on them.

Id imagine they run the same block as my car which goes well enough and decent mpg, only downside is its goddamn DPF, 2.0 CR TDi with CBD- engine code id imagine, either a 136ps "eco" version, 143ps or a 170 on the Audi, whilst the VWs are 110bhp, 138bhp (sold as 140s though) or 170bhp.

Dunno what SE spec equates to on Audis but on that age of VWs it usually means looks high spec with alloys, colour coding and chrome exterior detailing, a wee bit of spec like all round electric windows, cruise control, auto lights/rain sensor, and thats your whack, no MFSW, highline dash, bluetooth, digital radio, USB, climate control or anything. Quite a nice smooth refined drive though, and id imagine its on 16" wheels for more comfort than the 18/19" rimmed S-Line ones.

Long as its not the troublesome multitronic it should be OK.

Anyone interested in a 57 Plate Diahatsu Materia? Just passed it's mot with a few advisories.

Looking for 1200 quid. Will put up a better advert if anyone is interested

I read that as 'Malaria' which would have explained the brand's disappearance from the UK. Must remove paint spray from my reading glasses.

It's an s-line manual in black, with factory tinted windows in the back. So has ridiculous 18" alloys. Quite why a diesel A4 needs a "sporty spec" is beyond me. I'll probably flog those alloys and stick some 17" on. Hopefully will make it a bit more comfortable. Can't go any smaller as the s-line has bigger discs (again why?!).

They've owned it from 6 months old and bought it as a ex-demo. Full service history for what it's worth...

It also all depends on if they can get the current fault fixed too. Currently has a rough idle. Almost like it isn't firing on all cylinders. Doesn't do it all the time though. Unfortunately despite me telling my dad to not to, he's sent it to the Audi dealer to have the emission fix put on. Which makes me wonder if it's current fault maybe related. Hopefully it's just an air leak or EGR sticking.

It's also a bit modern for Autoshite.

A very good van day yesterday, the Hiace now sports one new side window as of Thursday afternoon, it should be two but one was damaged on delivery so I have to take it back next week for that one to go in the side door but it's already made a huge difference.  I celebrated yesterday by refitting the bed I had to rip out after giving the whole interior a thoroughly good hoovering out, pulling it all out was a tad depressing but it had to be done to avoid it getting damaged while the window hole was cut and it did all come out easily enough.

The other big improvement was the arrival of my new (old) steering lock off eBay to replace the one that jammed solid a couple of months ago.  I've struggled to find a sensibly-priced replacement as spare parts for Hiaces are relatively thin on the ground and prices can be rather silly.  I got one in the end for £73, hardly a bargain but with a brand new lock fitted from the set I recently bought, I no longer have to start the van with a screwdriver and have been able to refit all the trim around the steering column which makes it a lot nicer and more civilised inside.  I now have brand new, matching locks in the driver's door and ignition, just the other 3 doors to do once I can face it, it's a horrible job as access is almost non-existent.

I'm still trying to recover all the build photos I took as they're stuck in my old works iCloud account, once I have them I'll update the van's thread as it's changed a fair bit from the battered roofers van it once was.

Clunking / rattle from the front passenger side of the focus. Only does it over rough road surfaces not big bumps etc.

Also does it when you reverse and dab the brakes. Doesn't make any noise if you drive with a bit of pressure on the brake pedal

Def the caliper, I replaced the drop links, lower arms and wheel bearing recently. Before doing the work I assumed the noise was the drop link but it's still there....

Minor news from the Octavia, currently being used as a house removals mule by my sister in Wales, the clonking from the rear suspension which developed a few weeks ago is causing her some alarm.  I have pointed out that 200,000 miles, the latter 10k of which have mostly been on country lanes, will do that but as a precaution it's going to a Skizzer-recommended garage on Tuesday for a quick inspection before it goes bombing down the motorway back home next weekend.  I suspect a worn bush, the front springs are sagging and frankly it could do with a full set of springs and shocks all round but it'll have to wait a while for that, as long as it's safe it can manage a few more months until finances are in a better state.

If you get shot of the S-Line wheels, let me know as Id be interested, decided I want new wheels for my car, but dont want to go aftermarket and theres no VW OEM wheels I like that havent already been done to death, so am now looking at Skoda, Audi and Seat OEMs.

BMC Gaydon today

For me the most amazing sight today was 10 Austin 3 Litres together and one more on site.

Land Crabs put on a good display as well.

For me car of the show was the Allegro SS, even though it had had a colour change from white.

My MG Metro had it first proper run including a bit of M40 and drove very well. I followed my friend in his Mini 1000 so while I was running it gently as the engine has be apart it just looked like I was being held up!
