After laying up the Petrol PT for the last 6 months over the winter it was time to pump up the tyres and make sure it starts before its visit to the garage tomorrow for a new cambelt and water pump before going for its MOT. Reconnected the Battery and it started first time and immediately settled down to a lovely smooth idle....... :-P

Triumph herald ?

Spitfire I believe, so same difference really. Not sure why this has cropped up again after five years! Not a dig at the poster, it's re-appeared in several places over the past day or two.

I have managed to 'burp' the Rover 75's coolant system I think!

The level now remains midway in the expansion tank after a journey.

No great deal generally, but good news to me!

Will try to 'burp' the MG similarly .

I decided a while back that when the Escort insurance and CT lapsed at the end of March I would scrap it, but I have not been able to find anything I can be arsed owning to replace it with. Needs to be practical-ish but shabby that I can use for work....ie I can fling a few bags of cement in the boot, not care about parking dings, leave it in airport parking for weeks/months without worry etc.

Fed up having to mow around the Escort as it slowly kills a rectangle of lawn, I took it for CT today. Plenty of minor advisories, but it only failed on uneven tyre wear, so shoving a pair of my winter tyres on it will see an unexpected pass.

I guess I will keep using it for now. I have definitely got my moneys worth out of it, having bought it two years ago for 200euros, spent 150 on a replacement engine the week after buying it, and just a few consumables since then. Bored of it though, but I have literally no idea what else to buy.....I will just see what turns up within budget and reasonable distance. Perhaps the roffle gods will smile on me again, although I dont see much that takes my fancy there either.

First proper drive of the ZT (into deepest Cornwall for a lecture) confirms duff thermostat, but also confirms what a cracking drive it is......

My flatmate's brother in law managed to overturn his Clio in a quiet residential street this morning. Excess speed and lack of attention can have unfortunate consequences:

Luckily, he wasn't badly injured and he managed not to hit the Volvo 740 in the foreground. I bet that he'll have 'the book' thrown at him, though.

How the hell did he manage that!? Hopefully nobody was hurt though.

I doubt very much a Clio would damage a Volvo 740 at any speed, itd be like a fly hitting a windscreen!

I can only assume he was speeding, had to take evasive action to avoid the black Audi (which was pulling out of the car park of a school) and hit a parked car, a collision which caused his car to flip. I'm sure that the police were really impressed.

Anyone on here going to Japfest on Sunday? That's what I'm up to this weekend. I've got to be at Silverstone at 6:30am for a team briefing, so later in the day, I may well look knackered. Then I have to drive back to Wales. Might be testing those bed/seats again...

I'll be in Wales, but I think the chap I bought my Gamma from is going in his identical one.

I walk past this unloved modern every morning when walking the dog and each time I wonder to myself why it sits there with it's tyres flat looking sad and abandoned when it still has an mot? Has someone died or gone missing or has it had a massive ftp? What's it's story? It looks in good nick overall.

Changed the fuel filter in my Ibiza today. Old one had a manufacturing stamp of 2012 on it. This is what I emptied out of it, and there was still some "diesel" left in the bottom of the old filter.

I was reading an interesting article from FB (no, honestly, they do exist) of a visit to an Italian car specialist in New York, where the writer had been driven there by Jamie Kitman, in his 1988 205 GTI. Remembering enjoying his witterings from the back page of CAR magazine back when it was good and knowing he has a stonking car collection, I did a bit of googling and found a link to his Instagram photos, which are a good way of whiling away far too much time and spotting such gems as a beige Mini Metro plying the streets of New York!!!

A local driving instructor managed exactly the same thing shoving someones parked Corsa 10 meters up the road.

Apparently he wasn't speeding (which is utter bollocks obviously). Back out in a brand new dual control Mini about two days later.

Because I'm an idiot I've forgotten the XM MOT expires on the 28th.

In theory It's not a mahoosive problem as it's only getting light use at the minute.

In practice where I am concerned lapsed MOT tends to take the pressure off me to fix cars for some reason - when you are using a car you notice the niggles and fix them quicker as they are annoying you. Rolling resto works for me.

With it effectively off the road then I start thinking I'll tackle all of the jobs and start stripping bits off with gusto then get drawn back into real life.

I really need to just book an MOT and get on with the basics

"Like" for the success rather than mug shot  :-P

Slightly short-lived - the treatment went too far. On the plus side I can now check my nearside mirror AND look straight ahead at the same time ;)

Oh yeah. Know that scenario well. OTOH it's also irksome taking a car for MoT knowing it might not be 100%...

Then three years later you realise the car hasn't been used for ages and hasn't been touched and you just spent another £500 on a banger "because you didn't have a working car"

This Cadillac is deeply unpopular . I've got it on all the usual sites for a week and only had 2 messages both asking for 1/3rd off the asking price.

More popular than my Xantia was when I was trying to sell it.

Luckily for it, I've decided I can live with LHM suspension forever now, and my default state of car ownership has always tended to be a shabby PSA group diesel of some sort, so it's fitting right in anyway.

Is it like wheel alignment for the eyeballs RK?

Same here.  It looks even more out of place than it would on a modern day street in the UK, and is therefore of maximum winnage.

I wonder if that Metro was the same as this one:

Or is it that RobT took a wrong turning one evening and ended up in America?

I know we had a threads ome time back about how some Americans were buying British crap, exporting them and driving them over there. I seem to remember a picture of an R3 Rover 200/400 pictured over in the States.

I've just used Blackcircles for the first time. I paid £43 for a 195/50/15 Avon ZV7 tyre, £20 cheaper than most places, I booked my time slot at the ATS around the corner, turned up, they were waiting for me, fitted the tyre, gave me my receipt and i was home having a cup of coffee 20 mintues later.

You just can't knock service like that. WOULD USE AGAIN A+++++

My Citroen ZX just went straight through its mot with no advisories either. Fast pass on the emissions too. My mot tester I've been going to for nearly 30 years is retiring in 3 weeks, so going to try my hardest to get the BX down to him for a test before then.

fleet update -

mini still been an ungrateful little sod by been slightly broken. it is a snapped throttle cable, the leak from heater still to be identified. BUT all replacement new parts boughted, the seats are out and carpets up to dry off, now for a nice day to get the jobs done.

rover 75 now has new tyres on the back, old balding and still just about legal ones binned.

metro, IT LIVES!! IT RUNS!! IT DRIVES!! had the distributor off and in bits. points cleaned and gapped, gap was almost as wide as the grand canyon plus there was a coating of surface rust under the rotor arm. cleaned off and re-assembled. car started up on the first turn of the key.....

the little tinker!!
