Well after last week's shambles that is we buy any car. Today I went to we want your car and got offered £1.200 more than what. So deal done modern and finance now gone. So I celebrated by going to browse a local car dealer of immaculate reputation* and came away with a 51 plate honda 2.0 ltr petrol crv. Got back and my wife said. So you got rid of the car and came back with a car ? Yes dear that's what you do. So my plan of using the crv for winter and the hiace for summer is coming along nicely.

Yeap I introduced it to the fold. That is one lucky ZT it was so close to the bridge and now it is getting the love that it hasn't seen in years. Well done Mr Beard the bloody thing was fighting me all the time trying to get it back on the road. Now it can relax in a warm bath of waxoyl.

Today I managed to fit 20 dough trays in the 205, they said it couldn't be done! I say it can!

However later it decided going an entire shift without going wrong wasn't on.

 

A correctly sized pinch bolt and yet more gearbox oil got it back on the go. Hopefully that's the end of that saga and something different will go wrong next time.

Isn't that the second time the arm has parted company with the hub? I'd be suspecting the pinch joint not the bolt at this point, if it's worn then it won't ever clamp properly.

Both times it's punched a hole through the bolt, as far as we can tell because the bolt was too small so didn't hold it snugly. Comparing it to the other side it definitely was a smaller bolt.

Of course I could be proved wrong, hopefully not while delivering pizza in the middle of one of the busiest shifts ever.

Those hubs are a bastard for wearing, really common issue. If it's worn then it'll never clamp up right. You can get them repaired somewhere.

I'm with SOC on this one - I would be amazed if the balljoint hole in the hub isn't ovalled/deformed. Certainly I would check/measure it carefully.

I wouldn't drive that Peugeot a yard until I knew that hub / track control arm issue was properly sorted.

Yeah, that's what happens when it isn't clamping due to wear - the bolt isn't designed to hold it all together, just to clamp the taper shut so the balljoint can rip past it if it isn't seating properly.

Bloody Kia is beginning to piss me off. Now setting off engine management light when warmed up sat in traffic. Just code PO 300 which is 'random multiple misfires' but today the car didn't misfire! It carried on running perfectly well but the EML was flashing away like a good 'un. MOT is due in a few weeks and I don't suppose it'll pass with the light on will it? Also, there are a variety of rattles and clunks from the front that sound ominous so I am not hopeful for an easy pass!

 

Anyone want a KIA?

It will pass with the EML on as long as the emissions are in limits

MIL isn't part of the test, it can be on or flashing and it isn't an issue as long as it runs well enough to pass the emission test. Clunking noises from the front however...

How recently has it been serviced? I'm 3/3 in clearing EML warnings with spark plug and air filter changes. One day this won't work but it is a cheap start point.

Main problem is that I just don't like the car that much! If it was the Bentley or the MX5 it would be being looked at instantly (usually at vast expense) and repaired before it had misfired twice! I just cannot get excited about the Kia and the thought of spending money on it fills me with dread and loathing. This is, I guess, how 'normal' people feel about their cars all the time? The BGD and the MX5 get washed and polished at least once a week (well, maybe not polished    ) but I can't remember the last time I washed the Kia and the back seat is filthy, the car pongs inside something chronic but with the windows down, I don't notice! I think there's a load of stuff in the boot as well but...

 

Nothing against it, just doesn't excite me, or irritate me, or anything. I am indifferent to it and that in itself shocks me!

 

I suppose I will get it repaired and mot'd but I really do not want to spend the money on it. Oh hum...

 

Edit, to answer the above question, it was serviced (badly) a couple of months ago and di have a new air filter but not plugs as they are a bugger to change, inlet manifold has to come off to do the back plugs. I could do it myself and have thought about it...

Today I took the short* trip from Liverpool to Birstall in West Yorkshire to go here:

 

 

To give the blue RX8 its 6 year service. Normally I wouldn't bother with things like that but it has full service history and being serviced and given the once over by them really gives me more piece of mind than if I were to do it myself. The most painful part of the trip was the M62 this morning which at various points was at a standstill for no apparent reason.
