Thanks, but it's mostly a logistics problem. The Volvo guy will be able to do it eventually, I'll just have to leave it with him. It's just brought it home to me that I'm really not in a position to own a car and I should stop deluding myself. I think it'll be getting raffled or fragged soon anyway, with or without MOT.

Well the MGF's coolant loss issue is defo due to a corroded front-to-rear pipe.  I stuck it up on the ramps earlier, and as soon as I got my head under there I could see that the nearside pipe was soaking wet, as well as being rusty as fuck.  So I'm going to have to order a new pair of pipes for it - best option seems to be stainless, not the cheapest but a better bet long term, certainly better than buying an unknown pair of second hand pipes from a breaker.  Bit of a pisser having to spend out money on a car I'm trying to sell, but there you go.  It doesn't look like too bad of a job to change them either.  Strangely, after chucking out most of its coolant over the course of about 4 miles on Friday, I did 25 miles in it last night and the level in the expansion tank had only dropped by about 3/4 of an inch.  Odd.

The Rover's handbrake appears (touch wood) to have fixed itself.  Looks like the spray grease I aimed at the handbrake pivot the other day has finally found its mark.  I've hauled the handbrake on and off a statistically significant number of times, and each time when it's released I can quite easily turn the drum with one hand - before I was having to heave with both hands to get it to move.  As an added bonus, the bleed nipple actually came undone quite easily once I'd got the wheel off and an 11mm socket on it, so I bled the brake to be on the safe side.  The temporary* Gun Gum repair on the exhaust seems to be holding for now too, so I'll book it in for a retest and see what happens.

Also had a quick look around the Toyota, which is also due a test, and everything looks reasonably shipshape there.  The tyres are very much at the end of their lifespan, but I'm hoping they'll scrape through again seeing as it's only done 300 miles since the last test.  The rear brake pipes looked slightly corroded in places, but came up OK with a wire brush - even if I do have to replace them they only run from the flexi to the compensator valve so no major components would need to be removed.  Last year's Gun Gum still appears to be gas tight, although it's gone a bit powdery as it does - I found a tiny new blow in the exhaust (which I'm also going to have to bite the bullet and replace soon) which was soon dealt with with the application of some fresh gum, but that was about it.

Sold the CIvic!  For the first time since 1990 (Maestro auto) I actually sold a normal car to normal people using a normal advert! Chuffed!!

Not WBAC.com, not pxed, not pile of bits to another deluded sap in the owners club, not written off or scrapped but proper sold for proper paper money.

Pub tonight.

Operation rehome the trailer tent has hit a snag. Mrs CCC has decided to keep it after visiting it today. It will be coming home with me next weekend for recommissioning and sorting for next season. She seemed genuinely sad that it was going to go which surprised me. Maybe she more autoshite than I have her credit for.

Right, after listing my 5th Gen Honda Prelude on eBay yesterday, I have now discovered a power steering fluid leak.  :?

Has anyone recently seen one 5th Gen Prelude in a scrappy somewhere? I need the fluid cooler section of pipe.

Thanks.

Under floor coolant pipes, I would check the breakers as you might get lucky and find a car with stainless pipes already fitted.

Shouldn't cost much more than 20 quid 2nd hand.

My Amazon account's been hacked. 180 quids worth of drones and trainers have been ordered and the money swiped from my card. Never bought anything from there in over a year. bast

It's the U shape 'trombone' piece with fins I need. I have already asked on a Prelude forum, but apparently it's quite sort after (there's a surprise) and they want £80.

I've done almost 500 miles over the last 24 hours in the ex-Wuv Primera GT and I'm very impressed, extremely competent cars. Effortlessly fast, refined, superb handling and bloody good economy too. I've taken to it so much I've already bought it some better doors...

The ex-explosive-cabbage Pug 106 has made its first long-distance commute, and performed admirably.  At some point I'll post up in its own thread...
