Arseholes

I've no idea what they're worth but at least £300 it seems :)

It was sodding lovely this morning so I went outside to remove the hub on the Visa today to go and get a new wheelbearing pressed in.

I popped in the garage to get my 'Halfords professional' toolkit out to ensure I did a 'professional' job on it and by the time I had walked back out it had started bloody pissing down and continued to do so all day like a big bastard so I did some decorating indoors instead.

Will try and get out again on Wednesday.

Being sick of cars I started work on our new extension. I hope I got the dimensions right.

It thinks you'll only go 284 miles on a full tank of diesel?

How fucking small is the fuel tank on that?

It's a big old tank, also v8 diesel + fuel card +weights 64 tonnes +not driven sensibly = not eco friendly

I've had these shitty alloy wheels in my Mum's garden for 16 years. It's become a long standing joke that they're still there, and even my children now tease Nanny about the old shite at the end of her garden.

Anyway,I jokingly took a photo of them last weekend and promised to have them sold before my baby (9 months) learns to drive.

I posted them on a Facebook page, asking for just £7 for them so I could buy her some petrol station flowers. (!)

Fortunately, some kind souls have told me that they're worth a bit more.

A lot more.

They're on eBay as I can't figure out a price. Then again, I also can't figure out how you even say the word Hartge!

So. We'll have to wait and see how this ends. I'm just pleased to say I've finally had cause to use that phrase "Barn Find" yo.

Hart - ge is how you say it..

good tyres and centre caps = mondo dollah

Phoned the Hyundai dealer at lunchtime and they had the key number for the H100 on file, so I've ordered a new one, which should be ready on Wednesday morning.  All for a surprisingly reasonable £15.79.  I just hope it's still on its original locks - one key fits all though (apart from the tailgate which the previous owner told me he'd replaced) so should be OK.

To counter that bit of good news, on the way home I managed to get the Alfa's clutch to slip a bit by boarding it at 40 in 4th.  This is the first time it's done it - I don't know whether it had to do with crawling through rush hour traffic to get to the Hyundai dealer or not.  I've had a look online and clutches are "reassuringly expensive" (cheapest I've found is about 90 quid) and no doubt a bit of a bastard to fit, so realistically I'm looking at over 200 quid even using my friendly local garage whose labour rates are about half everyone else's.  Unfortunately this means its days are probably numbered when the MOT runs out in September - spending 200 quid, plus whatever it needs for a test, to keep a £100 car on the road is a bit daft really, and given that it's done over 200K if I did spend out on it no doubt something else would break soon afterwards.  It's a shame as I really like the car, despite it being a diesel Alfa and therefore inherently reprehensible.

As I lost my Panda thread in the great forum fire of 2016 I thought I'd make a gif to summarise progress so far.

Didn't me and Aston Martin warn you off the 100hp?  I sold mine within 3 months of ownership at a big loss just to see the back of it. :(

That seat/panda van in ebay tat for 275 has been sold. :( :(

You know at Christmas, when you go circling presents in the catalogue to leave for your nan to find?

That's me. Except the catalogue isn't the laminated book of dreams or whatever the mid 1980s equivalent was, it's the Mercedes EPC.

:D

There's something wrong with me, seriously. I get any other car, parts that have suffered from 23 years of use/wear make me sad and stressed. A Mercedes, I'm like "OMG, I can replace that and it'll be like new!"

(also HAHAHA eBay sellers, FFS. Window outer seal - secondhand, disgusting, damaged, £30. dusty "New Old Stock" rare, £55. Mercedes brand new right now, £37).

I have a list. I'm checking it twice.

Erm Yes, probably but I was operating under the principle of "it can't happen to me".  I think there are 3 issues, the first is that engine is quite tight in there so there's not a lot of space, the 2nd being price. As it was just £9995 when new loads of stuff seems to be the cheapest flimsiest shite. Cable connectors snap, bolts seem to be made of chedder etc. The third is parts and knowledge is hard to come by. Some bits you just can't seem to get without going to Fiat.  Also there's very little information about working on them out on the web, which can make working on them and diagnosing issues quite difficult.

Size of the 1.4 engine and the fact it has AC won't be doing you any favours - you can reach up the back of the diddy little 1.1 quite easily

After a certain amount of 'discussion' the KIA is away tomorrow to be serviced again. This time I shall watch avidly. (original post regarding this may have been lost in the forum fuck up, so: took car to Hyundia dealer who were helpful with bulbs, for service. Oil changed but below min on stick, oil filter not touched, air filter not touched, no levels touched and brake cleaner spilt down passenger headlight and bumper etching into plastic and causing damage.) Air filter was supposed to be changed during this service and I was charged accordingly.

Oh, and it came out with the 'check engine' light on. When it went in, no 'check engine' light....

The day is looming... tomorrow is the day I set of to deliver the Mercury NYPD 'cop car' to Purplebargeken in deepest Essex. Stage one is Lytham to Walsall, where Mrs Beard is going to be working, complete with a night in a Holiday Inn. Stage two is me driving from Walsall to Chelmsford on Thursday to deliver the Mercury. Train back from Chelmsford to London then Birmingham, meet Mrs Beard and train home. Mercury has been fully serviced, fluids checked and tyre pressures checked. Hopefully all will go to plan!

VAG SHITE, SCRAP IT.

495c11ee2093f5c6a4b2e11ce355389e.jpg

The wipers were doing my head in, switching on over bumps and sometimes seemingly at random. I thought the wiper stalk might be at fault so I replaced it with one out of a Polo saloon with a lot less wear on the contacts and it's been fine since.

Never before have I had to replace a wiper stalk or headlight switch on my rank shitters but this has needed both. VAG quality*. The airbag light illuminated upon adjusting the steering wheel for alignment but my friend's cheap eBay code reader put it out.

It looks like a shed and has some problems but it's getting me to work every day on free or very cheap fuel, so I'm keen to keep it going for as long as possible.

Saw an oddly badged mondeo yesterday as it passed me that on research seems to be a vignale. Never heard of it before, but is it replacing the ghia models?

Posted

Sort of, but the interior trim is meant to be much more flash - proper leather etc, so no legendary Ghia plastic wood!

Posted

Vignale is fords premium brand apparantly. Don't really understand it to be honest but they're much more expensive than the ford versions

Posted

is that why new fords have the same front grill as an aston martin?

so that they can use the vignale name plate, which was also an aston one?

weren't vignale originally a swiss coach builder, or did i make that up?

I won an eBay auction for a tidy-looking but pretty cheap Merc R129 SL today. Luckily reserve not met though, so I get to keep my testicles.

Those SL's are temptingly cheap. I suspect that won't be the case for long.

Vignale is indeed mega-premium on Fords (so above Titanium X) - the Mondeo Vignale starts at £30k - could get an EcoBoost Mustang for that.

Thought it was just going to be a Mondeo thing, but saw a big billboard advertising the S-Max Vignale yesterday so...

The Aston grille style Ford are going for is a result of hiring the Aston designer iirc.
