Sorry, no idea on the type of shark apart from a grey one. I have asked here but no one seems to know.

I apologise for the lack of car content on this thread at the moment, but my excuse is that the nearest car is about 150 miles away.... Today we spent waiting on weather although we have managed to return to work in the last hour. Earlier we had a visit from the SAR helicopter who wanted to borrow our back deck for a winch exercise. I suggested as they had the bait on the wire we should try and catch the shark, but I was over-ruled. (the bait can be seen next to the crane below the cabin in this picture)

Still here on day 23 of a 13 day job  

We are doing groundbreaking work here by doing underwater flange (bolted) connections on pipelines but without using divers. Obviously we predicted problems as it is a steep learning curve, but the first connection went smoothly if a little slow, a few hours more than expected. The second connection did the same, but as we were tensioning the bolts one component on the tool failed. This is the only tried and trusted component on the tool, and has been used for many years in many applications without issue. It had to be pressurised to 1350 bar, and held for 10 seconds, after which the job was done apart from tidying up. It let go at 1290 bar  

So far it has cost us 2 full days and we still have not got the tool back on deck, although we are almost ready to lift, but the weather has now come up and will stop the lifting operations. Predicted end date is now Saturday evening, I think this is optimistic!

As a little light relief, they moved the drill rig the other day

Still here, still fixing broken bits, still hoping it will all be over soon!   I have been busy looking up sources for parts for the next 3 projects but cannot order anything as I need to check part numbers and the old bits are a long way away!

Today, one of the crew had to go home in a hurry, so we had a paraffin budgie on deck. Whilst we are fully equiped for these occasions, it is actually a rare event as crew changes are planned around port calls, and any emergency parts tend to be taken to the platform by either supply boat or chopper depending on urgency them craned onboard. Apologies for the rubbish photos, but taken as screen grabs from the vessel system.

The last day was a bit of a grueller, with a 32 hour shift to end it off. Still home now.

Yesterday was a write off as I kept falling asleep on the sofa and waking to a cold coffee!

Today has been hectic. First, this can only mean one thing.

Yes, tomorrow is a kollekshun day. The first of three I have organised today  Tomorrows is local - only about 90 miles away.

The second is next week, and is further affield at 320 miles away and will involve trains, overnighting and a drive back in a car I have not seen and has a reputation of being probably the most unreliable car on the road.  The third will probably be next month and is a non runner in France.

Thatwas nice - a day that went to plan  

First stop was my friends in Perth where the doors were aligned and the front wings fitted to my Disco 1 so that is now ready to go for paint.

With that done, more tea was drunk then off to rainy Fife to meet up with @The Moog where he very kindly let me take his BMW i3 I think it is for a drive. I have to say for a modern, never mind an electric, it was very impressive. 

With that done, the purchase was loaded 

And back home I went, and apart from heavy Friday evening traffic in Dundee it was a pleasant run.

Curlew is an oil field in the central north sea, UK sector, roughly in line with Tyneside.

Took the AX for a first drive yesterday and overall pretty good. The ride is very crashy as expected as it has lowering springs on the front. Went past my tame Citroen fondler who gave it the once over. The lowered springs have been fitted because new standard diesel ones seem to be NLA, and my friend noted that they are causing problems, with a CV boot having become detached and more worryingly, the brake pipe clears the driveshaft by about 1mm, and shows sign of being in contact from time to time. He thinks diesel 106 springs should fit, so going to look into that, but it is being relegated to emergency transport mode until the brake pipe is away from danger.

On  the motorway heading to collect the AX,  I had a bit of a moment when a lorry pulled into the second lane in front of me requiring an emergency brake, at which the trailer showed its lack of brakes by pushing the hyundai sideways across the road! Eek. So today I decided to have a look see what is going on

Wheels off, I could not get the hub nuts to move, apparently they should be torqued to 260lb ft and as these have been untouched since new 14 years ago, they were F tight! Whent to see a friend and borrowed his 3/4 drive socket set which had a 46mm socket. That and a scaffold pole got them moving, although considerable effort was required. With those off, the drums were easily removed. Inside, everything seemed to be free and moving but I have never seen 4 sets of shoes with zero friction material left!

In addition, the cables are seized so I have ordered a complete overhaul kit. Probably overkill, but at £265 delivered it should provide another 14 years service.

I doubt it wore away.. more likely the shoes rusted and the friction material fell off, only to be munched up by the drums and then ejected as dust.  Seen it many times on trailer brakes.

New brake cables, shoes etc arrived late this afternoon so will get on with that on my return.

Tommorrow I head sarf on my second collection in a week so thought I would document it here for anyone desperate enough to need a distraction
