Thank you, the Lancia is a bit rare never been or needed welding! The Spitfire belongs to a friend who recently lost a leg so I am keeping it up and running until he can drive it again. He is already driving manual cars, but access in and out of the Spit is difficult for him at the moment.

Fairly sure it is air getting into the system near the tank so should not be hard to diagnose.

Quick update on the camper. A new old stock mechanical fuel pump arrived on Friday so down to Perth yesterday to fit it. Fuel supply still seemed a bit erratic and took a while to start. Got it jacked up and 95% of the fuel line is hard plastic with short lengths of rubber at either end. The ones under the bonnet were new, the one from the tank was not, was rotten and fell to bits when touched! A new length of pipe fitted saw a strong supply return. Took it to lunch with my mate, a 40 mile return trip and it behaved perfectly. I am calling that fixed.....

Yesterday I emptied the camper of extras I won’t be using like the awning etc cleaned the inside and sorted the gas system so brews can be had. Got the Saab 900 vert and trailer out of the shed and checked fluids etc.

This morning left at 0730 for the Glamis show. Got about 3 miles running fine then it wasn’t 😞 totally dead. Won’t start on brake cleaner so must be electrical. Cannot be bothered a) waiting hours for the AA or b) walking home for Disco and trailer so went for option c) spoil my mates breakfast and get him to give me a tow home!  Should be here soon 😀

Back home, so certainly the quickest of the 3 options!

I am not good with electrics but think I have a start on the problem. Turn the ignition on and the ignition lights (oil, battery etc) come on and then go straight off.  The rev counter still works etc, so it is not the switch, so I am thinking a relay somewhere has failed. Cup of tea, get changed and then start playing parts darts with the spares car!

Well the FTP on the Saab appears to have been due to failure of the factory alarm/immobiliser. It will have to go to my electronic guru to be fixed.

The other day I took my Rover P5b to Perth so I could collect the camper. It ran perfectly going down then refused to start once there. I ordered new points and condenser and this morning fitted them. This resulted in running but poppingcc by and backfiring when revved. After much head scratching and guessing we eventually found the clip on the rotor arm was worn allowing it to turn when revved. A bit of skilled bodgery had the clip repaired and normal running resumed.

I am currently in the Yorkshire Dales on part one of a two part collection mission. This weekend I am collecting the parts, spares and special tools. I had planned on putting them in the Disco but was informed there are too many so a large van is required. This should be large enough

That is collection part 1 completed, just need to return the van tomorrow. It took 3 of us a couple of hours to load the van, it was a good job I got the biggest one available

IMG_15351.JPG.1c4669b753d8fcc7caa20935f8262a6c.JPG

Between the bulkhead to the rear of the rear wheel arches there was a full layer of engines and gearboxes

IMG_15381.JPG.f90aa27cc0dbe997929ffdab2442001b.JPG

Today, myself and my trusty Kubota emptied the van and stored it in one corner of my shed. It took me 4.5 hours.

IMG_15491.JPG.2a897d70632450d64534a7a8f5152206.JPG

The final tally was 12 engines and 11 gearboxes plus many many boxes of parts, including a lot of NOS parts still in the original SAAB packaging. The icing on the cake being a large very heavy plastic crate of orinal, factory special tools, along with another crate of factory manuals. Apparently the owner in the late 80s went to the Saab dealership in Oxford and cleared the shelves of 2 stroke parts. I even have the magnetic shelf identifiers for the parts.

It is a good job VOSA were on holiday yesterday as I was obviously well over the load limit, although I had no idea by how much as 3 of us loaded the van. The seller did ask if I needed some more air in the van tyres though! :-)

Having driven 320 miles down, loaded the van and driven back, followed by today unloading several tonnes of bits, I have come to a conclusion. I am getting too old for this shit! That resolution will, I know, last until I am offered the next one.

This weekend is Saabfest at Prescott Hill Climb so I am heading down in the morning. I shall be pausing in the Yorkshire Dales to collect the body that all the spares belong to and then taking it down as it is so rare. As I am getting too old for camping, I am using the Sherpa as a tow car. The fact the collection was its first journey in 2 years, completed on the yellow taxi of shame (twice!) and has hopefully been repaired but is untested can safely be ignored. Watch this space....

Ribblehead viaduct is to the left behind the hill about half a mile away. Will load up tonight and head for Prescott tomorrow

Ugh, fucking ribble head!

I went there once with my dad. We'd been at a concert the night before and then took my stepmum and stepsister to some sewing exhibition oop North. Dumped them off and dad drove to ribblehead and we parked up in the train station car park to admire the view, see some trains and fall asleep for several hours. After checking all the car park signage to be sure we could be there (on a Sunday)

Not 45 minutes later, this very cunt had ridden his electric wheelchair right up the massive steep hill to the car park which only had us in it, parked up with radio 4 on and dad's blue badge showing

https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/16592094.three-peaks-charity-walkers-making-lives-misery-say-residents/

Came up to the car and demanded to know why we were there, we shouldn't be there, people like us don't belong here etc. Once we worked out wtf was going on and dad had woken up he had to stop me from picking the prick up out of his wheelchair and throwing him back down the hill. I've never heard my dad swear like that as we drove off and found somewhere else to have a kip

Driving home later I had to pull over for a coffee as missing nap time became a problem 7 hours later.

It's put me off going there again

I’m trying to remember what engine is in the Sherpa. Is it a 1800 b series? It must make progress very ……. leisurely

They went quite well for the standards of the time, although the B series diesel perhaps slightly less so...

I was more wondering what an extra 1 1/2 tonnes hanging off the back would do to the ‘performance’

Had intended to be at SaabFest @Saabnut but sadly my parents who we were going to stop with and who were going to perform babysitting duties are unwell.  After 6 1/2 hours in the car back from Dorset yesterday I don’t think the kids will cope with another 6 hour round trip sadly!

That’s a shame would have been good to catch up again.

Yes it is basically a detuned MGB engine with single carb, the empty trailer slows it down on hills 😀. The 95 is very solid and a very viable project.
