Sheefag Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 My HiAce falls foul of this. Rather like the Congestion Charge, I'll charge customers individually for this and hopefully turn a profit.
angle Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 The T-charge definitely falls in to the category of being seen to do something, rather than actually doing something - even TfL accept it'll make less than a 1% difference in NOx emissions from transport. This is mostly because to get something done quickly it has to use the existing congestion charge legislation rather than introduce new law - which is why it only covers a small bit of central London, during the day. Crucially, it also means taxis and minicabs are exempt and residents get a 90% discount (they're hard up, after all), which along with the fact that it only needs diesels to meet Euro 4 and not Euro 6 like the ULEZ, is why it's doing bugger all. TfL still reckon there's 10,000 cars a day in the zone that don't meet the standards though... Uncle Jimmy and uk_senator 2
UltraWomble Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I don't understand why. BenI dont think we are meant to understand - just comply unthinkingly
danthecapriman Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 The checker at https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/lez-lez-vehicle-checker-35896 says that both my 1990 BMW325is and my daughter's 2005 Fiat Punto 1.2 are exempt: "No charge due for this vehicleThis vehicle either meets the required emission standards, is exempt from the scheme or is subject to a 100% discount."I don't understand why.BenI've just checked all my cars and every one of them is exempt! The Mercury and possibly Capri I can understand due to their old age but the Transit (1984) and Volvo (1988) I would have thought would be subject to the charge but it seems not according to the website.
scaryoldcortina Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Projected 0.5% reduction in NOx but £25,000,000 in charges for the first year alone. Is there a slow clap smilie? uk_senator, Lacquer Peel, NorfolkNWeigh and 5 others 8

The LEZ isn't the T-charge, try this: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/emissions-surcharge/emissions-surcharge-checker
quicksilver Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 That T charge checker does some odd things if you put in a registration it doesn't recognise. Instead of throwing up an error it defaults to saying the vehicle is Euro 4 compliant and exempt. It's not getting the make and model for the Renault 6 but telling me it is Euro 4, which somehow I don't think is entirely true. Then again it should be exempt at the moment as it produces no emissions at all on account of not having a working engine RobT, mat_the_cat and Six-cylinder 3
danthecapriman Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Ah, I went to the link in SiC's post and only found one checker there.ThanksBenI did the same! Doh! Mercury - exemptCapri - exemptTransit - chargeable Volvo - chargeable Typically however for the Uk government and their utterly retarded backwards logic the Capri and Transit have the same engine. One allowed one not! Fucking idiots!
dougiefourspeed Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Its worth checking your specific car though, I had just assumed that all my cars aside from the one year old Golf would be chargeable but it turns out not to be the case.
beko1987 Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Both the gooner and zafira are non chargeable Damn, I need to sort my fucking fleet out, can't have this! Good old Xantia would have been chargeable, and I'd have put my £10 worth of smoke into the air! Like others though, fuck london! Closest I've ever been was driving into Hayes to pick up a hoover once, and that was scary enough
Junkman Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Similar schemes, which have been in place throughout the EU for quite some time and where often, like e.g. in Germany, older cars not retrofitted with emission cleaning devices are outright banned from entering LEZs, have done nothing to improve air quality, which is not surprising when considering that newer cars emit to their heart's content once they are outside a test lab, thanks to the criminal activities of the car industry. May I remind you clowns that whether your car is exempt from a charge or not makes fuck all difference to the air quality in conurbations? The only thing that makes a difference is whether you drive it there or not. SiC Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 My MGB is exempt. I guess their exemption doesn't necessarily apply to pre-1973, but actually historic tax class vehicles.
alcyonecorporation Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 My HiAce falls foul of this. Rather like the Congestion Charge, I'll charge customers individually for this and hopefully turn a profit. You just need to work harder. loserone, Richard and Lacquer Peel 3
angle Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 It's worth saying that the checker isn't the be all and end all - if the emissions printed on your V5 are within Euro 4 limits then you can email TfL with proof and get them to register your car as exempt. Last time I was in their offices someone had left a huge stack of emails from Merc E240 drivers by the printer, and it reckons that my (December 2005) registered Laguna V6 is chargeable, when one registered a month later isn't... alcyonecorporation 1
Dick Cheeseburger Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 At least the air will be clean with all the dirty old bangers removed from the equation. alcyonecorporation and forddeliveryboy 2
Uncle Jimmy Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 the Transit (1984) and Volvo (1988) I would have thought would be subject to the charge but it seems not according to the website.1988? anonymous user Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Should I ever need to drive in London again I shall be more than happy to pay an extra £10 if it stops my Land Rover polluting the atmosphere alcyonecorporation, danthecapriman, Uncle Jimmy and 1 other 4
alcyonecorporation Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Maybe they could spend it on the public transport system, hey.
purplebargeken Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 If you have a blue badge your vehicle is 100% exempt from the C charge and by default, the T charge also. Irrespective of what you drive. eddyramrod 1
SgtWilson Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 MZ 250. 30 years old and smokes like a bandit if its cold, or if I've cocked the premix ratio up. Apparently meets the Euro 4 standard - which I'm sure was on Walter Kaaden's mind when he designed the motor back in the 1950s. forddeliveryboy 1
Junkman Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I shall acquire the required amount of mongtardeness without any any further ado then. purplebargeken 1
Supernaut Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I shall acquire the required amount of mongtardeness without any any further ado then. Breathing the polluted air in London for about 10 minutes should achieve that quite nicely. Be quick though, because the T charge is going to clean it all up overnight! alcyonecorporation and Junkman 2
Yoss Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Ive just put my fleet in their checker. Both Skodas, even the 25 year old one have to pay. The Triumph, as expected is exempt because it's old but so laughably is my RM with it's smoky old Leyland engine. So I can just go up and drive it around around central London all day. That should help the atmosphere. This is possibly because they have absolutely no idea what it is. When I put the reg in it came back with the vehicle details 'red'. That was it, that one word. lisbon_road Posted October 23, 2017 Author Posted October 23, 2017 Bear in mind that some of this data on the improvements the legislation will produce will be based on the published data, which we all know is highly dubious. The BBC article particularly proves that - it says in the article that the particulate data 'hadn't come back yet'. I wonder if it has come back now?
Bren Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Audi is nish.Vectra is £10. Any car that you own that you are thinking of selling on and is not chargeable needs putting in the ad.As you were.
Six-cylinder Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Those visiting me will be glad to hear my 1958 diesel tractor has become Euro 4 compliant! Yoss, strangeangel, Lacquer Peel and 4 others 7
mercrocker Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 OCR358Black MORRIS COWLEY "Thank you for using the T-Charge checker. Your vehicle is not subject to the T-Charge.Your vehicle meets at least the Euro 4 / IV standard (Euro 3 if you are a motorised tricycle or quadricycle). " No it fucking doesn't, its just exempt on an arbitrary cut-off date. I have to pay to take my 190E in which is a LOT cleaner. Well I would if I want to go there again. Verdict - Bollocks. Fuck all to do with pollution. strangeangel, RobT and Yoss 3
Adrian_pt Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 1988? Wonderful; I can drive the Benz over to Tarquin and Esmereldas pad in Knightsbridge for champers and blow at yuletide after all. You'll be fine - Knightsbridge is outside the zone. There are realistically very few reasons to be driving inside the CCZ in a private car, during charging hours. Practically none of it is residential and the streets are so clogged up you would have to be fairly masochistic (not that we aren't) to go there. Big story would be if they choose to extend the zone.... Lacquer Peel and RobT 2
richardmorris Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 All mine are chargeable but as I don't drive in London ( last time was Citroen uk 50th anniversary ) I'm not too bothered. From home to central London on train and tube is £23 ish. How people do this daily I don't know. When I do have to go in I can get it back but it's not cheap for a 20mile journey.
