Big fan of diesely rovers, especially ones with a bit of fettling.

Alfa has made it as far as Portishead. It's a tad thirsty and could really do with a 7th gear, but bugger me does that engine sound gorgeous when you put your toe down. Amazingly flexible too for such a highly strung engine - it was pulling uphill from 1200rpm in 5th with no fuss at all.

Good to see you both and to have a steer of the 19, which seems like a thoroughly pleasant way to trundle around.

you are all a bunch of perverts all this wife car swapping!

I'm now home and the Jag drove very well. Two very different journeys today , 1.4 Renner versus 3.2 XJ6, but both had their merits.

Good to talk shite as always, and to have a go in the Rover 45 of Doom (despite my inability to cope with the short-shift gearing...)

A++ SWOPPING. WUD DO AGAIN.

Been dailying the stealth 45. I’ve added an AA badge and put it back on its original 15 inch alloys for maximum stealth effect

How quick is it? I was seriously tempted when wuvvum put it up for sale but couldn't make the sums and distance work.

Loving that.

Folded tartan rug and a trilby on the parcel shelf for the giffer win.

With the 17s fitted it hits the rev limiter in 5th at a true 126mph.  Allegedly.

Off the line acceleration isn't that spectacular as it takes a little while to spool up (best 0-60 run I managed was 9 sec, although theoretically it should be slightly quicker with the 15s) but it's pretty good at overtaking.

west midlands plod used 220d bubble rovers to good effect- bloke i used to work with had one as well which went well when prodded!

The 220DI was one of the quickest diesel hatchbacks of its time, they'd leave a 306 DTurbo or Golf TDI for dead.

I thought I’d thumb through the vast Wodge of receipts, I’ll post a few up when I get chance. Most cautionary are the two gearbox rebuilds, the later rebuild with metal caged bearings for the PG1 box, and junking a Quaife LSD for the Torsen one from a 620TI, I wonder if similar such concoctions used to lurk around the Longbridge site?

Early 90s Renault wheel trims look a lot like pound shop specials. I’ve come to this conclusion after looking around for some for the Renault 19. None of them ever have the Renault badge but look fussy and a bit crap. The GTS-x originally had “alize” 13” trims- which are unobtanium pound shop-a-likes. I ended up with some 13” “Madrid” trims that came on clio mk1s and early meganes. Soz for bad pic.

Good choice of period trim.  That looks much smarter now.  I agree on the OE Alize ones, not worth bothering with.  I did search eBay.fr briefly but found nowt.

Change In living accommodation and life means the rover 45 will be my sole transport and I’m moving the Renault 19 and Xantia on.

I’ll post up pics in a sec-

1997 Xantia 1.9d temptation/ mot 10 months. Runs and drives fine, suspension work as it should. Recent cambelt, spheres all round. Quite tidy but lacquer crazed on boot lid and thin on the leading edge of the bonnet. Passenger side rear door lock doesn’t lock on the central locking. Bit of grot on the offside sill which passed the mot fine but will need a patch at some point. The accelerator feels like it’s a bit sticky in its travel occasionally but very minor. Lots of receipts and history. £175

1991 Renault 19 gts-x / mot April. Very tidy body, remote central locking (only on front doors) sunroof sealed due to leak, snazzy interior trim. 1.4 “energy” carb fed / 5 speed with no PAS. Occasional minor hesitation on part throttle. Boot opens from inside. Sexy fog lamps, new front tyres. £175

Located Tavistock.

Ohh go on then, I’ll take the Xant!
