TBF the Fonz was *superannuated 😯

🚙💨

The Fonz wasn’t supposed to be a schoolboy though. Watching it these days, he looks far from cool, rather a sad case hanging about with school kids.

The 820 has been doing its thing of being a comfy cruiser….

Greased the suspension on the black minor and sorted the squeally fan belt. The white minor has had another flush of the cooling system (it was pretty choked up and is a lot better now) The heater is now quite hot which seems to show its a lot happier that it was.

I couldnt resist going to look a a little ‘68 morris for sale up the road in a small village. Yes i have a disease. Anyway, said little morris represented the opposite of my personal old car philosophy.

IMG_0525.jpeg.827c1b50ae14e640771a7d142087fbff.jpeg

Shiny respray erasing all patina and sadly filled with poor repairs to the structure and various bits of bodging. Wierdly someone had recently spent a fortune retrimming it as well.

I drove away making my apologies in my decent but battle scarred ‘62 with threadbare seats

At the risk of a slight hijack I've never taken my t2 for a respray in 30 years. It is bizarrely shiny almost all over, as I've had multiple panels replaced and all have been painted as and when.

It's amazing just how many 'restored' cars are out there that are proper bodgefests. Poorly repaired then sold to some unknowing sod for, sometimes, a great deal of money.

I visited a small dealers recently who shall remain nameless. Lovely people, lovely stock but all of it resprayed overpriced isopon machines. And loads of folk in browsing and buying.

I came to the conclusion that it doesnt really matter. The dealer turns a good profit, the buyer has something in the double garage to show thier mates at dinner parties, everyones happy.  Most of the tarted up stuff will never see the road in any meaningful way anyway. And it leaves the tatty but honest stuff for the rest of us.

Went for a bike ride today and took the black morris out. Because folding bike and folding passenger seat it fitted in nicely.

I took a few more pics of the ruined paint. Id cut and polish the fine scratches all over it but its quite thin as it is so probably best avoided.

Well, its here. Sills can castle rails and whole underside solid and seems unwelded. Its periodness (plates, colour, no wood to be seen etc) was a strong pull. and the slight tattiness and bumpedness made it quite a good price. (also comes with a new replacement door)

Looks to have had a recent service and drives as it should.  Very happy with it.

I hope it didn't shock the 'sheltered' garden.

I can see you and @Peter C swapping notes, for a while. Enjoy.

Looks like that would scrub up well enough with a bit of effort.  Looks like a good chunk of that dent would push/pull out of the rear quarter.

No overdrive on that one or is the switch just MIA?

Bet those twin carbs and pancake filters make for a nice noise when you put your foot down.

You now need to grow a beard, start drinking real ale, take up paragliding and change you name to Malcolm*. 😂

* The value of clichés can go down as  well as up, and past humour is not a reliable indicator of future laughs.

You've done really well if it's solid underneath.

It took me over 2 years to find someone who'd replace the sills on mine and the final bill was £5k plus; others wanted more as apparently it's a nightmare of a job to get the doorshuts right. Logically it wasn't worth it but spread over the 50 years I've had it it wasn't much per year and was worth it for maintaining the memories.

Mine is one of the very last of the chrome bumpers, I didn't like the RB ones, and has the switch for O/D 3rd and 4th on the extreme right of the dash.
