eddyramrod Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Well I know which one I'd rather drive. One white RR, I would pay my own money to have outside the house. The other, even Jimmy Carr hasn't got enough to pay me to be seen in the same town!
grogee Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Who the fuck was buying Rolls Royces in Huddersfield (apart from Sir Jimmy Savile of course)? You are now Tavistock's enemy no. 1 @HMC. They won't know what to do with themselves when they see that. Probably curtsy and wet themselves simultaneously HMC and DeanH 1 1

Popular Post HMC Posted January 6, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted January 6, 2024 When i got my s class, it would be on its bumpstops after about a couple of hours and do a lowrider impression, along with the airmatic red warning message of doom on the dash. Usually people run a mile but as said s class was cheap enough, I thought- why not, its only air finding a way out somwhere? It looked cool but basically valves should maintain the ride height when the car is not being used so something was amiss. Despite my limited skills I decided that fixing borked merc air suspension was something i should have a go at. The compressor also made a very loud noise as well so i decided to jack/axle stand it and have a look… So the noise was certainly from the sprung rubber bushings being replaced with cable ties, which were basically clamping the compressor to the bodywork, acting like a sounding board;hence the noise. As it was VERY noisy i couldnt rule out the compressor itself (which had been replaced at some stage already) being on its last legs. Very much so as it was working overtime to counter the deflating suspension. I also thought there might be an issue with the valve block (sat above the compressor) as the whole car sank, rather than one end or corner which might otherwise suggest a local rather than control system pressure loss. I was working on a few assumptions but decided a second hand valve block and compressor would target a few issues at once. £80 quid later i had the sub assembly ready to go. This lives under the OSF wheel arch…. Being methodical i marked up all air lines… And swapped it all over piece by piece. And before long the spaghetti was all back where it should be.. And with crossed fingers I started it up, the properly isolated compressor was silently doing its job. Or was it? Being so used to the racket i was worried it was inoperative! but once the totally depressurised system was pumped back up , no longer do i have a low rider on its bump stops after a few hours parked, and its working perfectly, Result! Schaefft Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 Excellent work, air suspension systems usually aren't that complicated and with W220 being in the price range now where every second example is ending up in the breaker's yard parts will be cheap as well. The ABC system on the other hand...Great to see this one being an easy fix, let's hope it'll stay nice and level now. HMC and Rust Collector 2
bunglebus Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 At least with the ABC system you get to make the car dance after doing any suspension work on them

EyesWeldedShut Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 You can setup a black market now - when I was a kid there was one lot of folks collected those, the other lot Green Shield Stamps. wuvvum Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 When I was a kid the available car was a Vauxhall Nova 1.2 Merit 2-door saloon. I wonder if anyone actually managed to "buy" a car using Green Shield stamps. HMC and lesapandre 2

HMC Posted January 8, 2024 Author Posted January 8, 2024 This shad appears to have originally been a dark gold colour , and as it fell from grace it inevitably ended up white. Like a twat I lost one, then the other, and I still pine for a set now. They were really sturdy and heavy and I liked the asymmetrical yellow/white arrangement. They'd have been the bollocks on my Mini 1275GT but I'd lost them by then. Arses. lesapandre 1
