brownnova Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Part two of the replacement for the modern is being collected tonight! Not a very long collection, but it will lead me to my new piece of shite for commuting purposes because commuting in mrs_brownnova's KA was ruining my street cred and giving me backache. So what am I getting? It's got headlight wipers (a personal ambition of mine).... Comfy seats.... A big boot.... I've wanted one since the mid 90s.... ...and it isn't a Volvo. Place your bets! Sheefag Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 I went from an 850T5 with a T5R turbo to an LPT 9000 and it wasn't anything like the gap in performance that I expected.A great, great car once I got used to the driving position, The clutch was one heavy bastard, mind.
brownnova Posted September 13, 2017 Author Posted September 13, 2017 So the story goes like this.... As a child in the early 90s I was very into my cars, with a particular fondness for executive motors. But the more offbeat ones like the XM, Safrane and of course the 9000... Fast forward 20 years and now as a young ish management type the lure of shiny new BMWs had worn thin. And a new car was needed. I decided that it was time to get something ìd always lusted after. A 90s executive barge. The search was conducted, first one to view was a 9000, then an e34 5 series, a Rover 75, and even a Volvo C70 we're looked at... but I kept coming be k to the 9000 I had looked at first. Thankfully the classified as was still there, so I made arrangements with the seller and got it bought. It's a lovely late 9000 CSE. Done a fair bit of mileage. But it's in superb condition, particularly body wise. Not a spot of rust anywhere. Genuinely feels like a car that's done half the mileage. Everything seems to work, and it drives beautiful. Got it home and found the service book. Every service stamped, with all but the last two stamped at the dealer it was bought from... a good sign I hope. I bought it from a Saab specialist who had recommissioned it after it had stood for a bit. I'm genuinely really chuffed with It! It's not perfect... A few minor things to do... particularly source a replacement wiper for the near side headlight which is missing.... So here's hoping it's a good'un and will serve me well... until I need to scratch another itch... Brodders, Heidel_Kakao, worldofceri and 8 others 11

wuvvum Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 I had an L-plate LPT in that colour as my daily for quite a while about 10 years back. Brilliant cars. Shep Shepherd 1
RoadworkUK Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 My 9000 CSE UNturbo Auto was that colour. Now, that was slow. Still loved it.
Exiled_Tat_Gatherer Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 I'm a recent convert to the SAAB fold after wanting one or ages....... I've got the 9-3 lpt and I (and my son) absolutely love it...... It's got a few knocks and rattles started recently which mean bushes need doing - but I'm totally sold on it.Yours looks fantastic in that colour too.... mine sadly, is the repmobile silver we all know and love*. Shep Shepherd 1
Shep Shepherd Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 What a superb car. And a great guess! brownnova 1
Mr A Lawrence Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 I worked in a Saab dealership in Leeds in the early 90's as a service driver, picking customers cars up for service and/or warranty work. Drove some nice examples even brought a 9000 carlsson up from Birmingham which was interesting!! Only thing I saw though was quite a few had omghgf.
forddeliveryboy Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Oh, that's very likely a hugely sensible purchase. I was often surprised by their economy, for something so fleet of foot and comfy. Great shame Saab were killed off, of all the smaller makers through the 70s,80s and 90s I think they had the most to offer. Interesting these were regarded as offbeat, I remember a friend's Dad getting one of the first 9000s after a succession of 900s, it seemed like Saab had gone very normal. But the quality of those air vents was quite something in 1985, and the seats were still streets ahead of others. There were many fewer rattles, a very classy, massive interior space and the way the speedo needle shot past 100 was highly unconventional. Uncle Jimmy and Shep Shepherd 2
gadgetgricey Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 You need to get yourself over to UK Saabs as there are multiple bods who can do remaps for the 9000 very cheaply.Just have to send the ECU off for a few days. Dependant on engine size and turbo, dicates what the increase would be. Owned one of those in that colour a few years ago, it was gorgous. Even had the Saab installed preheater.Always regret selling that car... Yours looks awesome. Sure you will enjoy it. Cheers brownnova 1
