2nd 93 Mondy collection due Thursday...

I have spoken to the old boy (79 years old, retiring from driving) and this is another one for me. A freaking 1.6 GLX with pumice trim, he's had it since new.

Can a trusted shiter please:

  • Go to South Wimbledon and give him £300 (I will bank transfer to you) and do the V5 in my name
  • Use it for a few weeks
  • I will tax and insure when you collect (will do tax online from V5C)
  • I will collect it from you once I have moved on the Skoda Favorit

Thanks in advance as normal folks...

I know.

I'm trying to work out how to get away from work one day this week to go get it, as evenings aren't easy for me.

Mrs egg will be in despair (she could barely contain her glee when I said the Skoda was moving on lol)

This is my 95% perfect spec though. Early cars with black top rather than colour coded bumpers are the ones for me.

Oooo, not normally a Ford man myself but I bet the (assuming here) velour seats are lovely. And that is a great colour.

If I had room I'd be offering help for this, but there isn't any and I don't really want to leave your lovely Mondeo out in the road opposite a junction. How quickly does it have to be gone?

It's 'alberto green' the colour. It's the only colour you could have the light coloured pumice trim/dash with on the GLX (at least at launch).

I've haven't confirmed with the guy I'll take it, as he was just off out. I'm out myself this afternoon at the Kent meet, but I'll think about it some more while I'm driving my current Mondy :-)

If someone takes in in the interim, well so be it.  The market for the 1.6's is very small. Just me really!

Bucketeer Collection Services could take this task on but it wouldn't be until the 1st or 2nd of August, when our operative is back in the country.

I'm sure you'll get a better offer but it's there if you need it.

Thanks, only on here would a chap in Bulgaria offer to pick up a 24 year old car for you :-)

Doesn't that happen everywhere then?

It would be stored on a drive near Gatwick or on a hard standing in Camberley. Or I could bring it to you for the train/bus/mule fare back.

I've got to fetch the Volvo bumpers I've just won from Pinner to Tonbridge so if you want we could go fetch it all back here. Car would have to be left on road in cul-de-sac outside my house though so would need to be street legal.

Thanks, yes - it would be fully legal - I'd tax online once the V5 is in 'our' hands, and would add to my Direct Line insurance for a month (if they don't think I'm a trader like they did last time).

I'm heading out shortly, but will PM later if I defo decide to do it. I don't have internet on the move.

I'm sure my dad or someone could run me over to Tonbridge.

I can't get over to Wimbledon but I do have parking space behind locked gates in a communal car park. Da110eg if you want to street view it.

Cheers rusty, I sometimes work at Gravesend civic centre too.

I just want to have a good in it as I have the horn for mk1s at the moment. Looks great, though 1.6 is a bit smalll IMO.

What a buy! I went to look at an identical one years ago, it had a caramac interior. I loved it. The slipping clutch put me off at the time though.

1.6 is a really rare one though, smooth motor but a bit lacking in the oomph.

I'd love to find a 1.6 Aspen with the deleted Rev Counter.

I remember us having to catch a ferry from bloody Stranraer in a 1.6 salon. Fucking hell I must have strangled every last ounce of grunt out of it over 6 hours.

I've a soft spot for these too. Looking forward to seeing it soon.

1.6 is why I really want it. Even it goes pop soon it will be a useful spares car for my blue one.

Ever reliable* Howmanyleft says only 23 1.6 GLX's left.

Thanks all for the usual encouragement and offers of help.

I'll sit down at my 'workstation' tomorrow see how my work week looks to see if I can get up there this week. I might be able to do it on Wednesday. We'll see.

Will update.

I could probably collect it for you one evening this week and store at home (near jcn 6 M25) until you can collect.

I always thought the GLX was bafflingly unattractive. The LX somehow looked sportier, the Si and Ghia were obz horny with their respective five spokes.

The GLX, though, with its swirly wheel trims... somehow had Older Driver written all over it from the start.

I've messaged the guy I've won the bumpers from to see if Wednesday is cool for him, so could give you a lift if you need one.

I'm late to this, but happy to help if required.  It'd have to live on the road, but apart from the Jag being biffed a few days ago it's normally a safe place to park.

One day you'll be able to say to your kids, yeah but back in the day you could give £300 to a stranger on the internet you've never met before and they'd go and buy a car for you, drive it home and look after it for a few weeks.

On any other forum that might seem like a strange concept.

Totally get the 'unique spec' thing here.  A 405 has to be a 2.0 automatic with cruise to interest me, then I can't resist it.

I can do all of the above if you're still looking, no probs.

Cheers folks, and sorry for radio silence today, life and work getting in the way!

Thanks for ongoing offers of help. I hope to get to a work meeting in Chatham tomorrow morning and then have some head space again to get back to you.

I'm on the case with Favorit disposal too, a chap from Wales wants it - and no, not the 'beard from Wales' :-). This guy has 3 of the other remaining silverline spec.

Wonder if it's the bloke I bought a Felicia interior from a few years ago

Looks like you've got several offers already, but hereby throwing my hat in the ring. I'm in Catford, not far from the South Circular, and could park it on the side road next to my house. Can throw in the owner's manual from my scrapped '96 diesel if it's any use to you. Also got a HBOL knocking about, which is diesel specific.

Hello all.

Right, I'm actually venturing out of Kent and have agreed to inspect/collect on Thursday. I'm getting the train/tube and hopefully bringing it back with me. I spoke to the old gents son today all seems good.

I'll be playing cambelt roulette for the drive home, but hey, what do you expect for £300 :-).

I have autoaid cover!

There'll be no live updates, because my tech is stone age. Fingers crossed eh?

(Thanks to everyone for offers of help)
